Goku does care for his family

Post by Vegito Black » Tue Feb 07, 2017 7:34 pm

To be clear the real Goku is not the Goku we saw in Z from funimation back in the early 2000's that Goku was pretty much superman. Toriyamas Goku let vegeta live to fight him again, tried to let Freeza life so he could fight him again, and fought Freeza to test his own limits and if he was conscious after the fight with Ginyu likely would have jumped head first into a fight with Freeza before anyone had a chance to summon the dragon. While this is a harsh Truth that Goku is a selfish jerk that puts his friends lifes in danger with his obsession for fighting it doesn't mean Goku doesn't care for his family and infact the only time he has never been selfish was for them, when it came to Vegeta and Freeza despite his friends begging he allowed them to life but when his family was at risk he took it seriously.

The only times Goku has died (in the main timeline) has been for his family and were the only times he ever showed selflessness, and both times were for the sake of his family
1. Sacrificed his life to kill Raddiz for Gohan (he didn't know he would be getting training from Kaio) and infact since piccolo was killing him Goku probably thought he'd have no after life, remember the no after life if you're killed by a demon thing?
2. Sacrificed his life to get cell off of earth and before he went even told his son to take care of chichi Goku likely knew he would get training in other world but at the moment he had no intetion of dying just to train he was planning on dying because you know a giant bug robot monster was about to kill everyone and everything on the planet.

When Goku died both times neither were his fault and his being dead shouldn't count against him as being a father and husband. "But he was dead during an important time in Gohan and Gotens lifes, adolescence for Gohan and childhood for Goten."
First off Goku is dead because of Gohans **** up Gokus death is on his shoulders and even then he still has chichi to help him through his teen years. Also Goku is in the right in not coming back, heck if he hadn't come back Beerus would come to earth find no super saiyan god and then go home, Freeza wouldn't have had anyone to want to get revenge on as Gokus already dead and might leave earth alone, if he doesn't the namek dragon balls could wish everyone back without Freezas knowing, Zamasu would have never stolen his body and the 12 universes wouldn't be at stake in this tournament. secondly Goten likely doesn't even remember anything until he was 3 and likely lived no more then 4 years without Goku, even then he had Gohan who he looked up to. Goku is still alive throughout Gotens childhood (7-12) and his teens (12-17) before he goes off with Uub. Goten would also be dead had Goku not given his life since Earth, chichi included who had Goten in her womb at the time would also be dead.

"Goku only came back a day to participate in a tournament and not spend time with his family."
...You mean the same tournament that both his sons would be participating in? He would be spending the whole day at the tournament with them might have had a match against Gohan at some point and they likelywould have had fun in the match. had babidi not shown up, and the tournament with such weak fighters likely would last a few hours and Goku would spend the rest of the day with his family.

Then I think The most important thing to take away is that neither Gohan or Goten or even Chichi resent Goku infact its the Opposite Gohan and Goten respect Goku and look up to him throughout the whole show, Goten and Goku even have a lot of moments in super where they're hanging out, Goten even wants to go train with Goku in the most recent episode and defended his training with whis when Goku first went to train with him, Goten wants Goku to train and get stronger he doesn't resent his being gone at all, same with Gohan who has missed Goku the most during his life time 8 years total without his father (altough one year was made up for in the Room of spirit and time) While Goten only remembers like 4 years of his life without Goku and probably didn't notice it very well as he was a toddler.

Now leaving with Uub is alittle unexcusable but with Instant movement he could literally warp to them anytime he wanted and anyway at this point his sons are full grown Gohans married and Goten has a girl friend

And lastly these moments

Why do apologista always assume anyone who dares criticize Goku's characterization in Super and Super in general is dub-biased?

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

I wasn't critizing Gokus character at all, In this thread I was simply stating while Goku is selfish in wanting to fight, it doesn't mean he doesn't care for his family, and in fact his most selfless acts have been for his family.
