Lord Beerus wrote:My theory is that the people cheering on Future Trunks did so with so much conviction they unwitting gave Future Trunks his energy. Remember, according Toriyama, Ki is composed of multiple components: Energy, Courage and Mind. Something that the remaining earthlings and Future Trunks shared immensely in the final battle. And my guess is that it unknowingly leaked out of everyone and then manifested into a massive Genki Dama-esque ball of energy that Future Trunks then absorbed.
My theory is that this also includes cheering from beyond the fourth wall.

It's strange, because its stumbles (no explanation for big events, really important fanservice being incredibly short, retconning DB/Z to suit what they want to do in Super) are what this arc and Super has been doing for its entire runtime. I guess it really hit hard for people this episode because 1. The fanservice moment (Vegetto) was something people have been wanting to see for years and have an emotional connection to and 2. It was the big climax, meaning you had to take it seriously.

Oh, definitely. The characters chanting "GANBARE!" reminded me of a Precure movie, where they actually give the kids little lights and instructions as to when and where to cheer.
I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

Oh wow. That's neat!

That's what you've been doing so why the sudden change?
Dragon ball is littered with plotholes, inconsistencies, retcons, and asspulls so why choose to hate on this particular episode & not the entire franchise?
This is nothing new, especially not in super.
"It's Dragon Ball so everything is fine because the series has had asspulls before" I'm sorry, but no.
I'm not saying it's acceptable. I'm questioning why you aren't consistent with your logic. What's with the selective outrage?

Many DB fans are contradictory on certain issues pertaining to the franchise.

My sentiments exactly.

Who says I've swallowed it before?
I absolutely hate RoF, the SSB concept, and some of the U6 arc, just to say something.

The manga is a different story. I would never say it has a solid plot or that it is consistent, but seeing Toriyama's approach to writing, and how the manga industry in general is, I think it gets the job done.

Because I fail to see why they would do something like this when they literally had other options brought back few episodes ago?

You still like Dragon ball, no? You enjoyed it despite the flaws. You still continue on with Super. That means you're swallowing it to a degree.
but seeing Toriyama's approach to writing, and how the manga industry in general is, I think it gets the job done.
How is Toriyama's approach to writing any better? Doesn't seem that different to me. The manga is faced with the exact same problems as the new stuff. Toriyama even contributes to new plotholes, retcons & asspulls himself.
Because I fail to see why they would do something like this when they literally had other options brought back few episodes ago?
I agree with the criticisms. I just think the overblown outrage is unnecessary. When I watch DB, I don't expect great writing. I turn my brain off & enjoy just like I do with Fairy Tail. It's nothing to get upset over especially since it's been happening & will continue to happen.
