Where was it stated that Freeza hasn't trained a day in his life.

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Where was it stated that Freeza hasn't trained a day in his life.

Post by OWmyDragonBallz » Fri Jun 02, 2017 4:08 am

Back on Namek, Freeza was impressed with Goku's early blows to him and said he was the first person to give him this much fun since the days with his father. That makes me wonder where did the idea come from that he's never trained.

He says it in the movie. Freeza's line was, "I was born as a prodigy. I never had a need to train."

Frieza comes from a long line of beings who have never had to train. Chilled, Cooler, King Cold, etc, have never had to train a day to be strong, but as shown by Frieza in Resurrection F, training can make him into a stronger being.
"I am the hope of the universe. I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace. I am protector of the innocent. I am the light in the darkness. I am truth. Ally to good! Nightmare to you!" - Goku.

That was in a brand new movie though. Back on a Namek he said he had at it with his father before. To be exact he said Goku hasn't given him this much trouble since fighting with his father, which means he never had a need to train but doesn't mean he didn't. And did he also say that line in Super as well.

Training and fighting are two different things. He never said they trained together or that he never fought.

He also didnt say his father wasnt just belt whipping him. Also why would he say it then? It wasnt a thought or plot point until RoF.

There's two factors that are being completely overlooked here as well.

1: Retcon

2: Toriyama is forgetful of his own works. Especially old ones.

Also, in the Funimation dub, the line goes like this: "I've never trained a day in my life, there was never a need."

it can be heard at this link at 2:34: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NO5UZQXj7nI

He also mentions it again when talking to Goku.

Its not just Frieza. Given what we see of his empire, most of his soldiers dont train much either. They are like power-level fanboys, the only care about the numbers and what they mean. Is this a job I can do or do we need to call in the big guns. Thats why Raditz, who is a saiyan, is so weak since he lives by that ideal.

Lets make this clear, Frieza was a monster. He makes baby Broly's 10'000 as a baby look like nothing. His natural power is so great that even in his weakest form he is still 5 times stronger then Ginyu and Oozaru Vegeta. Aside from Beerus and Buu, two creatures who sleep for great lengths of time, their is no threat to him in the none universe besides his family. When something dose pop up he just blows up the planet. Also he dose not have the mind set of a warrior. The biggest evidence from his original arc that he dose not train is the very fact he spends all his time in restricted forms rather then mastering his Final Forms true power. He is so out of shape and has so little control over his power that going 100% pushes his body beyond its limits and rapidly drains his power, something he could easily overcome if he did train properly.

Many of his soldiers do not train, one very good example being an Elite like Kiwi, yet they all know how to use ki. Using ki is rare on earth but it seems to be a common thing in the wider universe. So its only natural that a he would be taught how to control his amazing ki just like everyone else when he was old enough. But its also clear that much of the Frieza empire has very little understanding about the deeper aspects of ki. They learn to control it, in Frieza's case to a great degree, but they do not master it like Goku and Co apart from Vegeta post-earth and Ginyu.

So if it was not clear enough, Frieza lives in an environment that is the antithesis of the one that our heroes grew up in.

I agree, except I think he fought his father before as implied on Namek. In a way that is training

We are given no context to that situation. What it could very likely have been was Frieza getting to full of himself and pushing his boundaries, as the young are apt to do, and his father was forced to teach him some respect.

Also fight is not training. Training "is teaching, or developing in oneself or others, any skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies". A random brawl with daddy is not going to each you much other then he can kick your ass.

In my mind a picture the event going like this....

Without knowing the context of what caused their confrontation, there's no way of saying with any degree of certainty that it was training in some sense, or that it was even a fight. All Freeza said is that Goku was the first to "get dust on him" outside of his father. As it was meant to be an indication that he was the first since his father to actually hurt him, it could be anything from a fight to Freeza just acting like the spoiled brat he is and Cold knocking some sense into him as a means of corporal punishment. Nothing about it suggested that they actually trained together, either to hone abilities or to get stronger.

Yeah, it just depends on how one would interpret it. DBS is a retcon, plot hole ridden waterfall though. Don't see how anyone would take it as canon.

You mean the gods who sat on their asses and LET Frieza take over the universe? Yeah he has a lot to fear from the "none interference" kaioshin.

How did you come to that conclusion? I just gave you a ton of evidence from Frieza's arc that supports the idea he would not train while your evidence for a plot hole consists of one vague line of dialog could also be interpreted either way. Supers retcon is pretty water tight.

In Resurrection F but it's clearly nothing more than a contrivance just like Goku's sudden habit to drop his guard at crucial moments.

Goku didn't die in GT. The show sucked him off so much, it was impossible to keep him in the world of the living, so he ascended beyond mortality.

That has precedent actually, see Goku vs. Vegeta in the Buu saga
