why didn't dr.gero know about ssj?
Re: why didn't dr.gero know about ssj?
I can some what understand him finalizing his designs for the androids and not using more data since he can't just keep working on them forever. However I don't see why he would stop spying on Goku. Why not just keep a eye on him and know exactly what you're going up against when the time comes.

Oh, you think the Grand Tour is your ally, you merely stepped into the Grand Tour. I was born in it, moulded by it. I didn’t see the Super until I was already a man; by then, it was nothing to me but blinding!
Re: why didn't dr.gero know about ssj?
There is nothing showing us that they would be able to handle the Future androids, so I don't agree. For all we know, if the androids were exactly like the ones in the Future, the androids might have more trouble defeating the gang than they did but they would still defeat them.Speedster wrote:Not quite true. In the original timeline the Androids were weaker. The advantage due to Goku’s increase in power in the main timeline during the 3 years of training after Trunks’ warning was nullified by the increase in power of the main timeline Androids due to the time ripples.
In any case, that's besides the point. The point is that without SSJ and Trunks' warning, Goku (even if he didn't have his heart decease) and the gang wouldn't even be able to defeat #19 and #20. And those two factors were things that Gero didn't know. So, Gero's calculations were accurate, his androids would have been more than enough... if it wasn't for those two factors that he couldn't predict.
Re: why didn't dr.gero know about ssj?
Well we have Adult Gohan saying that his father before his death was still stronger than himself in the future timeline and Adult Gohan was able to put up a good fight against the Androids who could only defeat him in 2vs1. And same goes for Future Trunks. Main timeline SSJ Goku and SSJ Vegeta who prepared for 3 years could well be on par with the Future Androids and take on one each like in movie 7 with the other Androids. Plus they could have help from the rest of the gang including SSJ Trunks tipping the balance in their favour (assuming letting their pride aside).rereboy wrote:There is nothing showing us that they would be able to handle the Future androids, so I don't agree. I referred to the relative strength differences which were kept the same due to the time ripples. Without the time ripples the resulting situation would be main timeline Goku versus Future Androids. Instead, Goku’s intense 3 year training didn’t result to him closing the relative gap with the Androids at all. Future Goku was say 1.4x weaker than the Future Androids, main timeline Goku was still 1.4x weaker than the main timeline Androids despite Goku likely increasing his power level by 1.4x relative to the orginal timeline (like Future SSJ Goku=180M, Future Androids=250M, main SSJ Goku=250M, main Androids=350M). As such Trunks's warning cannot be used as an excuse for why Gero’s calculations were off. The only thing that did upset Gero's calculations was the SSJ transformation boosting Goku’s base more than what he calculated with the Kaio-ken. Still he allowed enough safety margin to compensate for the SSJ boost so good thinking for him. But whether Gero's safety margin could also compensate for the 3 year intense training is another scenario which was never truly tested in the source material and theory suggests that it most likely could not.rereboy wrote:In any case, that's besides the point. I get what you are trying to say but it continues to be beside the point, imo.
Dr. Gero monitored Goku until the end of their fight with Vegeta. It was then that he made his calculations regarding Goku and determined how strong he could possibly get and stopped monitoring him personally.
The SSJ transformation and Trunks' warning were impossible to predict events that surely threw Gero's calculations off because he had no way to predict them. All of Gero's decisions were made without those things in his mind.
If those events hadn't happen Goku would surely be much weaker and surely wouldn't be able to handle #19 and #20.
Mentioning that the Future androids (#17 and #18) were weaker than the present ones ends up being pretty irrelevant because:
a) we aren't even sure if they actually were weaker. Future #17 said to Gohan, before he killed him, that he had only been using a fraction of his power all that time;
b) Gero went with #19 and #20, not #17 and #18. It was regarding #19 and #20 that he was deciding things.
c) we have no idea that if the android were exactly like the future androids if the gang would be able to handle them;
d) Trunks' warning is not the only factor and probably it's not even the biggest factor in throwing off Gero's calculations. SSJ is.
So, yeah, I get what you saying when you say that Goku's training was "compensated" by the fact that the androids ended up being stronger than they were supposed to, but, due to the reasons I stated above, that's kind of beside the point I was making.

