Ok, seriously, violence isn't even that big a deal. Also, there's practically nothing sexual compared to in the original.DBZAOTA482 wrote:
floofychan333 wrote:I believe that 13 is the age where kids are mature enough to watch the original Dragon Ball but kids should be able to watch DBZ at any age because there's almost no sexual content.

That's beside the point. The point is that there's a double standard for what's appropriate and inappropriate for children, and I don't really see any reason for it.
Re: At what age do you personally think that someone is old enough to watch Dragon Ball?
Any age would be alright with me, there's nothing in DB that compares to what kids see in the real world.

If your 5-7 year old can handle PG-13 movies release in theaters, DB around that age should be fine. It is not good to shelter kids from violence and other stuff. The early that you show them these type of stuff, the better that they would be immune from it when they get old. No offense, but I've been on this forum for a long time and some of you guys are most the shelter people that I've seen in my life. In the old days of the Daizenshuu EX IRC chat, people got gross out by the violence in a Die Hard gif and Die Hard is not very violent compare to other movies out there.
I was born in 1991, I'm the same age as most people on here and I grew up with R rated movies like Alien, Predator, Robocop, The Terminator, Pieces, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Carnosaur, Wishmaster, Hellraiser, The Wizard of Gore, Corpse Grinders, Blood Sucking Freaks, Die Hard, Rambo, Pulp Fiction and many others before I was in Middle School. I saw anime on the Sci-Fi channel when I was 5-7 years old like Akira, Vampire Hunter D, Gall Force, Dominion: Tank Police, Lilly C.A.T, Armitage III, Project A-ko and Demon City Shinjuku.
I was also watching other anime in Elementary School on VHS and Starz like Ninja Scroll, Bio Hunter, Twilight of the Dark Master, A.D Police (1990 OVA), Crying Freeman, Fist of the North Star, Battle Angel Alita, Gunsmith Cats, Cyber City Oedo 808, Blue Seed, Cybernetics Guardian and Devil Hunter Yohko. While some of you guys where probably still only allow to watch Pokemon back in 1998-1999
. I was also playing Doom, Mortal Kombat, Quake, Resident Evil, Duke Nukem and other M rated games in Elementary School. I was also reading Spawn comics in the second grade too. Let your 5 year old watch DBZ uncut and see how they react to it first.

Well Watership Down has a lot of bloody and gory scenes and it is for kids too. Both the novel and the animated movie are children. DBZ is not much different.DBZAOTA482 wrote:
floofychan333 wrote:I believe that 13 is the age where kids are mature enough to watch the original Dragon Ball but kids should be able to watch DBZ at any age because there's almost no sexual content.

I also saw rated R movies when I was really young. It's up to parents to teach their children right from wrong and reality from fantasy.
I might start with the dub, but I don't know, that's a great question. I would certainly start with the original DB.

Never got traumatized by R rated movies when I was a kid, either.

Re: At what age do you personally think that someone is old enough to watch Dragon Ball?
Not at all. I think the parents should make the right choice to see if their kid can handle these things or not. My parents told me on what was fake or real at a young age. My mom didn't seem to bother me that much when I would stay up late on TV and see Grindhouse films on the dead hour of the night.Bajosexto wrote:I know some(probably a lot of you)will disagree with me but I think a kid as young as 6 should be able to watch Dragon Ball uncensored. I mean kids in Japan saw it. And kids play rated M games all the time. At least this is true with my little brother who was playing games rated M games(17+) when he was 6. I really don't think Dragon Ball is too mature for kids. Of course the sexual content isn't really appropriate for kids. But somehow Spopovich beating Videl up is.
Not really. The kids who watch DBZ in my school when it blew up in 1998 didn't try to copy anything that they saw on TV. I also remember kids in my school love stuff like Mortal Kombat, Scream and other R rated stuff. Not to mention kids that I knew saw Austin Powers back when it was a brand new movie franchise in 1997 and 1999 which had sexual jokes in it. Not much different from DB if you ask me.GigaDrill wrote:Considering the cultural differences between the western world and Japan, it seemed like the original Dragon Ball was intended for kids as young as 3. The sexual jokes are definitely not for children, but neither is the explicit violence. Juveniles are inevitably going to copy what they see on TV, which includes kid Goku's inappropriate touching and the punchfests of DBZ.

Same, back when it was still airing the TV. The only thing I remember finding scary as a little kid was when Buuhan went via Vegito's mouth into his body and Buu turning Dabura into chocolate.MathSSJ wrote:I started watching it when I was 4 so... 4.

The series is aim to kids under 14 in Japan was reported that 62.9% of the Shonen Jump magazine's readers were under the age of fourteen. Not to mention most of us saw the series under the age of 13. I see nothing wrong if a kid that is 5 or 6 years old watching the series. I mean people take kids to see movies like The Hunger Games, Batman v Superman, Kong: Skull Isand, the MCU movies and Suicide Squad. I feel like some people say DB is for 16 or 17 above because they don't want to admit the series is for kids. And yet they are okay admitting that they like to watch stuff like Toy Story, My Little Pony, Adventure Time and the DC animated shows
.

I first saw porn when I was 6 (though I didn't know it was porn) and played Mortal Kombat when I was 9.

I always side eye the people who say "Now my kids/today's kids can experience what I did as a child!" Nigga, who gives a fuck about your childhood? You're an adult now and it was at least 15 years ago. Let the kids have their own experience instead of picking at a corpse.

How did you watch porn and not know what it was, assuming you saw two humans having sex? What did you think was happening?DBZAOTA482 wrote:I first saw porn when I was 6 (though I didn't know it was porn) .

Since the kid has born. I don't know. People, nowadays, underestimate children too much. They are not so stupid. I think, also, parents must educate them properly, teach that is just a cartoon, and violence is not a good thing, neither something u should practice in real life.
Me, at least, if I had a son, someday, I will watch DB with him everyday.
