Re: Least favorite characters
Vegeta during the Cell arc is hands-down my least favorite character. There are plenty of characters that I don't particularly like, due to being superfluous to the story or flat-out dull, but Vegeta during this time period is the only one (outside of Broly, but I'm only considering the manga) who actually infuriates me. The worst part of it is, is that I really like Vegeta during the Freeza arc. Sure, he was still a genocidal maniac and all around asshole, but he didn't let every little setback get to him. In the Freeza arc, Vegeta uses every defeat and turns it into an advantage. He practically revels in his defeat on Earth, since it was what granted him the tools to put his rebellion against Freeza into motion, and every setback is no different. After getting his head handed to him, he keeps trucking forward, looking at every tactical advantage he can get.
But in the Cell arc? Every time he loses a fight, he goes into denial, stomps his feet, and generally acts like a little kid who's parents didn't let him have dessert. TFS said it best, I think. "Oh but my pride! Grrr, I wish I were a carrot!" Not only that, but his defeats are usually his own damn fault. He does eventually turn it around in the Boo arc, but damn is he insufferable here.

Re: Least favorite characters
I feel like Cell-saga Vegeta was absolutely necessary to show his development. If Vegeta calmed down and turned "good" so quickly after the defeat of Freeza, it really wouldn't make sense. Vegeta was still an arrogant asshole in the Cell arc and still wanted to defeat/kill Goku, so it makes sense he was the way he was.
7 years later in the Buu arc you can see how toned down he was.

Not to mention Vegeta was already displaying that same kind of behavior during the fight with Freeza. Super Saiyan seriously went to his head.

Re: Least favorite characters
I don't know if I actually hate Vegeta's character in Super, or I just get frustrated that they give him so much prominence despite his character not changing at all since the start of the series. He's the secondary character of the series, but I feel like he doesn't add anything to the story at all except for that thing with Cabba.
I think there's a difference in how they write him. When Vegeta beats up Dodorio or Android 20 or Cell, it doesn't feel like we're supposed to be fully on his side. It feels like he's acting too overconfident and someone's going to have to teach him that. When Vegeta beats up Goku Black, there's none of that. It's just indulgent fanservice and nothing more. There's nothing else to him besides the guy who beats up people while smack-talking. And that's not why I enjoy a character.
I guess there's the whole "he cares about his family" thing, but that was already done in the Buu Saga and it's very predictable. Same with how they seem to be doing it with Gohan.

I could have gotten into anything...and yet I chose the story aimed at young Japanese boys about martial arts, and later about super-powerful aliens punching each other really hard.

Least favourite? The Pilaf gang (not just from Super but from the entire franchise) and Jaco.

Monaka, Broly, Cooler, there a lot of characters that, not that I dislike or hate, but simply do nothing for me.
First place goes to Gohan however, especially his Cell Game incarnation.

To be honest I've despised Vegeta's character ever since the Frieza Arc, he gets infinitely more screentime than he deserves and Super would be greatly improved by removing him.DanielSSJ wrote:Vegeta during the Cell arc is hands-down my least favorite character. Vegeta is a meme by this point, I can't believe we're expected to take him seriously. Any hopes of character development died in the Cell arc, the only noteworthy thing he did since then was the Final Atonement, and even that felt somewhat forced and out of place. I actually started to come around a bit back when he made his Number 1 speech thinking maybe he'd realize the error of his ways, but it seems in Super he's totally regressed and is the same joke of a character he's been since the Androids arc.MozillaVulpix wrote:I don't know if I actually hate Vegeta's character in Super, or I just get frustrated that they give him so much prominence despite his character not changing at all since the start of the series. Re: Least favorite characters
Kami, he literally created the first big villain of the series all because he wanted to be, ironically, the protector of Earth.
He then cowardly let's his evil version run amok and only at the end of the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai, after a bunch of people dying and suffering, he had the decency to ask for someone to kill him.
I think this damaging selfish attitude rubbed off on Goku, since previously to training with Kami he didn't spare anyone for his own amusement.
Then Mr. Toriyama chooses to excuse the character by having Master Roshi - the person who lost his master - give a speech about how Kami is the reason they all met because of the Dragon Balls, bla bla bla...
Kami takes the #1 spot as my least favourite character.
Others I don't quite like, Kibito. He had that sense of superiority towards humans which annoyed me. Although recently, mainly because of the manga, I like him more.

