LightBing wrote: You mean when he "kills" him after the latter attacked right at the end of the fight? There's context there, in FighterZ he say to Freeza "you're hopelessly stupid" at the start of the fight.

Thinking about it now they are certainly mentioning this moment however it's wrong. Goku's not insulting Freeza like it clearly appears in the game, he's making an observation. You can't just copy paste quotes and shove them in there.
In this case it's just awful work not a joke/meme. I wonder how it is in Japanese.
This line is not when Goku finishes Freezer. It's when he tried to spare him but Freezer attacked him with a disk.
Then Goku prepares to fight, transforming into a Super Saiyan again, and says something along the lines of "You really are a hopeless case", which is apparently "you're hopelessly stupid" in this game.

So it's correct to use this "prepares to fight against Freezer, turning into a Super Saiyan" sentence in my book.
It's pretty much what he says in the manga just because Freezer is obsessed with fighting him no matter what. Nice intro line then.

I feel like these online issues were way more prevalent after the early access day expired, and everyone was allowed in. Gotta be some server overload of some sort.

Anyway my thoughts:

I only got to play on early access day due to... well you're all aware. At first I couldn't get in, so I did trial fights, just to learn the controls and get a sense of the gameplay.

Tutorial Mode is okay. I get the gist of the mechanics. I was hoping (maybe it will be in the full game?) it would be as in-depth as the Guilty Gear RV2 game.

No practice mode. Really going into online fights blind. So, no bueno.

Online fights. I did not have a boat load of trouble getting matches. Longest wait time was definitely under 5 mins. If the connection was good, I got decent matches. I had a hot streak starting out, but then the connection got crazy, and lost plenty fights due to the constant freezing frames. When I thought I blocked...I was not. :problem: And towards the last of my play-time, anytime the rematch prompt appeared, the beta client crashed. It was weird.

Character selection. I like the roster they provided. I have not yet gotten to play with every character. Adult(?) Gohan is a serious problem. A little button mashing and potential unlock, can make any noob a nuisance. Also, I think Kidd Buu has an auto-combo that is almost unavoidable (assuming you're online with poor net code). It is a low kick (underground kick with long range) into his stretch kick/headbutt closing the distance, into another hit, leading into his Human Extinction. With a little lag not reading some block commands, a button masher using overwhelming offence at all times, and an infinite loop of that combo, Kidd Buu is definitely a force online. I played against someone who was mashing buttons the entire match, until it got down to Kid Buu. Used Sparking Blast then killed my whole team. Killed my Saiyan Spirit.

My go-to team was Vegeta (duh), Freeza and Cell. Second String Adult Gohan, Beerus, Cell.

Overall. If it wasn't for the server issues I'd say I did enjoy the beta from what I played. 7.5/10.

At the same time, very skeptical about this game's readiness for release. This is a serious problem. Have not logged in once today. Send help.

Well the Beta may be extended.

although that won't matter much if they can't fix these issues

"May". That should be a must considering it is close to launch and all these network issues are adamant.

Can only play tutorial stuff, and never get a match. Not even a notification for a match.

Can people stop treating this beta as a demo or a free preview? The word beta directly implies there will be issues and problems. ArcSys games have never been this popular and it was a smart idea to run a beta on this highly anticipated game to see if their usual practices can handle it. We don't want a repeat of Xenoverse which launched with dozens of server issues and was unplayable online.

I would like a practice mode too as it hurts loosing against people who have played more matches then me and have learnt more, but I understand this beta is not the chance for me to get some early practice in or learn the game, it's my chance to help make sure the game releases with little to no issues.

I tried different lobbies, but I can't get a single match. What a letdown. I thought we could fight against CPU.
Already did the tutorial stuff. What's frustrating is that I'm stuck with Goku/Krillin/Gohan team and I can't play with other characters in tutorial mode. :(
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

Part of the problem is the industry treats betas more like demos, previews, or even full released games than they used to. They even commercialize them since you can get early access to them by pre-ordering. Some F2P games don't even have a clear difference between beta and full release game, they just stay in "beta" forever while still selling in game content and then one day take the beta tag off. This isn't a F2P game but I would say that now a days open beta is expected to at least work.
Yes, beta does mean they are testing things. But they could have just made this a demo/beta. Plenty of people would want to play against others online so they could have put in offline practice mode (even just training grounds) to keep players happy and still test for issues.

