Daizenshuu #1 Complete Illustrations - Translation Project

Post by KillerCory » Sun Dec 16, 2007 1:44 am

Hiya!

I recently received the first Daizenshuu and I cannot read it! (this is most likely because I cannot read Japanese :P )

I'm trying hard to learn and I know it will take time, but why wait?

I've seen members here that can and are willing to translate things for people. So, why not everything Daizenshuu?

This isn't just for me (not it really isn't!!) but also others that own and cannot read them or people who don't have the any Daizenshuu. I'm ready and willing to supply pages that require translation. (Heck I'll even through in pictures for everyone!)

I'm not going to bombard the topic with one page after another but go slowly and wait for additional translations before uploading another. I hope we can turn this into something great so everyone on these forums can fully enjoy the Daizenshuu!!

Here is the intro writing from Mr. Toriyama himself...

And here is a picture just to throw in...

Well, good thing that first book is like 80% pictures...

*Looks at Toriyama's letter*

Is that his apology letter to the fans for forgetting almost everything that happened?

or even spell the name of the language right :p. Naw, I'm not that mean to solely post about that. This seems like a good idea, however, some members might go "Z0MFG ILLEGALZ" because this would make it free and easy to understand.

I like this idea, I really do.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Don't bother with this little project. I've been bombarding Viz with letters requesting them to release translated Daizenshuu in America. With the emergence of a Dragonball movie on the horizon, these new "Vizbig" editions of the manga, as well as the recent release of Sparking Meteor, and the announcement of Burst Limit; I'm sure Viz will eventually come around, and realize they would make a killing off these books.

Now, if only I could get a few hundred people to send letters along with me, then maybe they'd take notice faster.

We don't know if VIZ will ever come around. If they do that would be great but it could be years from now.

(and yes... I have sent them messages requesting that they release the Daizenshuu but for some reason I don't think it will ever happen, the books have been out for over 10 years!)

The American version would probley be filled with dub logic, so probley not such a good idea. :?

I dunno Tanooki, Viz handled the manga so surely they'd be smart enough to know not to fill it with nothing but dubness. I hope. :?

Because that plan worked with the god awful remastered sets.

Given that most of the text in vol. #1 pretty much just says "this picture originates from blah and blah", you won't really understand much unless you actually have the book in front of you.

Oh god I can't believe I tried to be a driving force for that on the funi boards. I was up to like 100 posts of just bombarding the threads trying to get people to write.

That special section in SJ they just put out (Dragon Ball Collector? Memories? Shit, I can't remember) was full of dub spellings, names, and flaws.

Despite having the first Daizenshuu for 10+ years, I never actually read that page until now.

Here's the translation you wanted:

We will be publishing my collected works to commemorate the happy ending of Dragon Ball. This first volume features illustrations, or rather colored illustrations from the manga. For a little over 10 years, I was forced to draw... or rather, I drew a lot of illustrations. Looking back now, I apologize that there are many nauseating pictures, but if you are so inclined, please look at them with an open mind.

Well, he was fond of short works I think, and look at Dragon Ball/Z. He wanted to end it a buttload of times (Emperor Pilaf Saga, Tournament Saga, Frieza Saga, Cell Saga) and when he finally DID get to end it, they went and continued it with something even more insulting.

Personally, I think he deserved a break. For god's sake, the man had to spend SOME time with his family.