1. Beerus - kind of a douche and has little redeeming qualities. I do not get what's so appealing to him. I keep hoping for the day he gets his clock cleaned and eats humble pie. Whis knocking out at the end of BoG was satisfying, though.
2. Omni King - The most powerful being in the Dragon Ball franchise behaves like a toddler and thinks like one, too. Its like Toriyama and Toei saw Exodus: Gods and Kings and thought "We need that interpretation of God for our supreme being!" and then did it!
3. Mark aka Mr. Satan - my dislike for him started in the Cell Games, its waned over the years. Now its indifference.
4. Bacterian - Do I need to explain? Everything about him is disgusting!
5. Medamatcha - An annoying face-sucker.

Re: Least favorite characters
1. Bardock: Retire. This. Character.
I don't for the life of me understand what bile fascination is with this character. Episode Of Bardock just had to exist, becuase we needed to make Bardock a super special character, right? I mean, we totally needed another Super Saiyan, right? I mean, the Legendary Super Saiyan just had to be directly a relative of Goku, right? Fuuuuuuuuucckkkk that. The amount of powerwanking that Badock has gotten, specifically in Heroes, has been also ludicrous. He was able to take on Super Saiyan 4 Goku, withstood a combined punch from Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta, Xeno Trunks and Piccolo, was able to block a punch from Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta as well and survives a Spirit Bomb produced by with the added powers of Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, Piccolo and Xeno Trunks. I mean... what the fucking fuck!?! Then of course Dragon Ball Minus has to needlessly rewrite established lore and lose the dramatic irony of Goku's entire backstory. But hey, we got to see more Bardock with his lovely wife Gine. So it's not a bad trade-off, right? Ugh.
2. Broly. I find Broly quite overrated and for a good read reason. He really brings nothing to table other than large muscles, loud grunting and spiky hair. And the franchise already has many characters that already fit that criteria but provide more in terms of character and story. I don't think Broly and all fans of Broly should be admonished, but I believe if someone were to say that Broly is the most overrated character in the franchise, they would have a point. This motherfucker is also shoehorned in everything videogame related, more specifically as a hidden extra boss which the started the mentality of Broly being the true final hurdle for you to overcome to complete the game. The he started getting his own forms, with Raging Blast first got the ball rolling by giving him his own Legendary SSJ3. Then Heroes started to give him all the forms a Saiyan could possibly gain, one at a time; Super Saiyan 4 and Golden Great Ape being the highlights. The amount of special treatment he get is only bested by another certain Saiyan who overstayed his welcome.
3. Vegeta (Android/Cell arc incarnation): This incarnation of the character drove me up the fucking wall. DanielSSJ summed it up perfectly.
4. Garlic Jr: I don't hate his arc, per se, well actually, I do hate it but I digress. I appreciate (yeah, there's the right word) this arc because it gives the supporting cast some time in the limelight, but the character itself just never evolves from the movie. Hell, he becomes stupid. And that's what infuriates me the most. He learnt nothing from what happened in the movie and just made it much easier for the heros to defeat him and to ensure he would never appear again. Seriously, what kind of dipshit would reveal the source for how he would escape the Dead Zone in the first place and not expect them to destroy it? What a colossal fucking idiot. And ironically, I'm glad it turned out that way because we'll never have to see his sorry face again.
5. Chiaotzu: I mean, I don't hate him, but good God is he a bore. He just bring nothing to the table.

