Yeah but that was the problem. The way Schemmel interpreted Goku made some things seem out of character when they were supposed to be in character. Examples you ask? When he was fighting Kid Buu, When his butt was on fire after leaving Super Buu's body. I personally thought "WTF!" rather than, "Ha Goku would do that." when I saw that dubbed long ago. Not saying it be out of character for Goku to get pissed though but for Sean, I wished a little less, better yet I wished for his last 20 DB episodes Goku as the voice he used rather than his "Z" Goku.

My bottom line was that I didn't feel the same amount of emotions and I felt too much on aggressiveness through Schemmel's interpretation. Sure the other three guys didn't sound angry enough but Schemmel just sounded too much for my tastes.
Yeah, but the aggresiveness is only there when it needs to be. What's wrong with that? Nozawa has great aggresive acting.

I knew Ian Corlett as Mega Man long before Goku.

Heh, ever go back and watch the show in the past few years? I must have been a disturbed child to have enjoyed that.

I knew Ian Corlett for that role, as well as Cheetor. Then I heard him doing Goku and knew it was the same guy right away. Creepy but cool, at the time. It was something that actually helped draw me into the show.

After listening to the episode of Voiceprint, I agree that while there's not too TERRIBLY much to discuss, there's absolutely a good amount of detail in there concerning the desire to and to not play the role, background on leaving, anime industry at the time, etc... and very little of that is being discussed in this thread...

Perhaps you've all brought the discussion and these points it over to this particular host's website or possibly the guest's own website...?

I got a laugh out of his comments on when the FUNI guys first approached him and that other dude. So, how much did Ian Corlett have to do with the initial reversioning, I wonder?

Did he invent the Kay-o ken?

Or have I misinterpreted the story?

I'll take Schemmel over Corlett anyday, at least when he started to get the hang of the role. Especially the Buu arc/redubs, he really knew what he was doing with the character, and sounded like he really enjoyed the role.

Kelamis, on the other hand, I love this guy. While for the most part I'd still take Sean over Kelamis, the Ocean dub of Dead Zone with Kelamis is just a really great interpretation of Goku, but I can't see him ever being able to be as consistent as Schemmel, I'd imagine I'd grow tired of Kelamis' voice. Nor would it have the same emotional range. (Much like how I can't see Drummond doing Vegeta after the Frieza arc...or Sabat for that matter...Ryo Horikawa is the only Vegeta for me, but that's another thread...)

Drummond was awesome during the Buu arc. His speech was just as moving and awesome as Sabat's. I'm having a hard time deciding if it's better.

I can assure you that Brian Drummond played Vegeta perfectly in the Cell Saga and beyond. He made slight modifications to the voice as the character aged and reformed, and by the end of the series he sounded a lot more calm, more akin to the voice Drummond used for Zechs Merquise in Gundam Wing. The insane screams were still there when needed, though.

In terms of acting and production quality (editing/censoring notwithstanding), the final 15 episodes of DBZ in particular were Ocean's highest point since the end of season 2.

As for Peter Kelamis, I'm of the opinion that he was the perfect english Goku, especially when you take into account his performance in movie 2. He also returned in the later Ocean dub for a while until the mid-Cell arc and his voice was consistently great.
