Final Thoughts on DB Super not on kids network
So yeah, it's been confirmed that Dragon Ball Super will be airing on Toonami along with Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters. And to sum up my thoughts: I'm actually perfectly okay with this. For the longest, I've been saying that Super should air on Toonami AND A KIDS NETWORK. However, for now - Only Toonami will be getting it. That being said, Toonami also announced Super will air at 8pm FIRST. This satisfies me because when I was a kid - I watched Naruto from 9-10pm on Saturdays. So, now - A new generation of kids can get the same experience an hour earlier and NO PARENT can complain, "The show said Mr. Satan and Hell" because the show will be airing on Adult Swim - which gives Super a get-out-of-jail free card.
Also, many purist fans will probably say Dragon Ball is not meant for kids outside Japan anyway and it might be nice that we get to see it UNCUT in the same way Japanese children get to. It's also PERFECT because Super is meant for old and new fans, but recaps the Buu Saga (which kids can now watch with Kai). Well, now - Kids (as well as new fans) can stay up OR record the series to watch it the next day if they don't end up watching it at midnight. This is perfect because now they'll experience the Buu Saga and have a better understanding of it while simultaneously watching Dragon Ball Super.
So, basically - I'm on board the Toonami hype train now and it's especially nice seeing everyone's childhood returning. Still, I'm not changing my thoughts. I said it'd be nice for Super to air on both Toonami and a kids network, which I speculated to be Nickelodeon (although I admitted Nick has cringe content). However, now that we have the basic cable confirmation well out of the way - It's possible that in the future, Super could air on Disney XD like Kai aired on Nicktoons and Toonzai - especially since Geekdom has mentioned an edited Super dub exists and can be used in the future (unless it's used for the 8pm airing, which I doubt but who knows). However, it's probably for the best we keep it on Toonami for consistency and simplicity.
Still, with the toy deal - It's jarring that Super will not be on a kids channel after all (which is why Disney XD seems like a nice fit since it has Beyblade, which does have a toyline). Also, it will only be airing twice a week instead of what a channel like Disney XD might've been able to do. However, I'm glad it will be airing ONE MORE TIME than I originally thought it would be airing so I'm still HYPED right now. 2017 will be the year of Dragon Ball in North America and I can't wait!!!
EDIT: I posted this on my original "Perhaps Toonami?" thread, but figured it might be better to just make a WHOLE new thread so the topic isn't easily glossed over due to already having 10 replies and being an old thread. So, I apologize for this and my abundance of threads discussing this topic over the past months.

I wasn't expecting it to be that early! I've said this before, but since its at 7:00 CST, kids would watch it probably! And maybe Cartoon Network could sneak in some pornos of stuff like Dragon Ball Fusions, Dragon Ball Z Dokkan Battle or the Super toyline during the day.

REALLY!? That's a typo? I know he probably did make a typo trying to type "Promos" but its so ridiculous its funny.LOL.
Also I'm glad Adult Swim has the license, they outdo Disney XD,Nicktoons AND Cartoon Network!

I didn't even catch the typo at first. What up, Cure? How do you feel about Super not being on a kids network? Me and you have pretty much been discussing the kids network thing across different threads (many of which I myself made) for a while now. Personally, I share the same thoughts as you - At this point (especially after hearing Sabat describe the insane edits), I feel Toonami is the perfect place to air it since they'll show it at 8pm first and many younger viewers will still tune in.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:REALLY!? However, I still wouldn't mind if Super aired on Disney XD in the future (if possible). I know everyone is on the Toonami hype train, but since Kai was able to end up airing on three different networks over its history (Nicktoons, CW4Kids' Toonzai, Adult Swim's Toonami) - Who's to say it won't eventually end up on Disney XD someday? Perhaps, late 2017 or even 2018? We'll see. But for now, I'm fully content with the Toonami reveal (especially since I've been hyped for Kai's Buu Saga even more than Super and now I get both).

Re: Final Thoughts on DB Super not on kids network
Well, I'm sad Main Nick didnt get it, because they really need an action cartoon, especially now with rumors of TMNT ending. I would have LOVED IT if it aired next to The Loud House or Henry Danger which are literally the hottest shows on Kids TV right now. Ratings wise, quality wise only The Loud House holds up.
But,like I said, I'm glad that its on a network that EASILY outdoes Disney XD,Nicktoons and Cartoon Network.
I hate to say this but I have to remind you that the Cable rights are unique, so no airing on any other cable channel even a kids one. Sigh, I REALLY miss Toonzai/Vortexx. Especially now that The Flash and Arrow are doing gangbusters! We could have seen a major boost with Justice League Unlimited or Justice League Action even!

Thankfully it's been given an accessible timeslot, though my preference would always be for Dragon Ball to air on kids' blocks.

Glad to hear, maybe we can see some actual blood now.
Re: Final Thoughts on DB Super not on kids network
Same, glad there's fellow fans who understand this. Dragon Ball is the kind of anime that should be accessible for everyone. I had such a great time for Dragon Ball Z/Kai as a kid on KIDS networks, but until (if ever) Super airs on a legit kids network - I'm content with Super still being accessible to the Cartoon Network kids crowd who are transitioning to Adult Swim. Besides, CN might unintentionally help Super by airing Teen Titans Go and then bring a new audience to Super. I'd laugh my ass off if that's the case. For once, TTG would be good for something.Cipher wrote:Thankfully it's been given an accessible timeslot, though my preference would always be for Dragon Ball to air on kids' blocks.
Also, if Super gets a lot of ratings on Adult Swim - Maybe Adult Swim will get the whole 8-9pm slot for Super OR maybe Toonami will be extended from 8pm - 1am or something like that to make it even more accessible to younger viewers who don't plan to stay up past midnight. Who knows? Still, the whole kids toyline thing makes me suspect Super's chances of a kids channel aren't entirely finished yet. That is, unless Adult Swim airs an edited version at 8pm (which I doubt, but who knows) where they could air kids commercials?

I think Seth McFarlane shows do much better than anything on Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, And the biggest night's Toonami has are when Family Guy airs right next to it. I will swallow my pride and say Toonami does owe a lot to Family Guy.

8:00 PM on Saturdays is not too late for kids. Kids don't have school and they can stay up late to watch TV shows. When I was a kid, I stay up late to watch TV and play video games.

8 isn't late at all so I don't see what the issue is with it.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Well i watch Family Guy to have the channel on when Toonami comes on so maybe it works both ways a bit.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:I think Seth McFarlane shows do much better than anything on Adult Swim and Cartoon Network, And the biggest night's Toonami has are when Family Guy airs right next to it. True True. Toonami is awesome, and its amazing how it thrives in an era where even Nick and Disney struggle.
