Shape definitely. I mean it did get better as the arc went on but the start of that arc it's really off putting especially now after the "F" special.Avok wrote:The shape or the color?Baggie_Saiyan wrote:Early parts in Z when it first appeared was pretty nasty.
I don't like the shape they used in the Frieza fight, but the color is spot on.

Now it's the color they use that I don't like.

I'm a fan of Tate and even I really don't like that shot.Ajay wrote:While I found it to be one of my favourites.cuartas wrote:This is the worst shot I have seen of black in this arc
You don't like Tate much though, do you? So I guess that explains it!
I'm not particularly fond of Manabe's style, so I wasn't really feeling the styles found in the first half of this episode.

I'm with Ajay on this one. That shot looks really good imo.ArchedThunder wrote:I'm a fan of Tate and even I really don't like that shot.Ajay wrote:While I found it to be one of my favourites.cuartas wrote:This is the worst shot I have seen of black in this arc

To each his own, but that and the slightly earlier part where he was looking up more were the only pieces of Tate art this episode that bothered me.nite_jay wrote: I'm with Ajay on this one. That shot looks really good imo.
I did actually enjoy Manabe for the most part, I wouldn't mind him becoming more of a regular, as long has he stopped doing these kinds of noses.

Still waiting for Nakatsuru to supervise the Super opening. A man can dream, can't he?
Did anyone notice how that pic of Black that cuartas posted looks strangely like that giraffe CP9 guy from One Piece, Kaku? I don't know why that came into my mind but I can't unsee it now
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
From the front, that nose looks really weird. But i liked his noses in other shots! I actually like Manabe's pointy Vegeta a LOT.ArchedThunder wrote:To each his own, but that and the slightly earlier part where he was looking up more were the only pieces of Tate art this episode that bothered me.nite_jay wrote: I'm with Ajay on this one. I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.

Do we know who drew this ?

And no hair shading = win.
Lately, Goku has rarely looked this good outside of Toriyama's own faces =( .

I think that's Inaba Jin. He's pretty solid, I wonder if he'll show up again sometime now that he's done working on the extended 'F' cut.Slaythe wrote:Do we know who drew this ?

His use of perspective, I'm in love with this shot:

And the last shot from the episode, with that canted low angle like if the camera is lying on the floor. This arc has the best storyboard, by far.

Can we have Tate forever and always in DBS? Just him. The hell with the rest. I want Dragon Ball Tate to be a thing.

Do we know who the animator will be for episode 57? I would really like for it to be Karasawa (apologies if spelled wrong).

It will be Naotoshi Shida ( a fantastic animator, one of the best of all toei animation ) and another oneTHEGOKU wrote:Do we know who the animator will be for episode 57? I would really like for it to be Karasawa (apologies if spelled wrong).

Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
The animation supervisor for episode 57 is Yuichi Karasawa and Yukihiro Kitano.THEGOKU wrote:Do we know who the animator will be for episode 57? I would really like for it to be Karasawa (apologies if spelled wrong).
The only key animator we know so far is Naotoshi Shida.

There are a lot of animators that only worked on a few episodes that should be working on a lot more. The one who did 56 whose name I can't remember right now is really inconsistent but this was one of his better looking ones. He has been involved with a lot of episodes though so hopefully someone else can start getting more work. A lot of these guys have a lot of potential.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
Great, Karasawa's one of my favorites. I love his drawings. Kitano too is very, very good when he gets enough time. He's in fact the one who drew the Black picture I use as my avatar, I think?
Episode 57 is looking like it will be one of the best episodes of Super art wise and animation wise.
But I'm still wondering why they only let Shuichi Iseki handle one episode. He is very good, I hope they will bring him back and make him do more.

Your avatar was drawn by Futoshi Higashide working under Kitano.emperior wrote:Great, Karasawa's one of my favorites. I love his drawings. Kitano too is very, very good when he gets enough time. He's in fact the one who drew the Black picture I use as my avatar, I think?
Kitano's not bad, though he does get stuck with some awful animators.
At his best, I don't really find his art style that appealing, personally. But eh, personal taste and all that!

Now I have to ask because this is the only time I've really focused on the animation side of things. Since they are just supervising they aren't actually doing any of the work they are just making sure the "quality" is good or am I wrong? I just feel episode 57 is going to be very important to this arc and don't just want great acting and fighting but a good looking episode too.Ajay wrote:The animation supervisor for episode 57 is Yuichi Karasawa and Yukihiro Kitano.THEGOKU wrote:Do we know who the animator will be for episode 57? This thread really blew up in popularity. Page 38 was still talking about episode 39, and now we're on page 145 less than 20 episodes later.

See this post for details on what exactly a supervisor does.THEGOKU wrote:Now I have to ask because this is the only time I've really focused on the animation side of things. Quite often they do also provide key animation, especially on Super. Their main goal is provide a consistent look across the episode, however.
Makes me happy. It's much nicer when fans are interested in talking rationally and learning about animation than simply going off on tirades about how much they hated something.kinisking wrote:This thread really blew up in popularity. Re: Super Animation Catalogue - [Updated with #56]
Thanks for answering my question I appreciate it. With a lot of different people working on Super I figured it be more important to get some knowledge about who does what and works on what. The show is not old it is still fairly new compared to other anime but it seems each animator is coming into their own. Of course here and there we will still have flashes of bad animation but that happens.
