Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Announcement and Discussion Thread
I gotta say, it brought a huge smile on my face when I heard Super's intro in Japanese last night and the ending theme too! That's how you do it FUNi. Just leave the opening/ending themes alone.
Is Goten's voice actor the same as in DBZ cause his voice is just awful. I believe it's the same as in Xenoverse too right?
Overall, not bad but damn it Toonami , can we have the eye catches and previews at least? Damn time restraints.

Here's the ADR Approvals credit that I was talking about

Also, it looks like Toei Animation's president is executive producing the dub with Gen Fukunaga

This tells me that this is very much the dub Toei will consider "the dub" seeing as they don't seem to have this level of control over Bang Zoom's. It reminds me of how the companies behind Doraemon had control over the dub for the 2005 series and had the dub be the global standard but the UK still had a different dub for certain reasons. Like, I've seen them be very involved in the One Piece dub but in there they only control the final casting decisions and provide the translations because of the simulcast. They don't approve ADR changes or Executive Produce that dub despite being involved in it so it's weird to see them doing it now but this is a big series so they probably want it to launch successfully and as stated before, have the dub be the global standard for the English dub of the show except for the countries that can't get it for whatever reason

Pretty interesting! Perhaps that's why the dub took so long to get out. As I know FUNi's release of Eva 3 was delayed because they were working closely with the Japanese company.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Here's the ADR Approvals credit that I was talking about

That could very well be the case even though Bang Zoom's didn't get the treatmentBaggie_Saiyan wrote:Pretty interesting! Perhaps that's why the dub took so long to get out. I know that piracy is against the rules of this community, but I really, really want to see the English dubbed episodes. Unfortunately, they aren't airing in India any time soon.
I can easily find the Sub episodes on YouTube, so it's strange that for some reason I absolutely cannot find the Dub.
So I'd appreciate if someone could just tell me if there are any dub changes.
Because I've heard rumors that the timeskip, as in the time that has passed since the defeat of Majin Buu is different according to the dub.

Same old stuff, they changed the time skip line from "some time passed" to "a few months passed". Although if in some hypothetical universe, you did want to see the dub, it isn't hard to find online.DBZ Macky wrote:I know that piracy is against the rules of this community, but I really, really want to see the English dubbed episodes. Have not seen the dub yet but as far as I'm aware is not that drastic, in the JPN it was "Some time later" and in the dub it was "several months later" both pretty much the same thing really.DBZ Macky wrote:I know that piracy is against the rules of this community, but I really, really want to see the English dubbed episodes. I think they already were working closely with FUNi and just commissioned BZ to supply a dub for Asia remember the BZ Dub was supposed to air in July.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:That could very well be the case even though Bang Zoom's didn't get the treatmentBaggie_Saiyan wrote:Pretty interesting! Loved Funi's version and loved how the dialogues were not direct translations but instead adaptations of the Japanese version.
I hope the second dub is that good too

Goten is alright
I could've sworn that Trunks got a new voice
Buu is awesome
Mr Satan is still the best

I'm still very curious about something. Why is it that FUNimation uses "Mr. Satan" in their uncut dubs, but "Hercule" in their video game dubs (which are obviously uncut)? It's always striked me as odd.
Also, they said "Mr. Satan" repeatedly this episode, which kinda annoyed me.

That's quite interesting, actually... though not altogether surprising. FUNimation's Dragon Ball in North America is quite profitable, so it stands to reason TOEI would take a vested interest. Out of curiosity I watched the episode, and I'd say this probably also explains the accuracy of the script... save for just a couple of subtle changes. I mean, it's basically 1:1 in some cases... although I've been out of the loop on FUNimation's recent productions so maybe it's just how they do things now.VejituhTheWarriorGuy wrote:Here's the ADR Approvals credit that I was talking about

Finally caught the dub and it was pretty great, Goten and ChiChi sounded fine to me, Sean continues to kill it as Goku. Can't wait to see what Sabat does next week!

Doing accurate translations has been Funimation's standard operating procedure for non-Dragon Ball products since, like, 2005 (and since Kai for Dragon Ball stuff, so roughly 2010 there).Thanos wrote:That's quite interesting, actually... though not altogether surprising. Sean hit it out of the park, just like he always does.
Goten and Chi-Chi were fine, great episode.

I don't think Funimation makes that choice for the games; Namco Bandai doesAnime Kitten wrote:I'm still very curious about something. Why is it that FUNimation uses "Mr. Satan" in their uncut dubs, but "Hercule" in their video game dubs (which are obviously uncut)? It's always striked me as odd.

I think he's just being a troll. I got a penguintruth vibe off of him which ironically enough he praised Schemmel in this episode on his Twitter.precita wrote:How is Schemmel a terrible actor?Draconic wrote:I really don't know why I checked this out...
