There was nothing to worry about in the end. They did a good job this episode, also with less no.of animators than the previous ones. Finally great to see some talented animators working on the series. Who did the Black vs Trunks fight ? Didn't look like Shimanuki to me. Guess the timeframe was enough for them despite it seemingly looking same to some episodes from the previous arcs. Though could be wrong about that.dhaval_dongre wrote:
For next week's episode many are guessing Shimanuki to be the supervisor. But the only doubt I have is, if its him then he will only have 5 weeks to prepare for it coming off #42. So my guess is, if its him supervising it then the key animation might be outsourced or he might be co-supervising it with someone else. He might still end up as the only one to supervise the episode, because he handled #42 and it looked decent, although there were considerably more no. of animators working on that episode. Probably might be the same pattern for #48 also. But I don't understand if its him, then why would they give him the episode so early, because the entire purpose of the mini arc before this was to give more time to production, like they did with today's episode (8 weeks and how nice it looked today.) I am hoping there's more to this than what I am feeling right now.

Yeah, wasn't Shimanuki. Didn't have any of his traits outside of a few cutaways that weren't part of the cut itself. The name that's been put forth is Futoshi Higashide. Based on this cut, I'd say there's a good chance it's him.dhaval_dongre wrote:There was nothing to worry about in the end. Excellent episode, to say nothing of an improved production.
Did anyone notice how Shimanuki drew the character models with proper cheek shade? I'm really impressed with how far he's come in just less than one year. He's almost back to his old Dragon Ball Z self. Out of all the Super supervisors, Shimanuki is personally my favorite. He really does stay away from Yamamuro's influence and be his own man.

We could get some newcomers, depends on what changes Hatano wants to or can make.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #48]
Yes! He's actually one of the few people who's always done the correct cheek shading. Though it's definitely become way more pronounced and angular since his tournament episode.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Did anyone notice how Shimanuki drew the character models with proper cheek shade? It really is interesting to see how far he's come:

The bottom left Vegeta shot is one of my favourites. It is so classic Shimanuki. I love it.

Unsurprisingly, really. He'd been working on nothing but One Piece for around 6 years by this point. I'm surprised he got back into the swing of Dragon Ball so quickly!Noah wrote:Wow the first ones in 2005 looks like something taken straight from One Piece![]()

Always thought that DBZ Sagas intro looked awful.
Now that I know it was drawn in a style reminiscent of One Piece, it all makes sense now.

2005's shots are from the opening of the Dragon Ball Sagas video game.Hit!! wrote:Where are the 2005 and 2013 shots from??
2013's are Shimanuki's work on the One Piece x Toriko x Dragon Ball Z special that aired around the time Battle of Gods was being hyped up.

Tha One Piece/Dragonball special always looked off to me color wise.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #48]
It was a DBxOPxToriko special, and almost everything about it looked off to me too, probably because it looked more like a Toriko episode than anything...even the One Piece half didn't feel very OP-ish to me.nite_jay wrote:Tha One Piece/Dragonball special always looked off to me color wise.

Shimanuki's faces are still a little weird but I don't mind. He seems to be great at giving us fight scenes.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Is it just me or are the super saiyan aura's absolutely beautiful but the other ones are just plain ugly and unprofessional looking?

The modern ones or what?
If you mean the SSJ now, they're just ok. I don't like the colors, but they do the job.
I like the more fire-ish feel of the ones in the 2008 special tho (at this point I'm just circlejerking that OVA).

The modern ones, maybe it's because the super saiyan is more translucent but it feels more believable than all the other auras.Avok wrote:The modern ones or what?

I've been meaning to reply again for a while but work has kept me really busy. Anyway, episode 48 looked really good. I loved Higashide's cut, I hope he comes back sometime!
It's crazy how much Shimanuki has improved. I know I said I like the way that Tate draws Future Trunks, and I definitely still do, but I actually think Shimanuki's Trunks is my favorite so far. I love that shot of Trunks in the Time Machine when he shouted at Black. If Shimanuki could only squish his faces just a little bit, it'd be darn near perfect. When Shimanuki draws a character well, he draws them really well.
