Yes! I hope that scares them a bit. Would they say anything if he jumped ship? I hope the next arc is, at least, 90% consistent.

Shueisha, Toei and Bandai are probably all pretty terrified of Toriyama jumping ship right now. I feel like that's a weird thing to leave in the book if they have no plans to up the quality for the next arc.

I'm almost certain that's going to be the case, sadly.

That aside though, it is intriguing that he actually addressed them about something about it anyway. Hopefully this works out to them listening to him and fixing whatever needs fixing, rather than the two forces butting heads and making Toriyama feel at odds with the franchise again.

I'd be in awe if this gets them to funnel some of the super talented Precure staff into Super for the Uni 6 arc.

I get the impression this year's Precure with its witches is going to be light on the fighting/battle, which is already weird for Precure to be. It'd be interesting if that tied into this.

This might shut up all those idiots posting stuff like "Toriyama doesn't care about Dragon Ball". The guy just created the a story with the greatest world-building he ever did and now complains when the anime doesn't do things right. If anything, he seems to care more than he ever did. As if the man did not already have my respect, but this just proves how amazing not only as an artist he is, but also as a person. I tip my hat to the man for his artistic integrity (and I am in the camp that likes Super)!

EDIT: Does anybody know when the quote was stated? Was it recently (as in the last couple of weeks) or before the New Year? I guess it should have been at the very least early December.

I never thought this day would came, but I guess even Toriyama has his limits
I'm surprised he still cares that much about Dragon Ball.

Judging by his last interviews, seems like only when BOG was released, he realized how big this series still is worldwide. I'm glady he had the balls to say it.
People that say awful things like: "Toriyama should retire; Toriyama doesn't care anymore; etc.." can finally shut up.

Dragon Ball is making money for 30+ years. Things like Super episode 5 should never happen. Even in the blu-ray release not everything was fixed.
Fans have been supporting the franchise and have the right to complain. And when the creator himself comes to the frontlines, that's the red warning.

This probably won't do much, but at least Toriyama had the balls do it! All hail, Akira Toriyama.

I'd have to disagree with you, and the general consensus seems to agree. Episode 27 was massively better than what we've gotten for awhile.

Not only does it put the majority of Super to shame but it's also among the best episodes in the entire franchise.

I... think that seriously overstates that episode. At least to the point that just because Toriyama spoke against the show, then that's the reason that episode is better than the usual stuff it churns out.

Reading his interviews in recent years, where he complained about Goku's treatment in the anime, among other things, it's pretty clear that Toriyama cares, or at least started caring about the franchise after Evolution. I'm honestly not surprised if he's following Super's production very closely - and in fact his quote validates the opposite of not-canon: if he didn't take it into account, he could just leave it alone, like he did with GT, where he never bothered to care or give any input at all.

As for episode 27, it was certainly much better than 24-26, but on par with the best episodes of the series, at most.

You're also overstating Toriwayam's quote. Being involved because he expects the best quality as possible from it is quite a bit different from "spoke against the show".

This will definitely have a very positive impact on the story's quality cause he's not just doing it for the $$$, he's doing it because he wants to and he likes what he's doing.
