Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I think the DB fanbase has a lot of posers, close minded people, and blind by nostalgia guys that only watched DB 10 years ago, and, since then, they just watch some clips on youtube like the gohan ssj 2 transformation and think every episode had perfect animation
when i say poser i mean someone that thinks he's a true DB fan, but only watched some episodes on tv years ago, with the the funimation dub (i love the funimation dub, don't get me wrong, but they changed a lot of things, and people tend to use it as an argument, like the goku and chichi kiss, its a dub only thing, is not even in the manga, neither in the japanese version)
by close minded people i mean people that blindly hate every new thing in the db series, like the transformations, the story, etc
don't get me wrong, i think DBS has a lot of problems, but i don't think is bad, i respect different opinions but what i don't like is uninformed people, that never even readed the manga, etc
Like hating on the episode 69 cause is pure comedy, and they forgot the first 15 volumes were comedy too
I hope no one calls me a supertard, but i hate people that complain about everything in super and even kai, and don't even know dragon ball that well
Super has some bad things, but it has great things too, z was much better, but was not perfect like people tend to think, i've readed the manga again some months ago, and i'm currently watching z again, the animation is better, but is not always great, the music is the only perfect thing here, lol
I'm probably being hypocritical fanboy or irrational
sorry if i've spelled something wrong, i'm not a native english speaker

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Fair points I'd say for the most part. Thing is, those people exist in EVERY fanbase for EVERYTHING on Earth. TV, Movies, Sports, etc. there will always be people who either claim that the past was 20x better for whatever reason or pretend to know a lot when they really don't, or in some cases both.ExtremeJiangBr wrote:I think the DB fanbase has a lot of posers, close minded people, and blind by nostalgia guys that only watched DB 10 years ago, and, since then, they just watch some clips on youtube like the gohan ssj 2 transformation and think every episode had perfect animation

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I used to think that way, and there are definitely certain unsavory traits exclusive to the Dragon Ball fandom, but I don't think it's much worse than other fandoms for popular shows.
The same issues that I once thought exclusive to Dragon Ball fans were found in One Piece's, Naruto's, and even fandoms for shows aimed at otaku.
There's never going to be an even playing field of knowledge in any place in life. That can be frustrating, but the only advice I can offer is to aim to inform, rather than complain or lament over the situation.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
We argue, that's about it.
There are far more immature fandoms such as the Vocaloid fandom that will really make you feel better about being a DB fan.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I think it's too large of a fanbase to classify it on the whole. Even splitting it into sub and dub doesn't fully work because different websites culminate in different niches within the fanbase. Like Kanzenshuu vs YouTube vs Reddit vs other db communities. (And then there's the fact that there's so many dubs across the world and multiple dubs in a single language).
Then there's people who are good with Gokû and Vegeta vs who want a next gen cast with Uub and Pan vs those who what more Gohan vs those who want more Yamcha and Tenshinhan vs those who want a DBHeroes show or a brand new cast entirely.
In terms of how bad or good the base is; it's so big and varied I'd put it at neutral. I've seen way worse fanbases.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I just assume any fanbase is like this. This one is the only one I hang around online, so I wouldn't know, say, what the One piece Fanbase is like. But It probably has just as many bad eggs as the Dragonball one.
But I've seen peeks of some really bad stuff from other fanbases. So all things considered The Dragonball one is actually pretty tame. Just a bit of arguing maybe.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Only in power level squabbles are we like, the absolute worst. When it comes to debates between universes, Dragon Ball is probably the most wanked by its fans of all series ever. I've never seen anything close to it. On an overall level, we're not that bad. It's really only that one aspect. We don't even come close to the badness of things like the Sonic or MLP franchises...which you can't even google anymore...and have some of the darkest fandom tales of all time.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
Spoiler:
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Certain fringe parts of the fanbase, yes. Not all though.
Power level obessessives and the ones who judge the cast's worth entirely on how hard they can punch another character are personal pet peeves but I know everyone likes different aspects of the series. Kanzenshuu seems to avoid a lot of those stereotypes though on the whole.
If you want a real bad fanbase; Steven Universe's once almost drove a fan artist to suicide because she drew Rose Quartz too skinny.
Or Sonic the Hedgehog's fanbase which has so many cringey examples it's almost a parody fanbase.
Or Super Smash Bros. which unfortunately has the problem of being several fanbases thrown together(including Sonic!) which makes roster speculation unneccesarily aggressive.
Comparitively Dragonball's bad fanbase aspects are small potatoes.

