Yeah I get that feeling too. Like everyone automatically thinks that if it's FUNimation, it's crap. Suuure, they didn't do anything right. All they did was bring DBZ to the US and made people here actually know about it. And all they did was release DVDs with enough courtesy to think about the Japanese fans to include the original audio and subtitles on there. And you know, they spent time to censor out body parts and middle fingers and even certain words, only to have them redo them uncensored in the DVDs just for the fun of it, because they're oh so terrible people.
Just because in Japan they expose their kids to nudity, middle fingers, and foul language, doesn't mean that parents would like that for their kids here.

That's not really the case if you pay attention to it. People claim most of FUNI's stuff was crap when it is crap. Look at the huge threads where people point post screen shots showing the flaws of what they produce.TheGreatness25 wrote:Like everyone automatically thinks that if it's FUNimation, it's crap. On the flip side, look at the recent Broli BluRay Thread. Most of the individuals who are pro-DragonBox actually claim its a competent release on FUNIs part.

Well I think that the individual DVDs/box-sets are a great release on FUNi's part. Sure, they're really expensive, but look at it in another way. They show the full image (the Dragon Boxes show a little bit more footage, but not so drastically major like the "Remastered" ones), and they offer the original Japanese audio. I mean it's well done really. They didn't have to give the original audio. They could've done just what Pioneer had done and offered their version, but they knew that there were many fans out there that like the Japanese version, so they included it. And they have the series uncut on those DVDs. I think that whwere they took a turn was with the re-release of the series in their "Remastered" format. I mean it might be appealing to the eyes sometimes with the colors. They do claim that they stayed true to the colors, although that's debatable. There are three versions of DBZ, the FUNimation version, Dragon Box version, and "Remastered" version, and all three have different colors from one another. I like that it's widescreen, but the price is too high to be paid. I mean I like being able to watch it on my HDTV without having black bars, just having the whole picture laid out across the 42 inch TV, but...yeah, does cut out the vertical imaging. Even though the overlay of a 4:3 TV and the cropping of the "Remastered" format are nearly the same, still, it's a bit...uncomfortable knowing that a chunk of the show is missing. Hence why I got all the Single releases (or box-sets because they're too expensive to get one by one), AND will continue to get this. Because yeah, I have the Ultimate Uncut and the Frieza Saga, but...for some reason, I don't know why, but I like to just watch the "Remastered" one sometimes and not have the black bars, or the grains of the film. For some reason, regular DVDs don't look too great on an HDTV, but the "Remastered" version looks just fine...aside from the missing lines from time to time lol
So I think FUNimation's latest release is a hit...yet blunder at the same time. Yeah, looks cheap, yeah, was done cheap, yeah colors are faded, lines are faded...but also, I mean it's the whole show that will be reasonably cheap, with the US version, Japanese version, US audio with Japanese music. Plus, the reason why I'm still going to collect these is because it's a new take on the show. I think people's greatest fear is change. I'm fine with change. So lay it on me. But I gotta admit, I went nuts and bought the whole show of the 4:3 format because I didn't want to be missing so much of the show (yeah 20% is a lot lol).
Oh and I bought the show. Honestly, if you can afford it, why not? I got a car, got a good computer, got a good cell phone, got everything that I need. If I could afford the show, why not? Oh and I'm 19 right now, been buying it when I was 17. So? My priorities are just fine.

Yeah, no more discussion of Funimation vs. Dragon Box. Really, don't start this stuff again. It spreads everywhere. I don't care. I started a topic just to tell any potential buyers looking for Dragon Box sets that they're selling on EBay, or tell anyone who was interested in buying stuff in general. Please, take it elsewhere besides my thread.
1. who said that?1. Dragon Ball is for kids.
2. Anyone that pays that much for Dragon Ball probably needs to reorganize their priorities in life.
2. If you have enough cash, i don't see the problem why not spend money of Dragon Ball-Stuff. Every company can't survive without money

@TheGreatness25
i respect your opinion about funi's dvds, but there's really something that disturbs any fan of dbz when funi promises things that they never do.
I noticed, that funi never take care seriously about dirty frames (white spots). I mean the dragonboxes are cleaned up 99%. I think that Funimation should really start to keep an eye on these spots. To clean it up wouldn't be expensive. Even i could clean up 80% of the DVD footage. I don't care either about the colors. Adjusted or not, colors are colors. Even bootlegs are clean (exept the bitrate)

Now let's make a fat line to stop the discussion about funi vs DBox

So toys are just for children and not serious collectors.Godo wrote:

Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Fo sho guys, look at Dragonball's Pilaf saga. That's some serious adult shit right there. All that blood and gore and swearing. Hells yeah that show is recommended for 26 year olds or older! Dragonball aint no kids show yo it's hardcore. So what if it's in Young Boy (Shonen) Jump? That proves nothing!

