If you ever get the chance, check out Super DBZ. I think it's the best of the PS2 games. Plays like Street Fighter.Cipher wrote:I've never played either; never owned a system they were released on (and my laptop isn't up to specs for current-gen gaming).jeffbr92 wrote:You didn't liked Budokai 3 or XENOVERSE series?
I never felt more than lukewarm about the first two Budokai games though. They were pretty mediocre licensed fighters.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I generally prefer dubs over the original because I think the voices are better and I don't mind localisations. With that said, there are a lot of subs I do enjoy such as Toriko (godlike), Naruto, and One Piece. I won't refuse to watch a sub, but if there's a dub variant out there, you know for sure I'll be checking that out first.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I don't think that preferring the dub/s of DB is an unpopular opinion. Maybe it is here on Kanzenshuu, but I think that the average viewer around the world prefers their dub over the original Japanese version. And it makes sense. That's the version they grew up with. There used to those voices. While I love the Latin American dub of dbz, I've seen it many times(probably like 8-10 from beginning to end), I do enjoy the Japanese version a lot. I will admit that it took me some time to get used to the Japanese version though.Kokonoe wrote:I generally prefer dubs over the original because I think the voices are better and I don't mind localisations. Personally most of the time I can and enjoy both the original and the dub. There are some shows/movies that I can only watch dubbed( Terminator 2, SpongeBob SquarePants), and others I can only watch in the original language(Modern Family, Family Guy). But there are a lot more where I enjoy both the original version and it's dub like DB, Dbz, The Simpsons, The Big Bang Theory, Malcolm in the middle, The Middle, Dr. House, Bones, Ranma 1/2, Naruto and much more.

I grew up with the french dub, then I saw the english dubs as a teen, and finally around 20 yo or so I watched the sub. I prefer the sub by a large margin and can never watch any dub again lolBajosexto wrote:I think that the average viewer around the world prefers their dub over the original Japanese version. Re: Unpopular DB opinions
I'm sure there's a lot of fans like you that prefer the original Japanese over their dub. I'm kinda in the middle. I prefer the Japanese version of Dragon Ball but I love the Latin American dub dbz. I still think that the "casual" fans, which are the majority, prefer their version of the show and probably have never even seen a complete episode of DB in Japanese.PsionicWarrior wrote:I grew up with the french dub, then I saw the english dubs as a teen, and finally around 20 yo or so I watched the sub. Is there any VA in the original dub that you particularly don't like it?Gaffer Tape wrote:Whaaaa?! I know I've heard this before, but it never ceases to shock me. How does Furukawa in any way sound like a regular guy? I mean, the guy's first major DB role was General Blue. It sounds *nothing* like his Piccolo. And his Piccolo itself possesses such amazing range I can barely even describe it. From the quiet, sneering, demonic haughtiness of his normal speaking voice to his bombastic yelling when he gets excited, he can fit every mood the character conveys. He's absolutely fantastic as Piccolo. My only complaint is that his pitch goes so low with the speaking voice that he sometimes can't support it, and you can (very briefly) hear his voice cut out.

No it isnt. But I will drop this for peace.
Re: Unpopular DB opinions
What Cure means to say is that, it ain't a dub, because a dub usually refers to voices being put over picture; hence, you're dubbing it over. But, in the original version's case, it's the other way around. Audio first, then the animation.jeffbr92 wrote:Well, it's a dubbing work too after all

I have to agree with you on this one. I don't see anything about Furukawa's Piccolo that screams regular guy. And yeah, it surprised me that Furukawa also played General Blue, who sounds nothing like Piccolo.Gaffer Tape wrote:Whaaaa?! I know I've heard this before, but it never ceases to shock me. How they can voice without seeing the animation, characters expressions?Bansho64 wrote:But, in the original version's case, it's the other way around. Audio first, then the animation.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
He's not 100% correct in saying that the voices come before the animation. They certainly can, but it's desirable for the VA's to have access to the important animation beforehand. In cases where the animation isn't available for the Japanese VA's, there are still the storyboard sketches they can go off of, and the director can give an indicator of his vision for a scene as well.jeffbr92 wrote:How they can voice without seeing the animation, characters expressions?Bansho64 wrote:But, in the original version's case, it's the other way around. With foreign dubs, that's not the case. The animation is set in stone and there's no direct directorial guidance from the original other than the finished performances themselves. It's an entirely different game.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
It depends where one lives. For example, in Nordic countries watching dubs when you're old enough to read is considered retarded. Dubs are strictly for kids there.Bajosexto wrote:I think that the average viewer around the world prefers their dub over the original Japanese version. And it makes sense. So, I don't think it can be said with 100% surety that the average viewer prefers watching whatever dubs they grew with over the original. It depends on the place.

Re: Unpopular DB opinions
That's more of a cultural phenomena, it usually tends to occur in certain European countries. The vast majority of places are either monolingual or bilingual, and they tend to keep to that language(s). It's perfectly fair to make the general statement that most people prefer their particular dub.Saikyo no Senshi wrote:It depends where one lives.
