I was a defender of the Funimation Z dub, but as of lately I've been doing a few Kai marathons, and I've become really accustomed to this version of DBZ.

Kai is now my default option for watching the show in English, I love it, the cast really did a magnificent job at their second shot. The difference in acting performance is staggering.

And the replaced cast really fit, I can't get enough of Chris Ayres as Frieza. The man knows that character. I do have nostalgia for Linda Young's performance, and I respect her as an actress but compared to Ayres she was really miscast in that role.

Not to mention the characterizations of the characters between the two dubs are often very different.

After rewatching both shows, I can honestly say 4kids dub of Pokémon's indigo league is better then Funi's Dub of DB,Z and GT.

^4Kids didn't deserve the hate they got just because of what they did to One Piece, most of their other dubs were actually good.

They're hated because they were a hack company who actively insults the intelligence of their audience.

Also they did a shit job with the Yu-Gi-Oh! series, Sonic X (then again, Sonic X was pretty much shit to begin with), Tokyo Mew Mew, etc.

The only dub outside Pokemon they did okay with was Kinnikuman Nisei (and even that has some serious issues).

Even as a kid watching Yu-Gi-Oh! I could see through everything they used to cover up deaths. I do have nostalgia for that dub and own the whole thing, but 4Kids do have a tendency to underestimate the intelligence of their target audience.

Pokémon was fine, but much like Dragon Ball Super when it gets dubbed there's very little you could censor.

Chi Chi is such annoying b.tch, i thought she was bad in Saiyan saga, but you could understand that, her being inexperienced as mother, and witnesing what happened to Goku at 23rd Budokai, but..she mellowed down in Cell-Buu saga, so what happeed here? Why they made her like that again? I swear she is one of main reasons i don't like this series, and i just wait for someone to kill her slowly I know she is supposed to be this stereotypical Japanese equivalent of soccer mom, but...I'm sorry, its not funny, at least for me.

Between the more consistent video quality, better Japanese voice work, better music placement and me finding the redub of Z and later dubbing fairly enjoyable and not being bothered by filler, I'm preferring Z more and more. If it wasn't for the excellent dub I'd probably forget Kai exists.

You don't need to stop being a country bumpkin to be a good mother. The video you posted is interesting, but I'm not buying that Chichi couldn't comprehend that Buu was a mystical monster. There's naiveté and then there's willingly blind. She's seen too much by that point to not get that.

By that point in the series, she had been around or knew of those things for years. She didn't hit Buu because she couldn't conceive of a being like that. She hit him because she was understandably angry. It was about catharsis.

And yeah, 4 years is plenty of experience for a mother.

Sure, Chichi lived with her father who was Muten Roshi's student. Let's not forget that her home was set on fire by something mystical, so she's not unfamiliar with mysticism.

I'm actually pretty happy with Super so far. I'm behind, still in the Resurrection F arc, but I'm enjoying it fairly well. It's still clearly Toei primarily in control, but I can feel Toriyama's hand in it, however light that may be, and it feels fun as a result.

Most of those people are Gohan "fans" who can't accept Gohan's not really the "badass" fighter they thought he was. Toei seems determined to make her as unlikable as possible in Super.

I dont mind Gohan not beiong badass, he never meant to be one, he is very strong fighter, who hates fighting,, only thing i dont like, is Toei made him such loser in Super F. As for unpopular positie opinion, i like Garlic Jr. Saga, mostly becasue of Gohan/Kurirn/Piccolo dynamic, and i find Marron to be hot

How do you figure? By 4, parents have dealt with their kids being infants, the terrible 2's, and being toddlers. That's A LOT of experience. She's not a newbie.

Here's my unpopular opinion, Piccolo is NOT the better father figure.