I'd say something that's made for adults has some sort of emotion into it, and helps you connect on an emotional level with the characters with adult themes. All DBZ is, to be honest, is a children's epic battle story, with some blood, useless nudity, useless middle fingers and mild swearing. Probably my favorite show in the whole world, but I wouldn't go as far as to say it's for adults. Teenagers maybe.

I don't mean to sound harsh and I know you're trying to cooperate with me here but it's not even meant for teenagers. It was meant for around the 8 year old demographic. But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it still. Hell I still watch The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers time to time. People have the preconceived notion that older people can't watch cartoons aimed at kids. For the record Naruto, One Piece and Sailor Moon are all also aimed at that same 8 year old demographic.TheGreatness25 wrote:I'd say something that's made for adults has some sort of emotion into it, and helps you connect on an emotional level with the characters with adult themes. They did the same thing for the first Sparking! trailer. Japanese that didnt mean anything.Li'l Lemmy wrote:Precisely. Like the redub itself, the FUNimation trailer can be summarized in this fashion-- it looks slick, sounds new and gets you all super-happy-excited, but a lot of it is dress-up and it still retains a handful of errors when all's said and done. Only the ad 1-ups the actual episode content and gets the Japanese version wrong.Rocketman wrote:The same thing "iasfgdglsdnvlndslvnsalf" and "ahdbafsdbnldhnfasmben" mean. Absolutely dick.

The Alien movies were certainly not for children, but what the hell? They released a series of toys for that aswell!Didn't know that. That's why all of the Marvel Legends Juggernauts are $60+ because those damn kids keep buying them. Damn you, you fucking kids!!
Please, you obviously are not from the 80's generation. Toys for children are toys for children. I wasn't speaking about collectibles at all. I was speaking of mass-produced action figures at the price of 15$. And they existed, because I saw them with my own eyes.
Don't try to be a smart-ass.

Every fan knows that Dragonball as the first half of the canon Dragonball series was aimed to children.
When Toriyama realised that the fans were growing up he changed the athmosphere of the series into more brutal.
I can say that I personally am speaking about Dragonball Z and I think the rest of the posters in this thread too.
That's all it is to you maybe but for some people it's about growing up with the characters and watching them evolve into people. You can even find something to relate to with a certain character if you sit down and think about it. I think that's why some people who have never seen Dragon Ball have misconceptions about it because all they see is the fighting and power-ups. They don't take the time to really see it for what it is.TheGreatness25 wrote:I'd say something that's made for adults has some sort of emotion into it, and helps you connect on an emotional level with the characters with adult themes. Just because they were toys doesn't mean they were endorsing, "Hey Alien's really for kids even though its Rated 'R'." either. There were toys made for Witchblade too, is that for kids now because there were toys? Kids want something because it looks cool. The aliens in Alien would make perfect toys for them regardless if a kid's seen the movie or not. Why not make more money off your product?Godo wrote:Toys for children are toys for children. Dragonball/Z is still for kids though, like pro-wrestling and super-hero cartoons. Just because they can be enjoyed by an older crowd doesn't take that away.

Re: !
Which is JUST what I have been saying all the time. The whole toy thing was to point at the guy that posted commercials that were aimed towards children and claimed solely on the commercials that Dragonball was for children.Vekurotto wrote:

And I brought up the point that commercials that are linked to a TV-series doesn't have to be taken literally as the true interpretation of the main audience that the series is directed towards.
We agree on that one.
It's been off topic since page 2. The same has happened with the Dragonball Ecks thread. I blame it on that you cannot post in the Introductions forum.
I've NEVER heard or seen a forum without an offtopic section. It's bound to happen.
Ever since only moderators can greet newcomers in the introduction forums, new threads have vanished. And yeah, Daizex only has one admin in the staff that use to log in.
If I was new, I would be like "WTF?!" if only one person greeted me. I would feel more welcomed by lots of crazy posts. I would not be scared at all!
Well, I think that VegettoEX can do whatever he wants with his forum, but personally I don't think that it's a good idea.
My idea of a forum is that it should be complete in every manner. You should be able to discuss your hobby (in this cade Dragonball) but also your life outside Dragonball.
If we had an Off Topic forum, VegettoEX could warn people with bad grammar over there instead of writing in a thread with potential, narrowing it down to "I writ good, I see don't problem" or "sry ill try to get better"...
I guess that VegettoEX mainly doesn't want an Offtopic forum just because of that he couldn't take care of it alone, and that he couldn't entrust someone with the task to clean up there.
[/end of rant]