"Fuck."
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
Kanzenshuu has totally skewed any perspective I could have on the matter. At least around here, it's a fanbase that's largely so reasonable and able to bring proper context and perspective to the series that any time I make fun of it, it's light-hearted and good-natured rather than out of genuine frustration and disappointment.
Which could so, so easily not be the case. You ever try to talk about Godzilla online? Jesus Christ.

Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
I think some of you need to realize any fandom is going to have debates over which character is better, which saga/season is better, which arc was the best, what villain they like best, etc....this is the same for any franchise. Everyone has a different favorite main character, everyone has a different favorite part of the show, etc.
Its funny before anime became mainstream in the west, the original "terrible fandoms" were considered the Star Trek and Star Wars fandoms, especially back in the 80's and 90's. Its because of anime fans nobody cares about "Trekkies" anymore, and Star Wars nerds used to be laughed at. God I feel old saying this.

Wasn't that not the SU fandom though, and instead SJW's within the SU fandom?Akyon wrote: If you want a real bad fanbase; Steven Universe's once almost drove a fan artist to suicide because she drew Rose Quartz too skinny.
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
While SU has fallen into the Naruto category of "show I stopped watching a while ago
I just couldn't buy that Peridot would turn on Yellow Diamond that fast/easily. It felt too much like plot mechanization instead of natural character development, imo. It felt like an ooc moment just to quickly get her on Steven's side permanently and left me thinking they valued the plot they wanted to tell above if the characters had progressed to a believable place for that development. Vegeta is a more natural way to develop a former villain turned antihero to me.
If they'd taken their time it wouldn't have taken me out of it.
, but will read about the ending/series finale when it happens." but from what I've seen there's a toxic strain in there that isn't present in Dragon Ball fandom which is why I never joined it back when I was watching it.

A lot of them are bad (and you know who...) but not all of them.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
There is zero doubt that certain aspects of the fan base really get under my skin, but I do have to agree that part of the issue can be attributed to sheer popularity alone. I suppose I can't say too much in that regard though, since I'm not exactly active in many other anime communities. Still, I've met too many wonderful people here. I can never stay too mad for long! Most of the time.

I'm an open-minded kind of person and will always love DragonBall, no matter what. I love Xenoverse 2 and the Future Trunks arc, and I think that they are masterpieces.
Opinions matter. DragonBall fans depend on the person.

It's not even the third worst fandom I'm a part of... and I'd only classify myself as part of four or five. I'd say no.

Herms wrote:The fact that the ridiculous power inflation is presented so earnestly makes me just roll my eyes and snicker. Like with Freeza, where he starts off over 10 times stronger than all his henchmen except Ginyu (because...well, just because), then we find out he can transform and get even more powerful, and then he reveals he can transform two more times, before finally coming out with the fact that he hasn't even been using anywhere near 50% of his power. Oh, and he can survive in the vacuum of space. All this stuff is just presented as the way Freeza is, without even an attempt at rationalizing it, yet the tone dictates we're supposed to take all this silly grasping at straws as thrilling danger. So I guess I don't really take the power inflation in the Boo arc seriously, but I don't take the power inflation in earlier arcs seriously either, so there's no net loss of seriousness. I think a silly story presented as serious is harder to accept than a silly story presented as silly.
Re: Do you think the Dragon Ball fanbase is bad?
On the bright side the Dragonball fandom doesn't really have any shipping wars since it has characters married in established couples. Other fandoms literally deal with years of people angrily debating which female character should wind up with who. And they nearly kill each other over it.
In Dragonball since each major character is paired up and married in canon, there's not much to talk about in terms of ships. Trunks/Mai is the only new thing we've gotten.

I don't like the snobbery that goes on, not even in the dub vs sub sphere, but also in the people who fight over which dub is better, which score is better, which series is better, etc.
Apart from that I think this fandom is incredible when everyone makes an effort to get along and respect one another's opinions.

It's okay, for the most part. There are a lot of gross people ("why doesnt nozawa die so we can have a proper jap goku ?"- Random ass YouTube comment) and some people wank the characters, but that's every fandom. But compared to fandoms like Sonic, MLP, SU and most anime's fandom in general, we're fucking saints.
