This is old. Been in my collection for ages along with other test dubbings. The Youtube video is better than my crappy multigeneration VHS copy though. At one time outfits like Toei were trying to get interest in a lot of shows. Very few ever made it over though. I have a bunch of English promo sheets for their productions but I don't recall how many actually made it past the test dubbings...Bianju wrote:Well, I knew that, but I figured that this was lost to time like the series dub for Dragon Ball. Has Dr Slump (anime and/or manga) been released in any countries outside of Japan?

The first TV series was aired in its entirety in Hawaii on the Nippon Golden Network cable channel between 1985 and 1990. It was in Japanese with English subtitles. I have some episodes in varying quality from these broadcasts. The subtitles were heavily paraphrased and were sometimes slightly out of sync with the audio.

Dr. Slump was released by Polish manga publisher, Japonica Polonica Fantastica. First part was published in the years 1999-2004, second part in the years 2013-2015. Translation quality was good if not very good.
We also had anime in TV. French dub with Polish over-dub. The quality was similar to Dragon Ball - crappy.

I wish the 1997 TV series got dubbed back in the early 2000's. I can see why Funimation skip out on the 80's TV show since it would probably be too old for it air at the time. I think the 1997 TV series would have work pretty well back in 2002 or 2003.

I think it would have been a tough sell for American TV networks at the time due to not being an action show. That's in addition to whether or not the show would still airable due to its questionable content.Hellspawn28 wrote:I wish the 1997 TV series got dubbed back in the early 2000's. What exactly is the deal with Poland over-dubbing existing dubs, anyway?Kojiro Sasaki wrote:Dr. Slump was released by Polish manga publisher, Japonica Polonica Fantastica. They use foreign dub and hire one guy who simply reads all the dialogues. We call him “lektor”.floofychan333 wrote:What exactly is the deal with Poland over-dubbing existing dubs, anyway?
That's a common practice here. They make us familiar with other languages since early childhood, so we can invade other countries and steal jobs there

The manga was published in Brazil. I don't remember if I saw the anime here.
You can find all the brazillian covers here. http://www.guiadosquadrinhos.com/capas/ ... p/dr033102
