How reasonable is to manga having more pages?
How reasonable is to manga having more pages?
I know that toyotaro said something along the lines of struggling to keep up pages, but ignoring that how much pages can a manga reasonably have monthly or weekly?
From the series,I am keeping up.One piece goes on break after 4 or 5 issues.Nanatsu no taizai rarely goes on outside the magazine breaks. One punch man had 143 pages in 40 days and then 41 pages in 20 days.I know that dr stone mangaka is publishing two mangas, even though I don't read it.All these mangas except one piece have good consistent art.
Personally,I would really love if manga goes 60 pages a month or weekly. Please give your thoughts.

Of course i would take 60 pages instead of 45 , Toyotarō statement about manga being ahead or Catch up seems to be far impossible , if we calculate where we would be if 60 pages from the beginning ,means we will be the next chapter 43 instead of 32.... and to catch up the point of the series on tv .... y believe 15 chapters are neededHawk9211 wrote:I know that toyotaro said something along the lines of struggling to keep up pages, but ignoring that how much pages can a manga reasonably have monthly or weekly?

To be fair he said he'd be ahead of the tv series not necessarily meaning his Manga adaptation, and he was indeed right he did designs with Toriyama for the arc which in turn Yamamuro then adapted into character designs for the tv series, as Toyo also said the anime staff were sending him stuff for the Trunks arc but the U.S arc was roles reverse.prince212 wrote:Of course i would take 60 pages instead of 45 , Toyotarō statement about manga being ahead or Catch up seems to be far impossible , if we calculate where we would be if 60 pages from the beginning ,means we will be the next chapter 43 instead of 32.... and to catch up the point of the series on tv .... y believe 15 chapters are neededHawk9211 wrote:I know that toyotaro said something along the lines of struggling to keep up pages, but ignoring that how much pages can a manga reasonably have monthly or weekly?

Plus giving the fact said interview doesn't have a Japanese transcript there is no way of knowing if ANN translated accurately (unless Toyo did the interview in English).
Re: How reasonable is to manga having more pages?
I think around 40 pages is the norm for most monthly chapter releases. I know some people think that since weekly magazines like Shonen Jump and Shonen Sunday have around 20 pages for their titles, it only makes sense for the monthly titles to have more than twice that number, but I will say this : 45 pages is a lot of work.
The artists that manage to produce 20 pages weekly are a rarity and even then they need assistants to help them meet their deadline. Assistants which they pay out of their own pockets. I don't know what Toyotaro is getting paid, but I assume it's not the full rate since some of it probably has to go to Toriyama. And DBS manga seems to be doing well, but not great. That makes hiring assistants probably a little difficult.

Murata is an exception, but then again I don't think he has a regular schedule/deadline either. I think chapters get released randomly. Have to look into that. But my point is you shouldn't use the industry's top performers as a measuring stick. They are the exception, not the norm.

I know,at least it should move to bi weekly even if he doesn't increase content(5 more pages should be reasonable if he does increase pages:D)Are there any bi weekly manga?Michsi wrote:is a monstrous amount of work. There are magazines that appear every two weeks, but V-Jump isn't one of them. I doubt that a magazine that is mostly used for promoting video games and such would change it's publishing frequency for the sake of a series, even if that series is Dragon Ball. The only other option would be to have Shuiesha move it to another magazine, which I doubt would happen since the manga seems to exists to promote the anime, but I don't think they have a bi-montly magazine anyway.Hawk9211 wrote:I know,at least it should move to bi weekly even if he doesn't increase content(5 more pages should be reasonable if he does increase pages:D)Are there any bi weekly manga?Michsi wrote:is a monstrous amount of work. Re: How reasonable is to manga having more pages?
60 pages a week would be absolutely insane