I don't have a lot of "least favorite" characters, in fact the only one that comes to mind is (fat) Buu. Especially in Super. His childlike dickishness has flown to astronomic levels of annoyance. I'm glad he's not being utilize much.

Re: Least favorite characters
Bulma - I love how out of the entire cast who DOESN'T fight, she contributes the most, but her personality could REALLY use some work.
Beerus - I'm not a big fan of how of a jerkass he can be. Not to mention, his treatment of Vegeta in Super is freaking unfounded at this point. I REALLY hope someone kicks his ass soon. Aside from stopping Present Zamasu from carrying out his plans, I can't say I'm a fan of how he and Whis just...eat.
Videl (Great Saiyaman arc) - Videl was TOO bitchy for my liking during that arc. I understand she was quite suspicious of Gohan, but I personally feel like Gohan didn't deserve most of that treatment he kept getting from her.
Gohan (Great Saiyaman arc) - Gohan lost quite a bit of brownie points with me in this arc following the Cell Games for being such a pushover when it came to Videl and high school in general, and the whole Great Saiyaman shtick. and only barely got some back in the Super Buu arc, following the unlocking of the Ultimate (Mystic) form.
Vegeta (Androids/Cell arc) - DanielSSJ summed everything up PERFECTLY on why I DESPISED Vegeta ruing this arc.
Chi-Chi - I mean, it kind of goes without saying why, right?
Pan (DBGT) - Hands down, THE most annoying character of DBGT as a whole. She's practically Chi-Chi, Bulma, and Videl (Great Saiyaman arc) all rolled into one, with some of Hercule thrown in. Honestly, she was nothing more than a bratty half-pint who ALWAYS in over her head. I PRAY Dragon Ball Super completely redoes her personality and doesn't make her an Expy of the above aforementioned characters.
Emperor Pilaf - I just hate him so much. I'm OK with Mai and Shu, though.
Goku (Super) - His personality is INSUFFERABLE to me. I understand that he's supposed to LOVE fighting, but TOEI swung in that direction WAAAY too far. I enjoy him more in the manga to be honest (Not counting a few instances here and there where he acts like a TOTAL jerkass)
Fat Buu - After his story arc, his childish dickery has SKYROCKETED. He's probably WORSE than Beerus in that regard. Out of all of the active, fighting members of the Dragon Team, I'm almost RELIEVED to see him not appear in Super often.

Re: Least favorite characters
I can't say that I disagree with you, but I was mainly taking the original manga into consideration and not much else (hence why Broly isn't in this spot). I agree 100% about how the writers seemed to have forgotten his "You are Number One" speech at the end of the Boo arc, which is especially sad for me because that's my favorite scene in the entire arc. Now I'm not saying that I would expect Vegeta to just give up, but I interpreted that scene as Vegeta letting go of the rest of the hostility and opening an avenue for him and Goku to become friendly if still very competitive rivals. But nope, Vegeta still has his superiority/inferiority complex when it comes to Goku.TheUltimateNinja wrote:*snip*
I think Super would be greatly improved if they dialed back both Vegeta and Goku quite a bit and let someone else get some screen time. It was nice that Trunks was the focus of this last arc, but it still very much feels like the Goku and Vegeta show. Before is was "Goku and all of his friends with varying levels of relevance", and Vegeta was just that one evil asshole who was nominally on their side. Now it's just "Goku and Vegeta and maybe someone else will do something important but probably not".

When Bulma is written well, she's a great character. I don't know why people would dislike her outside of the moments she's written to be annoying like on Namek or in the General Blue arc.

I second that notion. Bulma isn't necessarily a bad character (most of the time), but the times where she isn't, she REALLY needs to tone down her brashness and cockiness.kinisking wrote:I don't dislike her but I would like her a whole lot more if she was less brash.precita wrote:When Bulma is written well, she's a great character. Gotenks, Goten, and Kid Trunks- They annoy me a lot. I didn't like how OP they were, and I felt that they just wasted my time.
Pilaf gang- they did waste my time.
