Re: Video Games Sales Discussion Thread: Extreme Butoden 91k
Extreme Butoden second weekend sales are 16.4k for a total of 91.1k, give it a few days and it'll pass the total of Ultimate Butoden.
Now it's been announced to have a Western release maybe it can get to 250k or so in the long run.

Right in the middle of that is when FUNimation and Atari had their little legal spat, and Bandai Namco indeed picked the license back up right at the exact moment stated in that document. Fun stuff!

Huh, I wonder why the contract specifically excluded license to make Dragon Ball games for PC. I know it wasn't their target market, but it seems odd.Super Saiyan Prime wrote:Stumbled on some info about Atari's old license with Funimation:

Old news from February but only just noticed it now but this site reported that Xenoverse shipped over 3 million copies by February.
http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2016/02/05/dr ... worldwide/
From my own research that I did that would make it the second most shipped DBZ game after Budokai 1 which shipped 3.5 million copies (maybe at least).

Re: Video Game Sales Discussion Thread: Xenoverse 3 million
I'm sure Xenoverse 2 will sell well but considering that Budokai sold better than Budokai 2, Tenkaichi sold better than Tenkiachi 2, Raging Blast sold better than Raging Blast 2, Legacy of Goku sold better than Legacy of Goku 2 etc
Then chances are that Xenoverse 2 will not sell the same kind of copies that the original did. That said it'll still likely outsell a lot of previous DBZ games. Previous sequels like Budokai 2, Tenkaichi 2 and Raging Blast 2 didn't really add all that much from the original so this one needs to not make the same mistake.

Re: Video Game Sales Discussion Thread: Xenoverse 3 million
So it seems as though Dragon Ball Fusions has sold 109,000 copies in 2 weeks. That's more than Extreme Butoden after two weeks (91,000) and about 600 copies more than Heroes 2 after 2 weeks.
Oh and as a side note before Xenoverse 2 comes out I plan to update the original post of this thread with all the official sales figures for the games as opposed to the Vgchartz ones which are not entirely accurate.

Gotta side with DBZAOTA482 on this one. Tenkaichi 2 was a monster improvement over Tenkaichi 1 in every damn department. It really felt like I was playing a completely different game with Tenkaichi 2.DBZAOTA482 wrote:Bullza wrote:I'm sure Xenoverse 2 will sell well but considering that Budokai sold better than Budokai 2, Tenkaichi sold better than Tenkiachi 2, Raging Blast sold better than Raging Blast 2, Legacy of Goku sold better than Legacy of Goku 2 etc

Well been 9 years since I played it, what did it add? I know it added a lot of movie characters and had a few extra maps but I don't remember much more. Oh it brought back the ability o fly around the map like Budokai 3 I suppose.
I do remember that the story mode was pretty tedious though because it had too many fights.

Huh? The gameplay style was drastically changed in Tenkaichi 2. For one thing, you could actually more than a five hit combo. Plus, the visuals were given a major face lift.Bullza wrote:Well been 9 years since I played it, what did it add? Re: Video Game Sales Discussion Thread: Now with Official figures.
I'm hoping Xenoverse 2 outperforms the units Budokai 1 shifted, but that's gonna be a hefty given that Dragon Ball is not at the same level of popularity back when Budokai 1 was released compared to now. I mean, don't get me wrong, Dragon Ball in this day and age is still quite popular worldwide, but is it on the same of level of popularity that is was in the late 90s and early 00's? Nah.

Re: Video Game Sales Discussion Thread: Now with Official figures.
Budokai 1 was the first major DBZ game overseas seeing that Final Bout was not very notice when it was release in 1997 and went up in prices in the After Market afterwards (I think the original version of the game is still pretty pricey). So most DB fans didn't get the chance to play Final Bout or any major DB fighting game. Budokai 1 was the first DBZ game for most fans and came out before DBZ ended on Toonami.
I have a feeling that Xenoverse 2 won't reach the same sales as the first game did because I do think reviewers on the web are going to say that the game does not play any different from the first game and that will turn people off.

Re: Video Game Sales Discussion Thread: Now with Official figures.
I fully expect Xenoverse 2 to sell less, possibly significantly less. Budokai 2, Tenkaichi 2, Raging Blast 2 and even the likes of Legacy of Goku 2 and Shin Budokai 2 all sold less.
I don't see why this would be any different. I'm not seeing this games big selling point to be honest, it looks like Xenoverse with some extra leftover characters. I don't even know what the story is supposed to be.
Then again even half the sales of Xenoverse would still be up there with the Tenkaichi PS2 games. Xenoverse over performed really.

Re: Video Game Sales Discussion Thread: Now with Official figures.
Theres many reasons for why Xenoverse did so much better compare to many games that came before it.
Most importantly it was available on 5 major platforms.
Second it was the first next gen DBZ game, despite really just being a prettier version of the PS3 version.
Then you also have the quality of the game to thank. We hadn't really had a strong combat focused free roam 3D game since Raging Blast 2 which is probably what most players wanted. Put the new story intrigue together with the pretty good CaC and there were a lot of reasons to pick up this game as opposed to all the rehashes and failed new ideas (for the record I liked Battle of Z but Ultimate Tenkaichi was a complete joke to me, only DBZ game I've ever returned).
I also expect to see Xenoverse 2 sell less. Truth be told the marketing team has not convinced me that they are justifying a whole new game with the content being added in Xenoverse 2, that being said I still think it's going to be a great game and a lot of fun, the improvements made do look good to me.
