Jesus Barrero, 1st Yamcha and Puar, Died this friday.
God, this hits me so hard. He was such a talent. He was known throught Latin America as the beloved voices of Seiya, Rick Hunter, Rex from Toy Story.

Only 58 years old, too...man, that's sad.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

LatinAmerican fans basically grew up with him, myself included. Sad news.

It's a shame. Is there an example of a North American VA you could give that was akin to Mr. Barrero's skill/popularity?
The biggest truths aren't original. The truth is ketchup. It's Jim Belushi. Its job isn't to blow our minds. It's to be within reach.

I hate sounding elitist, but there are none. No North American VA has reached him,at least not in the anime scene. Its literally like if Frank Whelker, or Touhru Furuya died. He was THAT beloved.

It doesn't surprise me to hear that. I get the impression that the dubbing business is...not necessarily huge, but certainly bigger than it is over in the English-speaking world, because as a country, the U.S. exports far more shows than it imports. Considering that Barrero played two roles of Furuya's (Seiya and Yamcha), that comparison seems appropriate.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:ABED wrote:It's a shame. It's so, so sad!
I've meet don Jesús Barrero back in 2005 for the first time, here in Chile, at an anime convention, commemorating the 20th anniversary of Robotech. He was always so nice, and he was such a talented man. It is so sad, even myy mother was very shocked about the news of his passing.

I am not an english speaker and I'm self-taught. Please excuse my awful grammar, I'm doing my best to improve.
