God, this hits me so hard. He was such a talent. He was known throught Latin America as the beloved voices of Seiya, Rick Hunter, Rex from Toy Story.

Only 58 years old, too...man, that's sad.

It's a shame. Is there an example of a North American VA you could give that was akin to Mr. Barrero's skill/popularity?

I hate sounding elitist, but there are none. No North American VA has reached him,at least not in the anime scene. Its literally like if Frank Whelker, or Touhru Furuya died. He was THAT beloved.

It doesn't surprise me to hear that. I get the impression that the dubbing business is...not necessarily huge, but certainly bigger than it is over in the English-speaking world, because as a country, the U.S. exports far more shows than it imports. Considering that Barrero played two roles of Furuya's (Seiya and Yamcha), that comparison seems appropriate.

It's so, so sad!

I've meet don Jesús Barrero back in 2005 for the first time, here in Chile, at an anime convention, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Robotech. He was always so nice, and he was such a talented man. It is so sad, even myy mother was very shocked about the news of his passing.

Que En Paz Descanse Jesús "Chucho" Barrero. Always in our hearts.
