I can't wait to have Super here in Italy and considering BoG and RoF had other dubbers, while the TV serie will probably get our old cast, and those are the voices I grew up with so I really can't wait to finally hear DBZ characters with our "real" voices (unfortunately our Goku died...)
Addirittura un altro italiano su Kanzenshuu! Potrei commuovermi. :D
You can add Gianfranco Gamba voicing Freeza to the dearly departed. But yeah, for anyone who didn't know (and most of you really wouldn't know), Paolo Torrisi - who sadly passed away about ten years ago - was the heart and soul of the franchise in Italy.
So incredibly iconic and with such a distinct voiceprint it would be nigh-impossible to satisfy old fans unless they hired an impersonator.

By the way, it's true, though, good old 'Murica was always a couple steps behind - historically, at least. I don't know in the rest of Europe, but in Italy we had our dubbing of Dragon Ball Z in 2000 and various Dragon Ball dubs between 1986 and 1996.
That being said, it does feel a little strange for Europe to grab Dragon Ball Super first, given the exposure DB received in the U.S. in the 2000s.

How is it strange? America got Z and Dragon Ball almost last. Now if you meant LATIN America, where we did get it in 1995 AND where its a humonguous hit it would make more sense.

Also BONGIORNO! (SORRY FOR MY HORRIBLE ITALIAN)

I always wanted to meet fans from all over the world!

1995 wasn't that far off from 1996, when the Saban dub first aired, 1997, when the first 3 uncut movies were released, and 1999, when Funi continued dubbing the show in-house. Also remember that the first LA dub was based off Harmony Gold's English dub, both having aired in the late 80s. So while Latin America DID have a lead compared to English speaking nations, it wasn't by much, ESPECIALLY concerning DBZ. DB post Pilaf-saga on the other hand...

You are super right. My mistake. I never expected the Americas to get the show before Europe though.

Well France was the country that started the Dragon Ball import craze.

They spread it over europe and then the rest of the world.

It makes sense they would be the first to get the international version.

They won't be the first. There will be an asian english dub produced and aired before France airs anything.

Wasn't the US one of the first countries to get Kai outside of Japan? Or am I remembering wrong?

Were they? I recall it not being so, but I'm not totally sure. Gotta love my shoddy memory at times.

Idk wth Funimation and Toei are doing. French dub, Portuguese dub, Malaysian English dub all coming out this year. Funimation still doesn't have a license yet. Not going to point fingers as long as I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but whoever's fault it is, way to treat one of the biggest DB (if not the biggest) DB fan base.

One of the reasons One Piece has almost become irrelevant in the dubbed versions, is because it's so far behind the Japanese version, it's become irrelevant. They have to prevent the same mistakes. (And OP and DB are the only 2 dubs I care about)

Congrats to France. I hope Funi's able to eventually get the license in the U.S. Would be nice to have an official subbed stream an hour after it airs in Japan like One Piece.
On hiatus.

I do know that the French dubs of Buu Kai, RoF & now Super were all taken care of by Toei France. Perhaps because they are a division of Toei Animation, they don't have some of the red tape preventing overseas third party licensees.
Though I guess, how come the Malaysian company have been so quick to set their dub in motion?. It more than likely is down to a TV deal (the Malaysian dub is already confirmed to air on Toonami, the French version will be on J:One), but surely there can't be a shortage of takers?.

Where do you have this confirmation about the french dub being aired on J One? I haven't seen that anywhere.

It was an assumption on my part. Sorry about that.

Yeah, I was thinking that it'd be strange, because according to rumors I've heard, Toei's been trying to get it onto bigger networks more targeted towards kids. J-One's a very much nice channel.

That's precisely why it's taking time. They have to get the launch of Super correct. Ideally a television deal on Nicktoons or Cartoon Network or similar would be great but I'd imagine it'd take time to sort out plus availability of FUNi's actors, how quick could the produce the dub would they have do a cut and uncut dub again? I'm sure Toei and FUNi are trying to sort something out but we need patience when it happens it happens it's not going anywhere.
