Actually in Neo it sort of looked like it did, but that's beside the point. I just find the varying damage while a nice touch to be just a lot of added work for them when it doesn't even make sense if you go by what the show says. I understand it wouldn't make anyone explode when they had full health but it really should do equal damage to everybody.

Well, in Neo it did go through you like that and make you fall down. Plus it was unblockable.

Though we can't exactly have characters dishing out one hit KOs.

For those who haven't seen Babidi's ultimate, he basically whips out that ki siphoning device and let's loose a massive ki blast from it. For his throw he impales his opponent with it, drains some ki, Artificial Human style, and knocks them away.

Well... evidently someone just discovered that every time you use his throw it "powers up" his ultimate attack! So in other words, the more you throw your enemy before using his ultimate, the more damage his ultimate will do. You can jack it up over the course of the fight to do utterly insane amounts of damage.

Also Akkuman... the damage dealt by his ultimate varies depending on how "evil" the character is. Use it on a good guy, and the damage dealt is negligible. Use it on a villain and it does really big damage. Use it on a demonic character like Dabura or Daimao, and the damage dealt is astronomical.

Check out these videos which demonstrate both.

Akkuman

Wow, those two characters are so much more interesting now. Especially Babidi, with that better-version-of-the-Spirit-Bomb ultimate attack.

No, no one hits this is true. I think it is quite difficult as in the show Akkuman's beam killed everyone with evil (and he was shocked to learn that Goku had not a bit of that in him).
But in game-balance you can't do that - so this is quite a nice try to make this attack resemble it's usefullness somehow.
If it had had same damage on all evils and all goods it would have been nice, too, but I kinda like it the way it is now.

As for Neo and Special Beam cannon: I always thought the attack sucked.
It was (like Vegeta SSJ1 Final Flash or the "original Kamehameha") way too slow in charging and beam speed.
It also had little usefullness after this high speed melee rush you could do in sparking mode - it took too long to charge it for proper damage (compared to a Kamehameha for example).
I mean, it was somehow canon as it took Piccolo (in Saiyan arc) long to charge this attack, but it just didn't make sense, as you only had one-on-ones in this game, no one was holding the opponent for you or stopping him from attacking you...

I think, it is now quite cool in Meteor and finally looks like a Special Beam Cannon. It's not pink (like in Budokai) and not too slow like in BT2.
So now I really like it more than ever before :D

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

There is something that I didn't quite understand:
Why did they delete some manual rush combos from characters like for example Goku (late)?

The two Gokus before had this "Ki-cannon+3 smashes"-thing and he doesn't.

So, I just wonder: A character wouldn't develop backwards in fighting style and lose [some of the cool] techniques during his life - or would he? O_o

Incidentally, recently I had a dream involving som random postgrad making a DBZ Arcade game in some place where I ans some other people were. Ok, not much of interest there, but afterward I wound up playing the part of Goku in the Raditz fight and got to be cannon'd through the chest... but death was much quicker than in the anime...

Rocketman wrote: Gohan
Sigh, true. And for Goku... while he didn't necessarily lose techniques, he used certain ones more often after a while... and he cared less about death by the Buu saga (not fighting, but... backward development?). And... umm... Stuff.
... Wow, this gives me an image of Dragonball AF: Apathetic Father...

Lord Badass: *Kicks ass*
Pan: Rar! *Punches*
Lord Badass: *kills*
Goku: Well, I guess that didn't turn out so well. Want some pudding?
Pan: Now he's going to destroy the earth! And there are no dragonballs!
Goku: Well, so what? We still have pudding, and they have an afterlife...
Kuririn: *Downs a beer*

... Ok, ok, that didn't actually have anything to do with the game. :(. But there was a DBZ game in it...

How far does the retro-compatibility of the passwords go? I read somewhere that Budokai 3 went as far as Final Bout.

Final Bout had passwords? For what... buildup mode? :?
Come to think of it... what are the passwords used for in the ps2 games? :?

Exactly.

All kidding aside though, I have never spotted any kind of passwords within Final Bout.

The official Sparking Meteor site has updated with passwords for Goku (Late), Vegeta (Late), and Broli. These characters are equipped with the Z Items "Breakthrough" and "Complete Ki Control", which apparently cannot be obtained in the game.

Sweet! Any word on what these items do?

Limit Break: All sates(sic) up to maximum.
Perfect Ki Control: All of Ki cost reduce to half.

That's pretty sweet! Any downsides to these items though?

I hope these work in the NA version :)

No clue as of yet. All info is coming from jipang, a Japanese gamer who has done us all the great service of translating a lot of stuff into English.

http://anime.geocities.jp/dbzsmjpng/index.html This is his page. I help edit it, with editing here defined as helping him with his English.

So basically it's the same thing as 5 Kiss of #18 / Title [Tenkaichi] + Halo / Majin Seal except instead of busting your balls to get a total of 35 Dragon Balls, it's just a password. Sounds good to me.