This is the guy who couldn't be assed to program a simple "cannot cause me harm" clause in the Androids' programming. Like most brilliant people, he was astonishingly stupid.
Re: why didn't dr.gero know about ssj?
Plot reasons is the answer. But to benefit Dr. Gero, he built 17 and 18 who were both well equipped to deal with a SSJ. So he probably figured he had enough data to create a machine that would be well beyond Goku's growth potential. And had Goku and Vegeta not gotten a new form, even 19 and 20 would be above everyone.
It was only a combination of a huge power upgrade that evened the gap, a special room that was designed for intense training, and the ability to augment that special form, that Goku/Vegeta/Trunks were able to get beyond the Androids. Which is something nobody would have predicted anyways.
Also Cell was the endgame, and he would have been many leagues beyond that.

The entire Android-Cell Saga was a cluster fuck of plot holes and inconsistencies. I think the main reasons is because of the rewriting Toriyama went through because his editor constantly told him to make new better villains to represent the main threat. I mean, people rag on Super for reasons like Freeza getting too strong in 4 months but never really consider how the premise of the Androids story was 100x more absurd. Two teenage robots being created to outmatch Goku who had a PL of 8000-32000 by having them being stronger than the self proclaimed emperor of the galaxy at a PL of 200,000,000+ (or w/e fan assumption) is really ridiculous.

Re: why didn't dr.gero know about ssj?
All that really came about by his former editor's influence was the general appearance of the enemies, and not the strength. No matter how you cut it,d you'd still end up needing for it to be a situation of Gero somehow creating two jinzou-ningen with power above Freeza for them to be credible challenges for Goku and the others, when at most his calculations would have probably had Goku in the tens of thousands or so battle power wise. Whether you can wrap your head around it being #19 and #20 over #17 and #18 as the main villains is the only real change, as it's still a case of Gero's creations needing to be stronger than Freeza.BoosterZabi wrote:The entire Android-Cell Saga was a cluster fuck of plot holes and inconsistencies. Dr. Gero gave on the Cell project a long time before the Android Saga.trick007z wrote:Plot reasons is the answer. I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

It may be ridiculous, but not inconsistent. I myself believe that it is ridiculous for a mad scientist to create 2 freezas in a lab in a cave, while hiding.BoosterZabi wrote:The entire Android-Cell Saga was a cluster fuck of plot holes and inconsistencies. DBS has far too many inconsistencies , like mixing cell jrs with ginyu force , piccolo's power ,SS gohan & freeza 1st form , vegeta getting bigger powerup than freeza , beerus knowing freeza perfectly, but not buu, etc.
Re: why didn't dr.gero know about ssj?
- Why the hell are you still thinking that Piccolo is Ginyu Force tier ? I'm not starting a strength debate here,but Tagoma just become strong as hell,that's it.It will only be an inconsistency if you don't believe that Tagoma got so strong.It's the same as a damn human scientist being able to create a Robot that surpasses a guy who destroyed a planet with 0 effort.apex_pretador wrote:It may be ridiculous, but not inconsistent. - Toriyama stated that Freeza and Beerus got along reasonably well,so it's not surprising he knew many things about Freeza
and also just becuase Beerus didn't mention Boo that doesnt mean he don't know him.Akira Toriyama’s Inside Story: What’s the relationship between Beerus and Freeza?
Even Freeza is no match for the God of Destruction Beerus, no matter what he does! Since they both destroy stuff, they got along reasonably well, but one time Freeza had his clock cleaned when he got carried away and made Beerus angry.
- What's wrong with Gohan and Freeza here ?
- How does Vegeta got a bigger powerup that Freeza ? It was very clear in Super that Freeza is superior to Goku and Vegeta.
