Which version of Super is the more official
Which version of Super is the more official
So basically, just what the topic states. I'm just curious which version of Super consider to be the more official because the television show and the manga have been drastically different (ex. Goku SSB KKx10 vs Hit). So what do you think and why?

Someone said it in another thread: whichever you like better. It's all headcanon.
Re: Which version of Super is the more official
Does AT have more involvement/input in the story for 1 vs the other?

Re: Which version of Super is the more official
As far as I/we know, he makes the outline and Toei and Toyotarou expand on it respectively, changing things up. So, simple answer, no.Floader wrote:Does AT have more involvement/input in the story for 1 vs the other?
Re: Which version of Super is the more official
There's no such thing as "more official", everything is official (apart from fans' things, of course).

I would say the anime since the manga is supposed to be just a backup/side project for it.

Both adaptions of Toriyama's draft have been acknowledged as the official continuation to his story. Advertisement and his own words have said as much.
Dragon Ball Super Complete Showcase Event wrote:“Dragon Ball Super” is a complete continuation of the Majin Boo story arc. It’s got a bit of post-battle aftermath, continues with the “Battle of Gods” arc where the God of Destruction Beerus appears and the “Revival of ‘F'” arc where Freeza comes back to life, and then, I’ve written a strange new story where they finally depart from this universe. They’re fighting against their neighbors, Universe 6! They’ll yell at me if I give away too many spoilers, so I’ll keep the rest a secret, but they’re chasing after giant Super Dragon Balls; I think things will unfold in a bright and simple way, that will be really fun and exciting!
Since it’s another universe, loads of new characters will turn up. I’ll do my best to draw the tons of character designs necessary, so I’m looking forward to this too.
You know, it suddenly occurs to me that somewhere along the line the Dragon Ball anime has become quite a huge story. Since I’m the guy who drew the thing, it’s a bit weird for me to say this, but when I first started out I never dreamed it would have a universe as a setting (laughs). Don’t worry though, it’s still going to be the same sort of easy-to-understand content as always. Please be sure to watch Dragon Ball Super on TV!
Tori-Toyo Interview wrote:Toriyama-sensei, what advice do you have for Toyotarō-sensei?
Toriyama:
Frankly… I’m perfectly satisfied with things the way they’re going (laughs).
Toyotarō:
U-Um… Really? There’s nothing you think needs to be fixed or thrown out? Don’t hold back for my sake… (sweat).
Toriyama:
Hahahaha (loud laughter). Not really… (thinks about it a little bit). Nope, not a thing! Well OK… If I have to say something, then I guess your compositions would be even better if you utilized more diverse angles. Also, I think it would be great if you included more of your own original ideas. I’m really grateful to you. I never thought an artist like you would come along to draw the continuation of my story!

Re: Which version of Super is the more official
The manga briefly shot ahead of the anime in introducing Champa and the universal tournament first and as of chapter 15 they are just about to get going towards the future and Whis has already explained that Kaioshin and Beerus' lives are intertwined.Polyphase Avatron wrote:I would say the anime since the manga is supposed to be just a backup/side project for it.
I'd say the manga is the faster variant of the series.

Re: Which version of Super is the more official
Why can't this form en mass send AT letters what even IS super? I'm sure he would be glad to clear things up but I doubt thats how it works

Re: Which version of Super is the more official
The manga seems to make the most sense in terms of progression and consistency personally. Just curious if there was any definitive answer
Re: Which version of Super is the more official
We definitely know that Akira Toriyama approves of both the anime and manga, providing minor criticism of both adaptions. That's the best answer you can hope for in relation to Dragon Ball Super's direction. They're both official, though I suspect that may not be the answer you wanted. It's true, nonetheless.
Re: Which version of Super is the more official
You have decide it on your own. But personally I take the anime.
Why without TOEI even funding a new series and movies we never would have Toriyama soon ideas for a new series after all. No super manga either.
While I blame TOEI for a lot I thank them for bringing DB back.

Re: Which version of Super is the more official
I would say the anime is the main product, but everything else like manga, staff comments and games are official. The anime, mainly because of the authority of the companies behind it, and the manga, because it's put in high regard by Mr. Toriyama himself.
Re: Which version of Super is the more official
This is my head canon but they are both Toei creations, it seems Toriyama is more involved in the manga based on statements about reviewing it and statements about not seeing scripts of the anime.

I just accept both as official, because why not?
I find both enjoyable and my world won't blow up if there are inconsistencies.

Actually, he is a little more involved with the manga. For the manga, he approves it page-by-page, and will even personally makes corrections whenever he feels it's necessary. For the anime, he is only providing the story drafts, and he hadn't even seen the final scripts when the new arc was announced, meaning he doesn't approve them first.Anime Kitten wrote:As far as I/we know, he makes the outline and Toei and Toyotarou expand on it respectively, changing things up. Superman is, and always has been, a symbol for truth, justice, and upstanding moral fortitude–a role model and leader as much as a fighter. Goku is an idealist, and believes that there is some good in everyone, but he is unconcerned with the big picture of the world…unless it has to do with some kind of fight. They're both official, but in terms of merchandising, the anime is the main product whereas the manga is somewhat of a companion.Floader wrote:So basically, just what the topic states. Re: Which version of Super is the more official
Sorry If I'm a little ignorant but why isn't Toriyama drawing DBS manga? Toyotaro is the one in charge of the manga but we know that Toriyama has corrected and even made some pages for the manga, so can anyone explain to me why he isn't drawing his own manga?

From what he has said in other interviews, he enjoys writing stories, but it is too much trouble for him, and he can't draw fighting scenes like he used to.Alee9977 wrote:Sorry If I'm a little ignorant but why isn't Toriyama drawing DBS manga? Again, it's all head cannon, but what I've personally been doing is this:
Take the manga. Take the anime. Compare them and the events that happen nearly identically in both are very likely directly lifted from Akira Toriyama's outline. That's the purest DBS canon you can possibly get.
It leaves some holes for sure, but I just fill them in with whatever I like better in that one particular instance.