That is the most frustrating part. If I could at least have every character in tutorial, I'd feel better. But I have to always play as the same 3 against opponents that barely fight back. Though tutorial is the only place to play as Kid Gohan oddly enough while Adult can only played in matches....which I can't access.

There used to be a prompt to play random matches if we could not connect. We no longer have that either. That at least would allow people to play in the meantime.

Things seem to have improved. I just got done playing a half hour stint and had no trouble getting into a lobby or getting a match.

Everyone doing ranked matches, what rank are you? I just hit Namekian. Got off to a rough start, but been doing well these last few matches. Pulled off a couple of clutch wins, feeling good, loving this game. Bring on January 26!

I'm not a fan of budokai/2d DB games but this game is amazing.
Great graphic, combos, characters ecc. I love the drawings in the character selection (like tenkaichi series) and i hope they add them in xenoverse too :)

I got about 50 ranked matches in on Saturday and boy am I excited for this game now

Before that I was still skeptical, since I've always liked beat'em'ups, but only played them casually and gored bored pretty quickly. This one is different however, as it's the first one I could see myself trying to get good at and wanting to play it competetive. No other beat'em'up has done that for me EVER

So as a newbie in this genre I can tell you that FighterZ is really easy to get into, considering every character practically has the same moveset. Yet somehow they all play and feel different. Also there's a deeper level that I think you can really get into and master, that will take gameplay far beyond the beginner friendly auto combos.
All of that combined with the attention to detail and my god, what a perfect game this might end up becoming

On a side note: While the German localization does suffer from Bills-syndrome, the dialogue subtitles seem to be pretty close to the Japanese, instead of taking the dub-isms and cheeky nods from the English voiceover. No "finally" when Goku tells Gohan that he's proud of him for example. Just translated as "I'm proud of you Gohan."

Wish I could get a match. After multiple tries I was able to get in and do the tutorials, but then it booted me. After multiple tries again I have got back into lobby a couple of times and I set it to search for a match but it never finds one.

Managed to get a few matches over the weekend thanks to the early access but I still found I was waiting quite a while before I got matched up.

I only managed to play as a handful of characters but I could already see how differently they all played, I will really have to practice with certain characters if I want to use them well. I seemed to struggle with Frieza more than anyone...

I'm a bit pants when it comes to proper 2D fighting games, I only ever really held my own in the Budokai series which feel very different to competitive fighting games anyway (I still have square, square, square, square, circle stuck in my mind to perform the kamehameha!) so I was glad the battle tutorials were available, although I think I would have appreciated the actual practice mode being open too.

Out of curiosity do we know what the second Dramatic Finish included in the beta is? I know Goku vs Frieza is one of them so I assume Goky vs Kid Buu is the other but I haven't been able to find it on YouTube.

I knew I was going to enjoy the game but it was a lot more fun than I expected! Counting down until the 26th, I can't wait to get my hands on the full game!

Nothing story-mode related, you're clear.

Just a tutorial mode (with about 20 'missions') and online vs (which has connection issues).

Have fun!

Among all the beta despair one thing seriously amazing is how varied everyone's favourite characters are in this game. All across social media I keep seeing peoples favourite and least favourite characters be different, there is no clear favourite or best character. We must seriously compliment ArcSys for making a character to suit every kind of players style and making this games roster to varied. It really helps open the entry level access of this game with the knowledge there will be one character who will feel perfect for you.

I've seen people on forums saying it's Goku telling Krilin to spare Vegeta, but I don't know if it's true or any more detail.
I suppose it would require Goku to be KO on your team and beating Vegeta with Krilin in the rocky landscape. But I can't confirm.

People online should really learn how to let you win or do the right thing to trigger a Dramatic Finish when you let them win.
You don't let go of an occasion to see this when you're lucky enough to have the right set of fighters in the battle, you play along with the opponent and victory be damned! That's no big deal to let go of the victory for once, but a Dramatic Finish is a big deal you should sacrifice everything for! Don't they understand how dramatic those finishes are?
