I feel the emotional beats of this particular track aren't felicitous for the sequence to begin with, though to me neither dub track captured this scene for me as well as the original. I find that the FUNimation one does get you into the moment, but that the original is much more arousing and...serene. As for the track used in the Trunks trailer, that's my favorite Faulconer track and one of the seldom things FUNimation did dead-on, the first time through. Sadly, the "Trunks Saga" score isn't captured much throughout the dub.
In regards to the Boo Saga placement... well, it's good. The dub track that was there beforehand sort of made it seem as though defeating Boo had some sort of quieted mood, but not even the original (recycling the track used at the end of Movie 7 and during Cell's inanely draw-out full power power-up in the anime, IIRC) captured the epic tone I feel this sequence should have had by nature. Then again, neither did the Manga, for I feel this Saga wasn't all that great, but I won't delve into that.
I liked the track that was supposedly, originally threaded, but not in such context. But, again, the original accentuated this scene (Trunks slicing and dicing Freeza) best to me.

Well, whatever you saw first usually sticks. But after reviewing the Trunks theme many times in this scene, I have come to like it a great deal more. To me, that is the Trunks theme, and therefore should have been kept. And maybe Destruction could pop in while Trunks finishes off Frieza and blasts him away or something... but when he first jumps over Frieza with his sword up, the Trunks cue is perfect IMO.LegendarySSJ7 wrote:

And yes, the editors did stick in that track for a couple heroic scenes (Goku's sacrifice in Cell Games, Buu dying, etc), so why not keep it for Frieza's death? That.. we will never know.
Then again, different strokes for different folks

Sometimes companies will decide to change a series from what was in its trailer. For example, I remember seeing an Eureka Seven trailer with the Yuri Lowenthal-voiced Renton rather than Mr. Bosch, as well as an Ai Yori Aoshi trailer where Aoi calls her boyfriend "Lord Kaoru". (For you who haven't seen this series, she addresses him as "Kaoru-sama" in both the subtitles and the dub).Kendamu wrote:Too bad I never got to hear that music in the series (at least as it is in the trailer).

Well, yeah, I know that. If you're a TMNT fan, just watch the trailer for the very first TMNT live-action movie from 1990 and then watch the movie itself. None of the voices or music match up to what was really in the movie.Super Sonic wrote:Sometimes companies will decide to change a series from what was in its trailer. Still, it would've been nice to hear the trailer version of the track in the series. It would've reminded me of when, back in the day, someone made a fan-video of Son Goku and Freeza fighting to Mega Man X music to show that dub music could be really cool!

Going to have to disagree with your first statement. I was introduced to DBZ through the dub. I've seen at least 80% of it in its original Japanese. I cant even watch the dub anymore because of the Faulconer music.Arcwave wrote:

Good question....the answer is.....well......I really shouldn't answer that directly.Sun_Wukong wrote:How much of the music did Faulconer actually do?cRookie_Monster wrote:I was really fond of the Trunks theme as well...Kendamu wrote:The track used in the trailer was really cool back when it first heard it. I must've played the trailer video on my computer like 100 times in the background while doing other things.
There are only a few dub tracks that I absolutely hate. There are a lot that I can tolerate. But, there are very few that I actually like and the Trunks trailer music was one of them.
Too bad I never got to hear that music in the series (at least as it is in the trailer).![]()
The first time I saw Destruction matched to the Trunks footage....I doubled over laughing cause it was so ridiculous...
(I was the guitar player for all the tracks in discussion btw)
Faulconer = author for all tracks.
That title is something that can be bought and sold...and the above statement might not even be true cause I think Funi bought the rights from him.

From my experience what people see first IS usually what they prefer. It takes a lot of views\listens to turn that around.Sun_Wukong wrote:Going to have to disagree with your first statement. For example...look at how horrified everyone was when the '99 DBZ dub episodes came out. For YEARS it was all profanity and insults on the web. Now that all the kids who were watching back then have grown up and are on the web.....the situation is completely different. I can't beleive how many Faulconer fans there are today. And I see people championing the 99 cast voices all the time now.
And I look at how I see things. I can't count the number of times I've heard a "remake" song first and then gone back to find the original and thought..."wow that sounds weird, I like the new one better!"
I think you can overturn that instinct by getting really familiar with the other version...or if one is just HUGELY better than the other (which I'm sure many of you here will claim is the case =P )
Anway, I'm not asserting anything about the Faulconer score. I definitely have my own issues with it in many places.

I've seen a lot of the same thing. For the sake of the dub cast, hopefully all the hurt they felt years ago has melted away by nostalgic fandom. However, being an oldbie, I still enjoy the Japanese version more despite my inability to read the VIZ manga and hear the Japanese voices in my head.cRookie_Monster wrote:For example...look at how horrified everyone was when the '99 DBZ dub episodes came out. You know, I first heard that theme when I listened to the CD (which came out prior to its use in the end of the Majin Buu saga), and I couldn't figure out why I didn't remember it from back then. This makes a lot of sense in my opinion.
Also, regarding the Trunks Theme, a really good version of it was stuck into DBZ: Buu's Fury as the BGM for the hijacked train sequence in the desert level. That song, like many of the songs from the latter 2 DBZ story-based games, felt like a more complete version of the original. Check it out if you're able to.

Technically, the song fits. All the instruments are cued on each scene exactly. If you watched the episode with this track inserted first, and then heard what it is on the show now, I think your opinion would slide. But then again, that's just me. I am obviously in favor of it.daveeb wrote:I like the version that was actually used in he episode. That music doesn't seem to fit.

It's not really just that...The musical score improved over time and the acting got better come Cell Era. I found it astounding when EX held his first live Podcast at a con how many people said Faulconer's Perfect Cell was their favorite DBZ BGM. These were people who started this sentice with "Not to be an asshole, but..."...You've got to give props where it's due. Season 3 was terrible...The acting was off for the most part a lot of bad musical choices. Not really the songs themselves but the placements. But, by Season 4, dialouge started getting more acurate. Better musical choices. The cast was into their characters.Kendamu wrote:I've seen a lot of the same thing. Anyway this topic makes me wonder. In Season Set #2 they threw in a different Faulconer track over one Goku Vs.Ginyu scene. It makes me wonder if they'll use this in Season 4
They did that because the episodes had lined up differently, and their breaks totally fucked with the syncing of the original score. Therefore, the music editors at Funimation went in and just slopped shit around; throwing Vegeta's theme in very inappropriate areas as well as the suite from Krillin's harpoon entanglement with Frieza which we see later on. I don't think the current editors at Funimation know about the original Trunks cue. Evan Jones was the ADR engineer and editor at the time, but he left Funimation to join Barry Watson (the former director of the show) at Illumitoon last year. It's a whole new crew this time.Lavender Saiyan wrote:

Exactly.TheGreatness25 wrote:Yeah because the old Saban episodes are so cut up, that they took part of the next episode and put it in that one. So that first episode FUNimation did, they had to keep the continuity, so they chopped it around. Now that they went back, they had to piece it together again really.
