I wonder if they'd have Chichi try to go after Piccolo, with him desperately trying to explain just why that woouldn't work.Gog wrote:Yeah the divorce bit was a bit tad depressing, I hope they use that so Goku can hook up with the perfect love of his life CellDanielSSJ wrote:I gotta say that I loved the "He's so cool but so dumb" bit from Vegeta. Same here. I'm kinda fearing how they'll handle Gohan and Chi-Chi's reaction to Goku coming back in the Buu Saga. As both of them will probaly hate Goku after CellGog wrote:Yeah the divorce bit was a bit tad depressingDanielSSJ wrote:I gotta say that I loved the "He's so cool but so dumb" bit from Vegeta. But think about it, without Chi Chi, Goku has no reason to go after the true love of his life cell. It'll also finally justify the reason why I ship the two, after the episode where Cell reveals his affection.Dbzfan94 wrote:Same here. Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
They said in the Q&A stream last night that the divorce isn't going to carry over to the main series because the movies aren't cannon to the episodes.
My guess is maybe it'll carry over to the rest of the movies though?

Naw, the divorce thing won't carry on. At the very worst, they'll have worked it out in the next films, and it's not canon to the show.
Also, the "This is the worst bit" is a combination of us trashing Broly and the characters complaining about the beating. It's a little heavy handed, yes, but we get a little more... blunt in the films.

Done intentionally as a point of comedy. It's one that's most iconic to the movie, so we cut to Broly just grabbing his head because we thought that was way more surprising.jcogginsa wrote:Loved it. My only real disapointment was that you cut out the "Broly walks through the Kamehameha" scene

They change things all the time if they think it will be funnier/better. A good recent example of adding things without the objective of making them funnier was the inclusion of the video of Gero's son. Also, the interpretation I offered is already a possible, logical, interpretation from the actual movie, imo. Like I said, I think they missed a chance.TKA wrote:I don't think it's TFS' prerogative to fix Toei's inept writing.
Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
For me, the best parts of this special were the ones with Trunks. Especially that bit where Broly said Trunks lied to him. Trunks sounded like he was about to pee his pants
Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
In the example of the possible dialog I offered, those concerns are already addressed with Vegeta stating that that interpretation is only trying to make Broly look cooler.Deathbringer wrote:So you say, but it feels more like you're just trying to fix the problems that the movie has, which is fine but it doesn't stop the movie itself from not giving a real explanation to why Broly hates Goku and the one they do give is pretty dumb (or at the very least the people writing the movie weren't being as clever or as deep as they thought they were). You've given a better reason for it but the movie itself does not, and that's what TFS were making fun of.rereboy wrote: Imo, what I pointed out is already a perfectly logical interpretation from the actual movie, not what I would call "filling the gaps".
As for the actual movie itself, and speaking a little more seriously, I disagree with the movie not offering an explanation. The scene with Goku crying is intentionally repeated as Broly is being defeated and to me that means that there's a slightly deeper meaning to it, and that slightly deeper meaning is that Goku, despite being weaker, has always found a way to disturb Broly despite being weaker, with Goku crying and disturbing Broly despite being much weaker serving as both an example and a metaphor of that. As for Broly, he is clearly a slave to his power and his instincts and that, in conjunction with the rest, means, to me, that Broly recognizes Goku as a rival/threat and thus his instincts kick into overdrive when he sees him in the movie which makes him start to break his mind control.
Yes, the movie is pretty subtle about all of this but I don't think that's an excuse to just look at the surface, to just look at the crying scene, its placement in the movie and the fact that it's repeated as Broly is being defeated and think that the only thing that the movie and the guys that made the movie are trying to say is that "Broly went mad because Goku cried". It's fine if we leave it at just that, but I think that it's pretty clear that they were trying to do more than that, imo.

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
Someone help me out here. What song played when Goku beat Broly? I KNOW I heard the song recently. But I can't remember where.
EDIT: Nm. I remembered it minutes after posting this. It's from Resurrection F when Goku kills Freeza. I was thinking about it all day too XD.

That-that's actually really deep, and if the movie directors were trying to do that, then I salute them for delivering a message so incredibly powerful, yet so subtly. It kind of works itself out because Goku gets killed by Cell. Chi-Chi gets 7 years without Goku.Chuquita wrote:They said in the Q&A stream last night that the divorce isn't going to carry over to the main series because the movies aren't cannon to the episodes.

Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
You didn't sound particularly fond of doing this movie much like how Lanipator was when doing Metal Cooler. I can get why though considering it's Broli we're talking about here.KaiserNeko wrote:Naw, the divorce thing won't carry on. On a side note, I'm surprised you guys didn't make a Pokemon reference with Broli's LSSJ like it being a "Shiny Super Saiyan."
Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
Yeah, I agree. This seems like one of those things that people are so rushed to do, that actually getting it done isn't fun. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.BlazingBarrrager wrote:You didn't sound particularly fond of doing this movie much like how Lanipator was when doing Metal Cooler. This also makes me curious of something. Kaiser, what's the most fun you've had working on DBZ Abridged?
Re: DragonBall Z Abridged
I'd say more than a little heavy. It's more beating into the heads of everyone a viewpoint the fans have been well aware of. I can't say for other people, but I immediately was taken out as I stopped looking at Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Trunks. I was just seeing Kaiser, Lani, and MasakoX cosplaying as the characters to express their views more. It felt less about character interaction or observation based jokes, and more just extreme bitterness getting through the script.KaiserNeko wrote:Also, the "This is the worst bit" is a combination of us trashing Broly and the characters complaining about the beating. I still enjoyed the script for the most part, but I could feel the tone of this one throughout. It for the most part had a bitter distaste about it that I never felt got part of the other movie specials. We heard fuck this movie a bunch outside of Movie 6 as a joke, but it never gave off this kind of bitter dislike leaking into the script like here. It felt like personal opinion was put aside. Not so much here.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!
