Most Annoying Bulma Moments

Post by Bansho64 » Wed May 11, 2016 10:44 pm

We all know the blue haired scientist known as Bulma isn't always the most likable person and she can bit of a handful sometimes. What are the moments that seemed like the worst we've ever seen of her? Why do you think she was annoying at that time in the series?

Just off the top of my head, there's the myriad of times she's accusing poor Yamcha of cheating when there's absolutely no evidence of it, especially not when she remains fairly flirtatious with other guys sometimes...but if I had to pick one solitary moment, it's whatever in the heck is up with her right before they go to Namek. Between the manga, the old dub of Z, Kai, and even the original Japanese version, I have still never been able to pin down what in the heck she is so upset about there to the degree that she is. Hell, Kuririn and Gohan even bring it up! It's just...bizarre.

Her treatment of Jaco in Super is rather obnoxious. I haven't watched it past the Freeza arc yet so I don't know if she gets worse/mellows out but I remember her constantly attacking him for the littlest things.
EDIT:Caught up with Super recently, holy shit she gets worse.

I also found it really weird is how at the end of the Saiyan arc when shes reminiscing about her times with Yamcha, one of the moments shown is just her punching him. That bothers me for a number of reasons but I don't want this post to get too rant-y.

Aside from the obvious Namek stuff... there her treatment of Jaco like someone else mentioned and when she freaked out over Mr. Popo cause of the implications.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I think shes just taking it far more seriously than the others and annoyed at how easy going Krillin and Gohan are about the whole thing. Pair that with being cramped up in a ship for a entire month with little to do and I can imagine why shed be so irritable.

Oh no, I definitely got that from how she was after the trip. The two dopes even run right out onto the planet without stopping to think if they can even breathe first or not (though I guess the fact that Piccolo and Kami can breathe just fine on Earth would suggest they could on Namek, but eh)! I'm even understanding of how she is during all those filler moments we see of her on Namek. She's basically left alone to survive in the wilderness while insane stuff starts happening everywhere else. I'm thinking more of how she is right as they're leaving though, when Gohan shows up with his new bowl-cut hairstyle, and Kuririn's got his cap, and everything. She's annoyed at anything and everything there, without seemingly any reason other than 'This is Bulma, Bulma is quite often irritable'.

Well with the way shes dressed youd think she was about to blow up a asteroid with Bruce Willis. Along come the other two looking like they are about to go for a picnic or fun drive and I think you can chalk that up as another reason she was pissed. She cut her hair, got into protective gear, and the other two come along looking woefully unprepared, at least from her standpoint.

Right. The whole thing makes her feel foolish for going all-out in preparing for the trip as well as annoyed that she'll have to spend it with two people clearly not taking it as seriously as her. I didn't understand it either on my first viewing though haha.

On the topic at hand: Bulma annoyed me most in the TV series after the group returns from the theme park incident with Hasky. Here she slaps and ditches Yamcha after being furious with him the whole sub-arc about the existence of his female fan club that he acquired after the 21st TB and misunderstanding the compromising position he was in while fighting with Hasky. It had me frustrated, but I suppose that's the point since the whole thing is played for laughs. It definitely works in that respect, but her attitude during the incident makes me dubious of her claims that Yamcha "cheated" on her during the early Saiyan and Android sagas. I'm no big fan of their relationship or anything, but when many who watch the show use the "Yamcha is a cheater" thing to bash him, and accept it as fact based on THOSE claims from Bulma, I get a bit irritated.

Her grieving over Yamcha after his first death is fantastic and almost makes up for all this, but THEN we see her on Namek throwing darts at a PICTURE OF HIM. You made the ridiculous journey to reach that god-forsaken planet in order to wish him back to life you schizo!

So those are the only moments I've ever been truly annoyed by Bulma. Otherwise I find her hilarious :D

When she shoved herself into Goku's four-star ball hunt during the Red Ribbon arc, although Goku immediately put her in her place there
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Anyone remember the time she gave the Prince of all Saiyans a pink shirt?

Tiffany Volmer i can't stand her. She just makes Blooma unbearable. So,yeah Blooma in Funi's Dragon Ball is the most annoying.

Pretty much everything she did on Namek either bored on annoyed me. The filler was especially not kind to her.

This is one of the myriad of reasons why I can't stand filler. It often takes a character's quirk from the manga and extrapolates it to such an extreme degree that it becomes unbearable to watch. Their thought process always seemed to be "well, we know that The Turtle Hermit is a pervert, so let's drill that into our audiences heads with every single bit of filler he appears in" or "well, we know that Bulma seems slightly irritated with Yamcha sometimes, and we also know that she has a tendency to complain a little bit, so how's about we inundate viewers with copious amounts of filler involving Bulma excessively complaining and/or treating Yamcha horrendously."

So not only does it seem poorly written with the sole purpose being to kill time, but it ends up damaging the characters in the process. It takes a character like Bulma and turns the audience against her. Bulma is one of my favorite characters, but I can totally see how some people might be less than happy with her if their only exposure to Dragon Ball has been the anime, especially the Volmer-voiced original English dub. Hell, if I only had the anime to go on, I may even actively dislike her based on the Namek filler alone. The fact that this thread even exists is a testament to just how damaging filler can be to a character.

Whining incessantly on Namek and having tantrums because Gohan and Krillin weren't spending any time with her. Well, they couldn't really because they were almost single-handedly taking on the most powerful army in the universe. Enough said.

She was really nasty in the early parts of the Namek arc, before they leave and during the journey. And all of her filler scenes on Namek were rather boring and annoying.

When she suggests the rest of the cast not gamble with the fate of the entire planet for the sake of their egos at the beginning of the Cell arc.

God, what a nag!

Also, Bulma is completely relatable during the Namek arc. She gets dragged into total hell and is left alone for days without anyone telling her what's going on. It's a complete nightmare for her (and Gohan and Kuririn, but she can't even leave whatever hiding spot she has).

Pfft she was lucky Gohan and Krillin are beta nice as fuck. If I was any of them I'd probably just leave her there on Namek to die.
