"Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" FUNimation English Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread

It's curious how this still has not appeared in any tv guides. This one, for example, shows One Punch Man airing at midnight instead of The Final Chapters. I obviously know that the listing is wrong, but I'm just curious to see how they'll show the listing. Will they continue to refer to it as just "Dragon Ball Z Kai", or will they include "The Final Chapters" as part of the title? Will they refer to the premiere as episode 1 or episode 99 (I know Funimation will probably go with episode 99, but I'm just curious to see what the networks will do)?

Honesty Funimation's the one up in the air at the moment as they have still neither updated the old Kai site or show page nor created new ones for Buu .At least none that I can find
Hell the dedicated Kai site hasn't been updated in so long that I've seen Dragon box ads on it before

It looked completely gone in the Super promo when they flash backed to Majin Buu being defeated but yeah the Kai promo definitely looked better then that clip FUNi released but I think it maybe down to whoever cut the promo since the actual clip has the tint.

Its pretty surreal to think just a few weeks back the lack of promotional material or official word on Kai was starting to worry some of us but now I can see saturday/sundays being a blast for us Dragon Ball fans with a new dubbed Kai episode as well as two helpings of Super (dub and sub).

2017 will truly be the western world's Dragon Ball resurgence in full swing.

January 7th appears to be up to date on AT&T's Uverse service
Super shows up in both the 8PM and 11:30 slots, albeit with no episode description yet or even a preview image
Same with Gundam Unicorn

Interestingly, Kai still shows up as the same series, with the series recording I'd already set up carrying over
Maybe they had guides keep it the same for the sake of series recordings (And as a result ratings purposes)?

Yep the television guides have finally updated! The Optimum tv guide calls it "Dragon Ball Z Kai: The Final Chapters" but refers to it as "Season 5, Episode 1", with the episode title being "Seven Years Later! Starting Today, Gohan Is a High School Student". The Zap2it tv listing also shows the exact same thing.

So based on that, it's definitely being referred to as "The Final Chapters". However, it's also considered part of the same show and so it's being called "Season 5". And from that, I'm going to predict that the episode numbering by Funimation will continue with episode 99.

I'm 99.9999999999% sure that's just a coincidence, but it'd be hilarious if FUNimation purposefully waited this long for that exact reason. Now people can say that Dragon Ball unfolded in real-time.

Episode 98 aired on Nicktoons on February 8, 2013, so only about 4 years ago. But yeah, it's been a long time. I remember how excruciatingly long it felt to wait for "Season 3" of DBZ back in 1999. Even though it was only 1.3ish years of waiting, it felt much longer.

But this.....this took nearly 4 years. That's just crazy. I can't imagine what it must be like for the generation that grew up on Kai to have to wait so many years to watch new episodes. And amidst all of that, Funimation never said a damn thing about whether it would even air. People were even theorizing that it had been cancelled . But here we are, with just over a week to go, with 1 promo, 1 preview clip, and 1 television listing in the bank. Now all that's left is the premiere episode (and maybe another promo).

Honestly, I would be surprised if the official Kai site ever gets updated (it currently only has episodes listed up to 52 & home release listings up to part 6). On the other hand, funimation.com/dragonballzkai is the site I'd keep an eye on. Right now it says there are 98 episodes and also has trailers & product listings for the DVD/Blu-ray sets. I'd bet on that one potentially being updated with new trailers and home release listings. The Adult Swim site might also get some new artwork for their banner if we're lucky.

On Comcast, Final Chapters is a separate series and its Season 5 Episode 1 and 2. There is currently no poster unlike Kai 98 and Super

S5E1: "Seven Years Later! Starting Today, Gohan Is a High School Student."

S5E2: "An New Hero, Great Saiyaman, Is Born!"

And both episode descriptions and series description is: The Z Fighters reunite for the World Martial Arts Tournament.

Also, the AdultSwim Kai site says that the next showing will be January 8th at 12:00am, which seems to indicate that The Final Chapters will not get its own page and will instead continue to use the existing Kai page.

Hmm, that one is very similar. But the light surrounding background Vegeta is drawn a bit differently. I dunno where the original art is from though.

So Wikipedia's list of Kai episodes is already on-track to becoming a total mess. The editors are now adding the Final Chapters dub titles onto the Japanese version's episodes, and no one seems to either have an idea of how to handle there being two different versions or are even aware there are two different versions.

Guess we'll see how this plays out.
