Honestly, I'm starting to feel weirdly uncomfortable by the number of solid episodes we've had since the arc began. I mean, it's almost like the show has its shit together and it weirds me out. Even nothing episodes have pleasant action.
Obviously the staff lists tell a different tale, but at least it's actually paying off for once. Almost sort of maybe actually getting a bit excited for the tournament to begin now. That's something! Anyway, this episode...
The first half was a little strange - it seemed like Ono's style was fighting against the 2nd KA's clean-up (Yokoyama, it seems), meaning the quality jumped up and down throughout. Not a big deal really, just an observation.
Ishikawa showing up was a pleasant surprise. It's really cool seeing his art become 100% his own now. Starting off as a bit of a Yamamuro clone, only to develop his current style has been nice to watch. He's taken the cuteness to the max.
Tate up next week! They didn't show very much of his work in the NEP, so I get the feeling he's probably on the second half only since there were some styles in there that I didn't really recognise at first glance. Very excited to see what he's managed to do there.

I'm guessing this episode will have a large staff list, mainly because of Ono's studio.

It's really cool to see the production of Super getting gradually better. Directors are more organized, the schedule is better, the staff have gotten more comfortable with their styles, etc.
It's a shame that the character designer hasn't changed and probably won't for a while.

Itai, huh? I wonder when he did his stuff on this episode. He didn't do any animation for 82, maybe this is why? He's also coming back up in a few episodes, it'll be interesting to see how that episode turns out.
That's also a smaller staff size than I expected.

I wonder who the artist is.

#85
The first half of the episode was pretty conservative. Nothing special but was at least serviceable.
The second half was a bit better. The pride trooper fight scene definitely being the highlight. Also, did anyone else get Flash Gordon vibes from the Pride Troopers song, because I did.
Overall, a pretty conservative episode, with nothing really special about it. It was fine for what it was.
The NEP had a fair bit of decently polished Tate in it, though it's hard to tell if that will relfect throughout the entire episode.
In other news Jin Inaba was a key animator on this episode, though I still wasn't able to spot his work. Itai also worked here, and I'm hoping that doesn't have negative consequences for his episode.

The shading give One Punch Man vibes. Like, somehow it looked so premium. Or, could it be a new action animator?!ArchedThunder wrote:Itai, huh? I wonder when he did his stuff on this episode. I thought i saw a censored scene in this episode. When Dyspo (the bunny) cuts off a tentacle to the monster... I hope I'm wrong.

It is also interesting to note that all staff members in Toei's half worked in #82, except Ishikawa.ArchedThunder wrote:Itai, huh? I wonder when he did his stuff on this episode. The first half fight was serviceable but the one in the second half was better. Overall a decent episode with some soild art.
The NEP SSB Goku shot was beautiful. The shading looked great. I wonder who did that.

Who did the mini Beerus vs tentacle monster scene? Very nice follow through and weight in the animation.
Feel free to correct me if I say something wrong.

I'm not particularly sure, maybe it was Inaba? I felt that the tentacles in some of the scenes had these obnoxious movement lines on them. Otherwise, everything else was pretty smooth.Shreyas_Singh wrote:Who did the mini Beerus vs tentacle monster scene? Very nice follow through and weight in the animation.
