I love how they say: "With the visual clarity that only DVD can bring!"

How about Blu-ray, FUNi?
What makes that even funnier is the fact that, on the same release date, they're releasing the "Dead Zone/World's Strongest" Blu-Ray. They're going to claim DVD is the epitome of quality, and then expect people to buy DBZ Movie 1 for the 50th time in a different format...? :?

Well... downconverted HD does look better than standard DVD, at least a little. Not saying it's an excuse for their false advertising, jsut getting it otu there.

My proof?

26 episodes on 6 discs, that's slightly more than 4 episodes per disc. Which seems like not that much, but hey, I prefer it that way then having a crap load of episodes per disc and the quality suffering. I have one DVD that has 15 episodes on it(don't ask me where I got it), and the quality is really really bad.

Doesn't quite work as a comparison for a few reasons.

One, needs to be the full cap, so we can check if it is legitimately the same frame, we also need the source.

Two, it is a compressed comparison, which while can often show examples, doesn't work for comparisons.

Three, the modern Star Wars DVDs were from HD masters.

Also, a SCREENCAP being shrunk, is very different then a video stream being downconverted, especially since it could be an encoded downconversion, or a live one done by a player.

Your proof does nothing (especially since even if you could prove it is better in one case, doesn't mean it would be better in another).

I, unfortunately, did *not* make the cap so I can't give a better example. The source is an HD capture made by a guy who goes by Wookiegroomer, and the cap was made by a guy named Adywan (who's making a big name for himself in the fanedit community right now...)

Twenty something episodes. It just gets less and less. Then again, I guess The Cell Games will take up like 30 episodes altogether. At this rate, the entire show will be released within 2 years.

That's nothing. The official Region 1 Pokemon season boxsets cram nine (sometimes ten) episodes per disc, making the video look comparable to recording the show off of Kids' WB! on VHS in EP mode.

In any case, 26 episodes is the norm for boxset releases anyway, so it's not that big a deal. Besides, isn't FUNimation's Season 5 consist of some ungodly amount of episodes (70+)? No way they'd put that many episodes on one set.

Actually, with just a Stereo track on a dual layer disk, you can get decent looking video (not great, but decent) with that many episodes on it.

Actually, if you buy this set you're sending them a message that you don't want the Dragonbox.
Well that may be the intended message. But more likely, Funimation would interpret that as you don't want Dragonball at all.

The Funimation Season 4 consisted of Trunks, Androids, and Cell, with a grand total of 77 episodes. Breaking up the season into three individual sets makes sense, but I was under the impression that there would only be seven boxsets. Now, there have to be at least 9.

Logical reasoning would put the remaining DVDs as follows:

Season 5: 26 Episodes, Imperfect & Perfect Cell Arcs
Season 6: 29 Episodes, Cell Games Arc
Season 7: 25 Episodes, Great Saiyaman & World Tournament Arcs
Season 8: 35 Episodes, Babidi & Majin Buu Arcs
Season 9: 38 Episodes, Fusion & Kid Buu Arcs

I wouldn't be surprised if Funi actually put the sets out like that!

Man if you were gullible, then you'd say that these sets are the definitive releases of DBZ the way it was meant to be seen lol But we all know that's booshizzy!

I don't know. People say that the Season Sets look better each time, but honestly, they look the same. It's just the animation of the show itself progressed. Their process didn't change from beginning to end. They "Remastered" all of it at one time, as far as I can understand. Anyway, I'm disappointed with the low episode count. I guess it makes sense, but dammit, I don't want to be in Law School (in 2 years hopefully) waiting for Season 9's release! lol I think they should just release them like a month or 2 apart. I don't see the problem. Are they too lazy to just start packing them? I know, I know, doing the booklet takes up SOOO much time. Seriously what is wrong with them? My main problems are that it takes too long to come out.

By the way, Season 5, not bad. I mean sure it's missing some vertical footage and the colors are faded out, and yeah the lines have a tendency to disappear, but dammit people, WAY IT WAS MEANT TO BE SEEN!

*I put up the original footage and right next to it the "Remastered" footage* Notice, if you will, that the colors have not been changed at all! Well, that's how FUNimation does it.

Not really. The improving animation and source-materials might have something to do with it, but there's no denying that the colors in the end of season 1 and the majority of season 2 were WAY too bright. (Figures... The worst-looking part was also the only part which didn't have a previous uncut release...)

If you look at the sets themselves, you'll see on the inside spine that there's a portion of the Dragonball Z logo. Back when Season 1 hit, someone made an image that pretty evenly divided up the logo image that you get a portion of on the spine. That image ended up being split into (I think) nine pieces.

So, the prediction you're making now sounds about right.

Man, you guys were not joking when it came to how f'in bright everything was in season 1 and 2. I bought season 1 when it was first released, but only up until recently I've begun watching it. I noticed that it got extremely bright at around disc 3 and onwards, plus the lines were often faded or had a lot of gaps in between them. I always thought that some of you were exaggerating this point. I've been proven wrong.

So, please tell me..Season 3 is not that terrible is it?

So far I consider Season 3 three to be the best looking set.

Oh wow, I got in an arguement with the creator of that video and was marked as a spammer and blocked. This guy claims there is only film damage only every ten episodes or so, that the season sets have the original colors, that more footage is shown then lost, that the season sets are superior to the Dragon Box in quality... You just can't argue with him, it's really pathetic.
