Moments that had made you cry.
To a scale of 1 to 10, which moments in the series made you cry more and why?
Re: Moments that had made you cry.
I've never "literally" cried while watching the series, although Vegeta's deaths (both times) made me quite sad. Its amazing how Vegeta had the two most impactful deaths of the series. When Goku died we immediately saw him in the afterlife so his "death" didn't feel like he went away, and pretty much the same at the end of the Cell saga because we saw him dead after.
But Vegeta was gone from the series for a while until revived. They didn't show him in any of the Namek episodes till he came back to life, and he was also absent for a good chunk of the later Buu arc.

Re: Moments that had made you cry.
The most emotional pull that I've ever had from the series was when I was watching the final episode of Z on Toonami and I knew it was the end. Yeah, GT was coming, but it felt like the end of a long journey. I followed DBZ since it was in syndication. I saw every episode on Toonami over and over and over again. Z-Day, Midnight Run, Rising Sun, the Saturday run. I watched Dragon Ball on Toonami, etc. I recorded every episode on my VCR and must have watched them so many times, that the tapes must have been tissue thin. I'll never forget 9/11 happening a few episodes into the Other World Tournament arc, so I lived through the most significant and historic event in my lifetime with DBZ. Something about watching that last episode brought out some strong emotion. I didn't physically cry, but after the episode was over, it was this strange moment of silence where I almost said my goodbyes to the series. Little did I know that I'd experience so much more with the series through the games, getting the releases, watching the Japanese version, and getting into the manga.
Another emotional moment that I has was in 2005 or 2006. At that point, I collected a couple of boxed sets of Z, but stopped. I hadn't seen DBZ in a while and caught it on a Saturday (and Toonami looked really weird since the last time that I saw it). It was the episode where Tenshinhan, Kuririn, and Piccolo were looking for Cell. The episode itself wasn't anything special, but I told myself that I freaking love this series and I will finish collecting every episode of it -- and I did, many times over.

Re: Moments that had made you cry.
Nothing made me "cry" but Vegeta's 2 deaths, Goku's death against Cell & Piccolo saving Gohan from Nappa were very sad moments for me.
The saddest moment for me before Super wasn't a particular scene but the whole Buu arc cause the longer it went on, the closer it got to the end, the end of Goku's adventure that I experienced with him from the time he was a little kid playing in the woods till he saved the entire universe.
I'll probably feel the same way now even though Toriyama is writing more stories cause for the longest time, DB was always Pilaf-Buu so it's going to take some time to adjust from that to Pilaf - whoever's Super's last villain.

The only legit moment that managed to get a tear out of me is trunks goodbye in super

Re: Moments that had made you cry.
The closest I ever came to shedding a tear was when I first saw Piccolo's sacrifice in Japanese. After embarking on my journey to watch the entire series start to finish in Japanese, the scene had such a stronger impact than I thought it would. I legit got sad for a minute or so.

I wasnt affected the first time I watched them but Karin telling Roshi is dead and the final battle between Goku and Krillin in GT are major tearjerkers for me now. Both 10/10.

I genuinely shed a tear when Merged Zamasu cried. He was monster that annihlated countless innocents and destroyed many planets, yet in that single moment i felt sorry for him. In his twisted ideals of an utopian world, he was unable to realize he had become just as violent as the mortals he swore to destroy. He still deluded himself all that destruction was for the Universe. What makes Zamasu much more tragic than villains like Frieza, Cell and Buu is his inability to see what he had become, to realize he is the evil one. He believed all he was doing was for the Gods, but he couldn't realize he had become a lunatic and nothing more. I wouldn't say that moment made me cry, but it sure made me really sad.

The closest I've come to crying is when Future Gohan died and Future Trunks turns SSJ for the 1st time.

It's a shame I can't see Dragon Ball having the same emotional impact on me ever again.

Re: Moments that had made you cry.
The final episode of the Future Trunks arc got some tears out of me. More specifically when Gohan wished Future Trunks well and then remembered the Gohan that he knew in his timeline in retrospect.
I had a huge lump in my throat when Vegeta killed himself in the Majin Boo arc and in the ending montage of the final episode of GT.

Re: Moments that had made you cry.
I came close when Gokû temporarily lost his powers in 43 of Super and they were searching for Pan and he started to panic because he couldn't fly or sense her ki.
On hiatus.
Re: Moments that had made you cry.
The first time I watched the original Japanese version of Piccolo's death in the Saiyan arc. I had never seen it before and I didn't know what to expect going in. This was back in 2012, so I was a bit younger and hadn't seen much of the original version.
Re: Moments that had made you cry.
Dragonball's never really had an emotional moment like that for me. Nothing that compared to the burning of Merry in One Piece even. That's right; a ship 'dying' is sadder to me than anything Dragonball has ever offered.
I suppose Piccolo sacrificing himself for Gohan was sad, but I wasn't quite verging on tears. It did mean the Dragonballs were useless, but that Vegeta had already suggested other Namekians could have their own set meant that we still had a hope slot open.
Krillin's death at the hands of Frieza, despite being my favourite character and at that time knowing he couldn't come back, didn't make me cry, it just left me stunned and shocked.
After the Frieza saga death has become so cheap I barely batter an eyelid if a character dies anymore. Really takes the stake level down a bit and it's one of Dragonball's biggest flaws.

Hate to get off topic, but I've never really teared up watching One Piece. I did get misty eyed when Robin declared she wanted to live and when Ace died.

Re: Moments that had made you cry.
None because I'm heartless... but Future Gohan and #16's deaths in particular touched me mainly because unlike most deaths in the series where the drama is undermined due to the dragon balls... they're deaths are permanent.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.
