This theory explains everything perfectly, so it's most likely the intended case..
So I will go with what you said, even trunks has a voice change for a bit, it's definitely there for dramatic effect..
Vegetto killed his mortal half, zamasu was weak, trunks cut him, and this is the reason
only Zamasu's face covered the sky, not merged Zamasu's..

Because merged zamasu was dead. And f. zamasu is immortal.Trunks killed merged zamasu and Zeno killed F. Zamasu. This is Literally what the show tells us.

Just because something isn't spoon-fed doesn't mean it's poorly written. That's kinda backwards.

This wouldn't be evidence of anything even if what you are saying is true(don't feel like checking for such a trivial detail that wasn't even a thought in the minds of Toei).

But if you do that often enough then it is

It's a good theory but It's unlikely to be true, first of all, since the moment Goku and Vegeta fuse Zamasu's voice is different, also, If he actually killed Black, Zamasu shouldn't be able to use that pink ki sword, the potara fusion isn't half Black and half Zamasu, it's the creation of a new being with habilities from both Black and Zamasu, so Black's half can't die, or that's how I see it.

I just want to point out it has nothing to do with why only Zamasu appeared in the sky.
Once the body died only the immortal soul could survive. Whether Black died from the Final Kamehameha or the sword slash only Zamasu would have been in the sky.

As already said by other guys, Black and Zamasu merged into one. Their body were just separated because of the mortal and immortal contradiction. When Black and Future Zamasu fused, their power merged and become many times greater, their mind become one, etc, etc. Hence why Zamasu still have Black's memory and can use his technique even after Goku ''killed'' the Black part Zamasu.
Likewise, Future Zamasu and Black's body were separated because of the mortal and immortal body contradiction. Black was gone for good after Trunks sliced them in half. But the Future Zamasu part survived because of the immortality, which is why the face of the Future Zamasu was the one that was shown when he's trying to become one with the universe

It was still present after that. Most notably when Zamasu explains to Vegetto why he took over Goku's body.

Interesting theory. I see the pros of it (Zamasu's echo voice disappearing) and the cons (Black Rose/F. Zamasu were already dead once they fused). Though question (and this may throw the thread off topic a bit, I apologize): If the fusees "cease to exist" once the fusion is completed, doesn't the fusion of Kibito and Kaioshin contradict that notion? Because if Kaioshin "ceased to exist" then technically the same should have happened to Beerus, but he was still fine AND Kibito Kaioshin was fused while watching Beerus and Goku fight. Guess that's just another retcon
Super threw in there.

Seems like wishful thinking to me.
Also, Zamasu didn't got weak, he got slower due to becoming huge. He had no issues block Vegetto's punches and even tanked the final kameha without even a need to regenerate.
