Re: Is filler canon(ical)?
In that case, either there's no filler, or it's arguable what material could be considered filler if you think there are scenes or episodes that are just treading water as often happens when TV shows produce a lot of episodes. What you are talking about are just plot holes.
Filler is called FILLer because it is filling something up.

Plot holes are different. Filler is not plot hole. Anime has padding and padding it's closest to be called filler. MAnga extra chapter for joke chapter or cross over it's called filler. Plot hole is something where the story contain something contradictory because of shit writing. Filler is not even considered part of the story.ABED wrote:In that case, either there's no filler, or it's arguable what material could be considered filler if you think there are scenes or episodes that are just treading water as often happens when TV shows produce a lot of episodes. Re: Is filler canon(ical)?
I never said filler and plot holes are the same thing. You can have filler that has no plot holes. I already made that point when I brought up the cutaways during the Freeza arc. Padding is just another name for filler. Filler can be part of the story, just part of the story that fills up time.GTX wrote:Plot holes are different. Filler is not plot hole. Filler cannot be part of the story because in anime and manga where filler happened it's ALWAYS mean it's not to be taken as part of the storyABED wrote:I never said filler and plot holes are the same thing. Re: Is filler canon(ical)?
It's meant to take up time. It's often not part of the main story, but occasionally there is. There are extra bits of action that aren't there in the manga, but are both part of the story but aren't canon. For instance, that part during the first fight against Vegeta where Goku head-butts Vegeta and then sends him gut first into the mountain is filler.GTX wrote:Filler cannot be part of the story because in anime and manga where filler happened it's ALWAYS mean it's not to be taken as part of the storyABED wrote:I never said filler and plot holes are the same thing. And the "uhhh" was in response to you saying that their was no source material for Yugioh, which is why I specifically quoted that one part. There's a long-running manga that begs to differ.

Re: Is filler canon(ical)?
So it's not in the original source? So it's certainly a filler, simple. IF the anime is not an adaptation or original anime it's plot point.ABED wrote:It's meant to take up time. Re: Is filler canon(ical)?
okay the problem is you're not used to the japanese terms of filler . Filler mentioned in anime all any otaku media like LN, manga, etc so it is not only for television like in wikipedia that's your flawed logic. Filler usually to tell a part betwen where is actually part of the story or just or just something not part of it eventhough it's tell the same story.ABED wrote:I'm having trouble understanding.

It's not a Japanese term. It's a general term that's applied to many things, including anime.GTX wrote:okay the problem is you're not used to the japanese terms of filler . We're talking in context of course when you're mentioning filler you're mentioning filler in japanese terms because dragonball is japanese literature and media.ABED wrote:It's not a Japanese term. Re: Is filler canon(ical)?
It's just a term that in this case was applied in a different country. The concept didn't change. Japanese anime and US TV shows add filler for the same reasons. Filler is there to take up time. Contradictions have nothing to do with it. Where'd you get this idea?

No it's different it's like saying what's harem in otaku genre/ terms and harem in general terms. Re: Is filler canon(ical)?
What do this relate to because i believe i have mentioned the flaw of the wikipedia. Japan has its own terms like harem terms and often the concept of canon itself because japanese often made so many spin off and adaption that often takes different route from the original source. Anime also often adapting visual novel that has tons of routes. Western media doesn't adapt something similar to visual novel.ABED wrote:Okay, so what about anime makes it different than any other TV show that there's the extra criterion?GTX wrote:No it's different it's like saying what's harem in otaku genre/ terms and harem in general terms. They don't have their own term. The Japanese didn't change the definition. They also didn't change the concept of canon.
