Could Dragon Ball Super air on UK TV?
Seeing that Battle Of Gods in the UK inspired this thread. Along with the fact that Kix is starting to air action stuff again, they deviated for a while. I hope it airs there. They will probably need some censorship because the dub will be uncut if it airs on Toonami. Kai had the Nicktoons version which Super wont.
I really want kids to see Super, I know some are definitely staying up late to watch Toonami.

Re: Could Dragon Ball Super air on UK TV?
I spoke with the general manager of Toei Europe, and he said they were trying to get it on here in the UK.
Though when I spoke with one of his staff, they said they weren't currently, but if it gets good viewing figures elsewhere in Europe, they will. I know, totally confusing, typical Toei.
To add to the confusion, they "weren't aware" of an English dub, hmm.
So, when I asked about how they would air it here without subtitles, as the kids would be too young to read them, I received no response.

First of all I would like to say, thank you thank you THANK YOU for posting here. And for the insight into Toei and how they work. I really hope Funi or an Ocean dub of Super airs on the UK. I wouldnt mind the Big Green dub cast but I'm afraid that if they do it it will be the only dub that will be broadcast so I'm going with Funi and Ocean instead.

It will happen eventually, but we may need to wait until it starts airing in the US, which it may not until 2018, unless something is done about Kai's timeslot.
A Big Green dub won't happen. It's a thing of the past.
I'd love an Ocean dub of Super, although I wouldn't hold my breath seen as how their Kai dub still hasn't seen the light of day (at least not to the general fanbase). And even if Kix wanted an Ocean dub TOEI mightn't allow them to have it.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:First of all I would like to say, thank you thank you THANK YOU for posting here. Do you have any info about international non-English broadcasts about the Dragon Ball anime or manga translations/editions? Please message me. Researching for a future book with Dragon Ball scholar Derek Padula

Re: Could Dragon Ball Super air on UK TV?
You're welcome for the info, just letting you guys know what I've managed to find out.
At this point in time, I can see Super airing here next year (if Funimation begin airing it in the states by then) given that Funimation now have a presence here in the UK with their streaming service, and have started self publishing their own titles.
I honestly don't think Funimation or Toei will want to wait until 2018 for Super to air in the States or the UK.
I will categorically say now that there is little, to no chance Toei will allow the show to debut on Toonami - a block which starts at 23:30 on a Saturday night, a time where their target audience are not able to watch it.
The type of exposure they want, is to have it advertised to reach out to children.
Sticking it on Toonami means they can't advertise the show commercially, kids aren't going to be watching Adult Swim, so they don't know it exists, and can't even ask their parents to DVR it.
Toei see Super as a second chance to achieve what they failed to do with Kai - introduce Dragon Ball to a new generation of young fans, and also, they want to roll out the show in as many territories as possible before the end of this year.
Their priorities are utilizing kids time slots, and creating merchandising opportunities.
Don't be surprised to see a toyline produced soon, just like the Irwin toys one back in the day.
All of the info I have mentioned here is from an interview with Toei Europe's General Manager Ryuji Kochi (who gave me the info about licensing it out to the UK with no dub lol).
It is likely that Toei has seen the success Level-5 has enjoyed here in the UK with Yo-Kai! Watch on Cartoon Network, which has been pulling very good numbers consistently, and are confident Super can make a similar impact.

Re: Could Dragon Ball Super air on UK TV?
I really hope so. Prior to Kai on Kix, the UK has been absolutely starved of Dragon Ball content on TV. Granted, BOG and ROF airing on Sky Cinema was pretty big deal in its own right, I wish more networks would be willing to take a gamble with Dragon Ball. Because although it has a niche audience, with the right adverting and marketing, it can reach out to many more demographics and pull in a generally large audience on consistent basis.

Re: Could Dragon Ball Super air on UK TV?
Kai on Kix was good in the sense that it was free view for people, but I was very frustrated that we didn't get Kai aired to us in HD. I was surprised Nickelodeon didn't air it since they did in the USA.
