Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
He may have meant the entirety of the practice of dubbing. But then he's being ableist, because dubs are needed for people that cant see or cant read for one reason or another. And dubs are made by literally every culture and language. For every anime dub there are 5 Japanese dubs of USA stuff. So there's equal opportunity cultural exchange with dubbing.
Re: "Dragon Ball Super" FUNimation Dub Official Discussion Thread
Unfortunately, I haven't got anything interesting to say, since I mostly consume Dragon Ball online and not on TV. Though I can confirm that there's a huge fanbase here. Dragon Ball is definitely the "King of Anime" over here. I honestly have no idea how it's still so popular even after so many years.Cure Dragon 255 wrote:How is life as a Dragon Ball Fan in India? I think you've misunderstood. I'm not talking about the voices at all, because I really am in no position to judge the JPN voices since I don't even speak the languageBaggie_Saiyan wrote: And that is where the problem lies. That is wrong attitude to have, if you have no reason to watch the dub as you have stated then you have no reason, watching it because you want to "cringe at changes" is not a very good reason, some sub fans have genuine interest in the dub but if you're only interest is to cringe at changes then that is poor form. Like users who haven't commented on the dub at all and all of sudden come and been like "Sean's SS3" sucks. What is the point like what are people achieving by doing that? It seems people want some elements of the dub to be bad so they can complain and feel good about it, I honestly believe that.

I wasn't completely serious about the "cringe" part, but it's just the inevitable truth. When I'm getting stuff like "These balls make me feel something that resemble joy", "SAD FOR YOUUU!!1!" and "IT"S GUNNA BE THE END OF ALL OF US, NOOOOO!" then I think I'm not in the wrong for "cringing" or just having a laugh in general. I've never once posted anything about how "Sean's SS3 sucks", I understand people like that exist, but I'm not one of them.
Besides, as I said, my biggest reason for watching the English version is the dub changes. I find it interesting to observe how FUNimation's version deviates from the original. If it's bad, I will complain, and "feel good about it" as well. I don't think there's anything wrong in that.
I don't just believe, but know firsthand that people exist who would say stuff like "Japanese Goku's voice actor sux. English Goku >> JAPS" without even watching anything beyond some clips of the original on YouTube. Again, I'm not one of them.

The point of Dragon Ball is to enjoy it. Never lose sight of that.

I was just speaking in general about other people in reagards to the SS3 comment not you. Anyway I am confused all those changes you noted came from the old Z dub what does that have to do with Super? I know some people dimiss the JPN easily but both sides can definitely be as bad as each other sometimes, like Stuckmann has 800k subs and his comment about JPN Goku was completely uncalled for and unnecessary so I do sympathise with sub fans sometimes but then there are times I see sub fans completely dismiss old dub fans without a thought or attempting to educate so as I said both sides can be as a bit headstrong sometimes. I am right in the middle, I enjoy enjoy subbed and dubbed DB equally now so I guess I am a subdubby?DBZ Macky wrote: I think you've misunderstood. How was him saying his opinion in a review, that was otherwise more of a nostalgia trip for him, mixed with his thoughts on the anime itself, uncalled for? He prefers Sean Schemmel's Goku to Masako Nozawa, his main reasoning being that Nozawa still sounds like a woman when voicing him. It's his opinion & it was just one thing from that review. Many people would agree. I, for one, enjoy the English dub & prefer English Goku to the Japanese because I enjoy Schemmel's voice to Nozawa's. I'm not going to shit on you for enjoying Nozawa more, or the sub as a whole, & I don't think Stuckmann would either. He's an anime fan & he understands preferences in the sub vs dub debate.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:I know some people dismiss the JPN easily but both sides can definitely be as bad as each other sometimes, like Stuckmann has 800k subs and his comment about JPN Goku was completely uncalled for and unnecessary so I do sympathise with sub fans sometimes but then there are times I see sub fans completely dismiss old dub fans without a thought or attempting to educate so as I said both sides can be as a bit headstrong sometimes.
Personally, I think it makes sense where he mentioned it. He mentioned it at the same time he mentioned that Super was going to air on Toonami with its English dub, so it makes sense. Not only that, he just said, "I prefer Goku being voiced by a man." His tone might not have been the most warm, but it's not like he said, "the subbed version sucks." Then I would understand where your stance on that is coming from.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

The problem isn't his opinion it is how he expressed it, he didn't need to say that at all for one and he sounded incredibly condescending saying that, he did it intentionally draw a reaction.Scsigs wrote:How was him saying his opinion in a review, that was otherwise more of a nostalgia trip for him, mixed with his thoughts on the anime itself, uncalled for? I rewatched the video. It didn't sound condescending to me. A little tacked on, sure, but I'm pretty sure he didn't do it to evoke a reaction intentionally & you're reading a little too much into it.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:The problem isn't his opinion it is how he expressed it, he didn't need to say that at all for one and he sounded incredibly condescending saying that, he did it [to] intentionally draw a reaction.
The reaction either way was going to happen anyway, like if I were to comment something like, "Why do you use the original Z/Z dub clips?" or "Why do you have the 2014 Blu-Rays? They suck." Because anyone who thinks about it logically would realize Kai's better in almost every way, if not exactly every way, from Z, including the dub, & the home releases are miles better than any Z release we've gotten outside of the dragon boxes. The way he said it, I think, is why you''re saying this though. It's very deadpan & out of the blue, but I don't think it was to make Sub fanboys angry. If it was meant to be condescending, he would've made it more obvious.

Using the old dub as an argument for nowadays really shows an elitist attitude if you ask me.DBZ Macky wrote:When I'm getting stuff like "These balls make me feel something that resemble joy", "SAD FOR YOUUU!!1!" and "IT"S GUNNA BE THE END OF ALL OF US, NOOOOO!" then I think I'm not in the wrong for "cringing" or just having a laugh in general. They dubbed "Hello, Hello, Hello" but not Chozetzu Dynamic? I don't really like the Hello, Hello, Hello dub though.

I always wait until the 11:30 airing so I can watch Kai right after, I'm definitely looking forward to this.DB_Fan1991 wrote:They played an English version of Hello, Hello, Hello tonight.
They're probably waiting to get the rights to use a dubbed version of Chozetsu Dynamic. I can only imagine that's why we only now just got a dubbed ending.

So, if they put in an English version of the ending, why don't they use the English version actually recorded by the original's original singer? It's weird to me that they haven't tried to use it.
