General "Who animated this" thread

Post by Gohanhx » Thu Mar 24, 2016 9:27 am

It would be neat to have a single place where you can bring all your questions as to who animated a specific scene or frame. It would bring us all to a more a uniform understanding of the styles of different animators. It may also spark some interesting discussions.

So, just to kick things off, who animated this frame?

My guess is Keisuke Masunaga but I'm not too familiar with his work to be sure.

That's a Studio Cockpit episode (#247), so it's one of these:

Keisuke Masunaga
Isao Sugimoto
Chisato Ikehira
Tomekichi Takeuchi
Yōko Iizuka
Megumi Yamashita

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if it were Masunaga himself.

Woah. Tomekichi Takeuchi worked on Cockpit episodes, too? Never knew.

I'm not computer techie. So I dunno how to post pictures

But can anyone tell who animated DBZ's final episode. Ep 291: Goku's Dream is Super Huge!! To Become Much Stronger!!

The reason being it represents Dragonball's "complete" transition from hand-drawn animation to computerized animation.

That specific episode had strong "high quality feel" similar to Movie quality as Fusion Reborn & Wrath of Dragon. I wonder if Tadayoshi Yamamuro animated that episode.

Thanks in advance

It was lead by Shingo Ishikawa.

The key animators were:

Shingo Ishikawa
Atsushi Matsumoto
Tetsuya Saeki
Yūji Hakamada
Shin’ichirō Fukushima
Takayuki Manaka
Takeo Ide
Kumiko Horikoshi

Takeo Ide was responsible for some of coolest cuts from the movies.

Just so everyone knows, Kanzenshuu does actually list the credits for every single episode in their Episode Guide. I'm literally just pulling names from there.

It's really simple to post pictures to the forum. The only thing you need is the direct link (URL) to the picture you wish to share. If the image is on your personal computer, you will need to upload it to an image-hosting website first. The golden standard is http://imgur.com/ (you might want to make an account). Here's a quick and dirty overview of the BBCode:

I want to share this picture: http://i.imgur.com/cuqNvHU.png

1) To hyperlink to the image, use URL-Goes-Here]Words-Go-Here.

2) To display the image, use ImageURL-Goes-Here[/img].

Image

3) To hide an image in a spoiler tag, use [spoiler*]Image[/spoiler]. (Remove the * first.)

It's simple once you get the hang of it. Keep practicing!

Wow. This thread is still awfully quiet. Oh well. Got another question. Who were the animators behind the Final Bout opening?

https://youtu.be/-LSL8NpCm_o

I've heard that Shida was the animation supervisor, but don't know for sure. Also, This opening has been storyboarded quite beautifully, It'd be awesome if someone could tell who storyboarded it.

I'm not sure about the other shots. Maybe they were all animated by Naotoshi Shida from scratch or key animated by other unknown animators.

Dragon Ball: Final Bout Animation Staff

Director: Hashimoto Mitsuo (likely storyboarded it, too)
Animation Supervisor: Shida Naotoshi
Key Animation: Not credited in the US release.

Yeah, that sucks. What sucks even more is that Shida hasn't done any work as an animation supervisor for the franchise since.

Hey, guys. Here I am again. This time, I want to ask about
the animators that worked on the opening of Ultimate Tenkaichi.

https://youtu.be/VrVWS47M4VM

It's one of my favourite openings from any Dragon Ball video game. It's got some awesome animation. I'm really curious as to who functioned as Animation Supervisor for this opening. It doesn't look like Yamamuro, so it can't be him.

It was Yamamuro. He just wasn't as heavy handed with the other animators' cuts. Presumably because he was busy working on his own bits.

Character Design and Animation Supervisor: Yamamuro Tadayoshi

Key Animation:
Ootsuka Ken
Kanno Toshiyuki
Wada Takaaki
Tate Naoki
Kawamura Atsuko
Kurita Shin’ichi
Komino Masahiko
Shida Naotoshi
Oonishi Ryou
Satou Masayuki
Nakajima Daisuke
Watanabe Nobuhiro
Nakamura Noriko
Miura Takahiro
Oota Akihiro
Kishita Kazue
Kamata Hitoshi
Oota Kenji
Karasawa Yu’ichi
Yabumoto Yousuke
Maeshima Hiroshi
Shoda Takahiro
Suwa Madoka
Pol Anonuevo
Francis Caneda
Rhem Valencia
Victor Balanon
Noel Anonuevo
Alfredo Reyes
Yamamuro Tadayoshi

Note that this list includes the cutscenes, too. You can find the animators tagged for most of the impressive cuts here.

Great, thanks. I really love Shida's cut. Shida effects are best effects.

These frames are surely animated by Takeo Ide.

Yes... it's likely by Takeo Ide.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I can speculate on who animated these scenes but a second opinion always helps to confirm:

Goku vs. Tullece's henchmen (Minoru Maeda?)

SSJ3 Goku/SSJ2 Vegeta vs. Janemba (Tadayoshi Yamamuro?)

Ultimate Gohan vs. Hildegarn

Piccolo vs. #17

Maeda Minoru only was only ever credited for key animation for Dragon Ball Episode #22 and Episode #29.

Anyone know who may have animated this. I found it when looking in my favorites. I don't know where this scene is from.
