Because he's a cheater and nobody likes a cheater! :lolno:

Ask Toriyama, he is the biggest source of Yamcha bashing.

Because it makes them feel better about their miserable lives to bring down the lesser character.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

Because there is a lot of material and unlike Kuririn, he hasnt done enough positive things to make up for it.

Let me first say Welcome to Kanzenshuu! I don't hate Yamcha or have anything against him really...He just became a back burner character compared to the early series of Dragonball. He did kind of TRY to make up and do what he could to help Gohan against Cell there at the end. It's at the point though now in the series were I highly doubt his character will ever really become relevant again because Goku's fighting God's and opponents much stronger so Yamcha doesn't have a prayer. Maybe he figured that out a long time ago and that's the reason he's always chillin out somewhere? What's the point... :P
The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

Him and everyone else helping was added in by Toie, in the manga Vegeta is the only one who attacks him.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

-People don't make fun of Chiaotzu because he is barely a character.
-Roshi's whole character arc was about training his students and being surpased by them eventually, he served his role and remained a wise old man, nothing to make fun of there.
-Yajirobe retired from fighting but still managed to do more stuff than Yamcha in the couple of arcs where he was relevant. Also he kind of is a joke character in later arcs, he is supposed to make you laugh. Yamcha just trys and fails.

The problem with Yamcha is that, after the arc where he debuted, he became the guy who was there to show how strong the new guys were. You could say the same about just about every character but, unlike most of them, Yamcha doesn't have a lot of wins or badass moments (like Tenshinhan or Krillin). He only defeats the Invisible man(with help from outside) and fighters in the preliminary rounds of the TB.
Still, I think the joke about Yamcha being a looser started because he was killed by the saibaman. Things like being almost killed by Gero in 2 seconds and losing his girl to Vegeta added to the looser perception, but it all started with the saibaman IMO, that one was kind of embarrasing. Not showing up to fight Freeza's minions when even Roshi was there in ROF didn't help either.

I still like Yamcha though but his track record after the first arc is pretty bad:
-easily defeated by Jacky Chun (no shame in that though)
-beats the Invisible Man (with help from outside) and then gets trashed by the Mummy
-Tenshinhan breaks his leg
-does nothing in the Piccolo Daimao Arc (because he has a freaking broken leg!)
-gets beaten by Kami (again, no shame there and he showed a good technique but it was a gag fight basically)
-killed by a saibaman
-Vegeta steals his girlfriend
-gets a hole in his chest 2 seconds after 19 and Gero appear (badass scene!) and spends the rest of the arc being kind of a pussy (till the Cell Games at least)
-doesn't do anything in Buu's arc
-doesn't fight Freeza's soldiers in ROF while Roshi does. Also Tenshinhan is bossing him arond apparently (in the movie at least)

So.... yeah, Toriyama hasn't been kind to Yamcha lol. He still had his good moments:

It's worth mentioning that Toei Yamcha actually got some moments to shine such as:

-Surviving longer than Krillin and Chiaotzu during the Pendulum Room episode
-Defeating Recoome
-Defending Goku from a Cell Jr by kicking it flying (with Tien's help)
-Easily stomping Olibu and that other guy on the Great Kai World

I actually like Yamcha as a character for the most part, and think the stuff he's done (both anime and manga) should earn him at least some respect. He's put his life on the line for the sake of the earth a few times at least, which is pretty brave for a human in the world of Dragonball.

Yamcha's best moments is firing his energy blasts at Perfect Cell with everyone else in the climax of the Cell games.

He's an easy target because of how much Toriyama loves to make fun of him.

Because Toriyama used him too much to showcase the big bad's abilities, without giving him any wins of his own. You get older reading the series, you recognize that Yamcha needs work, and to hide the irritation or sadness about it, you laugh and mock him instead. At least, that's how I see it.

Because Yamcha was frequently used by Toriyama as a tool to showcase how strong the new foes were. And the fact that his girlfriend of many years dumped him for a guy in Vegeta who was indirectly responsible for his death. Lastly, he got nearly killed in a matter of seconds in the Android Arc by Gero after "training" for 3 whole years.

Yamcha had one good fight against Goku very earlier in the series.. then.

-He lost to Roshi in the first round of the tournament. To set up Goku's fight with him.
-He lost to the Mummy at Baba's place. To set up Goku's fight with him.
-He lost to Tenshinhan in the first round of the tournament. To set up Goku's fight with him.
-Does nothing of note in the King Piccolo arc.
-Loses to Kami at the tournament. To set up Kami's fight with Piccolo, which in turn sets up Goku's fight with him.
-Is immediately murdered by the Saibamen to set up the fight with the Saiyans.
-Is the first person taken out of commission by the weakest group of Androids.
-Does nothing of note in the Cell portion of the arc.
-Isn't even a major player in the Boo arc, and dies with everyone else.

He's literally the first person to lose in every arc to set up the endgame. When he isn't, he isn't really a consequential character.

This is a topic tailor made for Gaffer Tape. I'd say it's because of how he's constantly used as a measuring stick and how in the "canon", he really doesn't do anything of significance that makes up for his constant failures. I mean, w/o Yamucha, what could we really say that the series missed?

Yamcha is a lot of fun in Dragon Ball, and still provides some good entertainment in the Z portion too. It is a shame he wasn't written to keep up with at least Krillin though. Hopefully in Super he might get some moments to shine?
