Horikawa isn't really confirmed he didn't audition at all so it could be seen Toriyama chose him but Nozawa and Krillin definitely were. Interesting he chose Tanaka by name while he chose Nozawa out of a bunch of others but he did make a pretty wise choice, I cannot imagine anyone else playing Goku.

I've always been curious as to who some of the other choices might have been that 'almost' got Goku. It seems like they ported a fair amount of staff from Dr. Slump over into Dragon Ball, so...you don't think Mami Koyama (voice of Arale/Lunch) was in the running, do you? How good is she at boy voices?

I just cancelled most of my Amazon pre-orders in favor of Rightstuf's prices. Even with expedited shipping it was cheaper.Scsigs wrote:I really wish Amazon would lower the price of Kai TFC Part 1 already. Also, I know this is horribly off topic, but how fast is Rightstuf's shipping nowadays? I know they used to frequently ship stuff out early, but I've heard they've gotten slower recently.
Looking through her voice acting roles, I don't see a single male character. This doesn't mean she couldn't have auditioned, but I'd say it's unlikely.Gyt Kaliba wrote:I've always been curious as to who some of the other choices might have been that 'almost' got Goku. Does Right Stuf take the money right away for preorders, or does it charge when the things ship?Footlong Shoe wrote:I just cancelled most of my Amazon pre-orders in favor of Rightstuf's prices. One of the reasons I order from Amazon is that I can send myself gift cards & pay them off as soon as I have money.
Only dubs that matter are DB, Kai, & Super. Nothing else.

They charge when the item ships, just like Amazon. The only reason I was sticking to Amazon was so I could get release day delivery with Prime, but I decided it was worth saving the money if I get it a little late.Scsigs wrote: Does Right Stuf take the money right away for preorders, or does it charge when the things ship?

It's still a few months until the things come out, so I'm expecting they'll lower the price before then.Footlong Shoe wrote:They charge when the item ships, just like Amazon. I'm sure they will, but unfortunately it's harder to cancel an order on Right Stuf than it is on Amazon.Scsigs wrote:It's still a few months until the things come out, so I'm expecting they'll lower the price before then.

Are they worth it though? I wish FUNimation could do basic video fixing.

I'm sure they could do basic video fixing if they wanted, but I'd be afraid that, knowing Funimation, they would inadvertently mess up the colors even more. They might've decided to leave it alone just to avoid that situation.MarcBigleague wrote:Are they worth it though? I wish FUNimation could do basic video fixing.
Whether or not it's worth it is up to you. If you don't feel like it's worth your money, then you don't have to buy it. I think really the only appeal is the improved dub, so if you only plan to watch in Japanese, I'd say this isn't worth your time. You could get Dragon Ball Z Seasons 7-9 on Blu-ray for less, and while still cropped and with weird colors, you'd at least be getting the original music and performances.
By the way, welcome to Kanzenshuu!

It depends on licensing I know for some licenses FUNi can't touch the masters they are given and for others they can so depends on how strict Toei are. FUNi now have Super to release too and they fact Kai is coming out the gate relatively quick makes me think even if they could they probably won't to save time.MarcBigleague wrote:Are they worth it though? Just adding on to Footlong Shoe posts it depends on how desperately you want to watch the Buu Kai dubbed, for a majority of us here that's all we want and we will gladly sit through crappy remastering and awful music. Plus the extras would only be interesting to dub fans too.

Do you want better pacing or are you OK watching with filler ? Kai has less episodes.
Do you want a better dub or are you OK with the original's ? Kai has a better dub.
Do you care how the cropping is ? Kai is cropped better.
Do you care about the colors ? Kai has a green tint.
When you watch Z do you watch it or Kai ? I'd assume if you watch Kai then you'd want to watch the whole thing like that.

This might be worth noting, the narrator actually used the term "Dragon Team" in this episode just a moment ago

It's either this, or the next one. It all depends on how quickly they get through Goku coming back & the sign ups. If it's faster than 5-10 minutes, I have a feeling we'll see it. If not, next week definitely.Footlong Shoe wrote:Is that this episode?! I'm excited now.Scsigs wrote:Get ready for TFS!

Yeah, I'm thinking it's next week. Don't they show it right at the beginning of the Junior Division?Scsigs wrote:It''s either this, or the next one. Yeah, next week is TFS' one scene wonders moment.
Also, anyone else getting serious Buu's Fury flashbacks with how the music in that last scene was orchestrated?
Overall, I'd say really good, though I REALLY wish that they'd kept the original (English) dub's simple 1-word line when Goten jumped into Goku's arms of him just saying "daddy." I don't know why, but it's one of the rare instances in the original dub that legitimately brings tears to my eyes when I think of it.

What did he say in the original Z dub?
