Idea: how Toriyama could save the franchise with a third movie.
Re: Idea: how Toriyama could save the franchise with a third movie.
We shouldn't be drifting towards another topic. This is about how to end DB Super in ways that respect Dragon Ball as a whole and through another movie. It is my opinion that DB Super and Resurrection of F were nowhere close to it, but does that change Battle of Gods being a good follow up? As you can see, it's not just about the DBZ anime, because what Battle of Gods faithfully continued was the manga that covers the original Dragon Ball and DBZ.

Sorry.
Dragon Ball doesn't need saving, end of story.

I see what you mean, even though Toriyama has sung his praises for the work Toyotaro is doing on the DBS manga. How about Yusuke Watanabe or Masakazu Katsura, or maybe even one of Toriyama's old editors like Yu Kondo.Neo-Makaiōshin wrote: If Toriyama were to have an assistant writer with him it should NOT be Toyotaro. Despite me liking some things that he has done in DBSuper manga, for all intents and purpose Toyotaro (co)writing a Dragon Ball story would be the equivalent of a biased fanboy writing a Dragon Ball fan fiction. That may have sound rude but I would first prioritize a good writer over someone knowledgeable in Dragon Ball.
Funnily enough, stuff like that is how you know Toriyama wrote itABED wrote: The reason I don't think it worked is because of that fight. The Z fighters are FAR stronger than any of Freeza's troops. This isn't even about power levels, but someone should've pointed out that it didn't make a lick of sense. Piccolo had some trouble against a soldier who was said to rival Zarbon and Dodoria! Piccolo's power by the end of Z dwarfed even Freeza's power back on Namek. Things like this interfere with the action, since the logic of it is thrown out the window.
But yeah even for someone like me who has never bothered with trying to pinpoint how strong each character is during every arc I was rather taken aback by Freeza saying he could reach a power level of 1.3 million because I remember on Namek it was a huge deal when he said his power level was 1 million and that was before he got to his final form (iirc). Also I can sort of buy it that Piccolo was tired from fighting so many soldiers but yeah you're right because Piccolo was able to hold his own against second form Freeza then he fused with Kami and got strong enough to face imperfect Cell and he keeps up with his training regularly so someone as strong as Zarbon should have been a cakewalk. This is why Toriyama needs a co-writer or just somebody to correct his continuity errors at least, as much as I admire Toei for giving him full creative freedom it's weird that no one spoke up with an innocent "Toriyama-sensei, this doesn't make sense we need to do a slight re-write!"

Oh I agree. Not sure why you quoted me. Like I said in my earlier post compared to the first half of the original series the second half(DBZ) is weak in terms of writing.ABED wrote: The action wouldn't have been all that interesting had it not had characters that weren't interesting and even early Dragon Ball had some great fights like Goku vs. Jackie Chun or Goku vs. Tao Pai Pai that put many of Z's to shame.

It should be someone who can really push Toriyama forward cause his last 2 stories felt very limited and could've been a lot better and bigger.Deathbringer wrote: I see what you mean, even though Toriyama has sung his praises for the work Toyotaro is doing on the DBS manga. [quote="ABED"]That's a strawman argument. I never said that or even implied that. This isn't about being a realer fan, but far too many look at Dragon Ball as inferior for false reasons. They view all of DB as being like the first arc. Someone even went so far to say the two Piccolo arcs are essentially DBZ. So in other words, DB is light and fluffy, DBZ is action packed, the Piccolo arcs are action packed and not light and fluffy, ergo they are de facto DBZ.[/qoute]
How come when one makes a general comment not particularly aimed at anyone, that people get defensive and go "I didn't say that?" I never said you did.
Fans who do that (what you said about the Piccolo arcs in Dragon Ball) should be corrected. But it is true that DBZ is different than Dragon Ball.

The people involved with the franchise stopped respecting it a long time ago and that won't change anytime soon.Desassina wrote: This is about how to end DB Super in ways that respect Dragon Ball as a whole and through another movie.

No, BOG will always be a good movie regardless of what comes after it and although it's a start to a new chapter in the DB world, it also works as an epilogue to the manga.
