DBZ Shin Budokai: Another Road [2] Inconsistencies

Post by El Diabeetus » Tue Mar 18, 2008 7:24 pm

I was bored and choose Kuririn [Krillin] I check his skills; one of his attacks was called Sun Fist which is Taiyoken's literal translation; but, when I used the attack Kuririn said Solar Flare. This is from playing with the Dub Voices.
Was FUNimation to lazy to tell Sonny Strait to have Krillin say Sun Fist instead of Solar Flare?

What do you think?

Also what errors have you found within the game?

I found another in story mode; Vegito [Vegetto] was written as Vegeto [FUNimation should have used this one if they weren't going to use Vegetto, I have no idea where they got Ve"gi"to from.]

The ridiculous story, I got so bored of skipping through all that rubbish that I just downloaded a completed save, so I had all the characters and wouldn't have to go through the horrible story mode ever again.

Yeah. The story mode pisses me off too. I beat All the Super Buu's... I get my Ass handed to me by the Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo copies; since I have no Idea they're behind me and I'm trying to rest, now I can't fight Kid Buu after wasting all that time.

I think that the line recording and translation of the in-game script are done fairly seperately. I'd assume they just have Sonny Strait say the same things he always does for Kuririn's attacks, or maybe even just use stock sound samples. Meanwhile, whoever is translating the in-game script might not be told what the official Funimation names for certain things are, so they just do a literal translation.

As for inconsistencies in other games: OK, so this isn't an internal incosistency, but in Super Sonic Warriors 2, there's a combo attack that Goku and Vegeta have where they turn into Vegetto and do his ki sword attack. I'm assuming that in the original, this combo was known as the Vegetto Sword. In the English version, it's called Begit Sword.

That game had some weird translations.... :? They looked like they were literal translations and some just looked plain strange. This game also has a lot of typos. :P

I always laughed how characters said damn in that game, but also said things like "I'll send you to another dimension" instead of "I'll kill you".

I think what they were getting at with that translation would be the phrase "I'll send you to the next world!" Or some variation of that, although they had the misfortune to use the same phrasing as the Saban cast which was nothing more then a death cover-up. However I could be totally wrong, I don't speak a word of Japanese after all.

Well, Sagas kept in Nappa's "another dimention!" stuff... I think as more of a joke/throwback than anything...?

I think of it the same way. It's as if FUNimation believes that fans are just so used to hearing the "another dimension" line, they just keep using it. What ever floats their boat, I guess...

It's weird in the first Shin Budokai the stage was called Hell now it's back to HFIL. What in the HFIL was FUNimation thinking when the had the people name the stage?

haha Funnnnnnn-ay... anyway... the first Shin Budokai had tons of inconsistencies... one I remember particularly in that battle with the "evil" #18... Trunks said... "In this dimension (or something)... she'd be Krillin's wife." And the game had tons of swear words... there were also a lot of grammatical and spelling errors... not to mention #18 suspectin' Goku of being a pedophile or something... xD And Vegeta learning how to use a KAMEHAMEHA???!!! o.O
