Just picked up my copy of "the steel box", and I must say I like the packaging...but that's about where my admiration for this release ends. I have one question that is off-topic, there is a trailer for a FUNimation DVD release of One Piece Movie 8... now why would they release that? And more importantly has anyone bought, rented, or seen it yet (the FUNi version, that is)?
It's the one they decided to release first. I guess just to do their own take on Alabasta as that was the last major arc 4Krap had their slimy mits on.the original ero-sennin wrote:there is a trailer for a FUNimation DVD release of One Piece Movie 8... now why would they release that? Also, I watched it the other day, and it is VERY well-dubbed.

Actually, I believe they said that it was because Toei specifically told them to do Movie 8 first, for some reason. Not really related to the actual topic, but I just wanted to mention it.SSj Kaboom wrote:It's the one they decided to release first. Yes, Toei pushed it onto them. This has been stated numerous times but for some reason just doesn't stick. I just wanted to confirm that so maybe the amount of times I see "Why did they..." will slim down.

I finally got around to watching both specials last weekend but forgot about posting here until today.
Aside from what everyone else said, lemme also bring up that I'm one of those "dubbie gone subbie" (eh, that sounds weird) fans. Nonetheless, the Trunks Special is still one of those things that I enjoy watching in either language. Maybe because I watched my VHS version of the special so many times when I got it a while back. Sure, there's a crap-ton of re-writes and cheesy one-liners, but I think that's why I like it. I remember back in seventh grade, me an' my friend used to quote a bunch of the Androids' lines with one of our favorites being "We're in the cemetery... your cemetery" before Trunks and the Androids fight inside the building.
With that being sad, I kinda had mixed feelings about the dub in this release, claiming to be the original TV airing version (or something like that) but having a couple of music changes here and there. It just felt really weird expecting to hear one thing but getting something else. For example, the "Ultimate Uncut" ending theme at the end of the special seemed really out of place. Sure you can say the same thing about Dream Theater's music, but at least the general tune of it fit well. The UUE ending just sounds too goofy to end the Trunks Special.
Aside from those nitpicky things, though, it's a pretty good release overall.
