Does Goku not hit girls?
Did he already love Chichi?
Did he think that one hit from him would kill Chichi? Why couldn't he pull his punch?
If Goku fought a man instead who had the same power level as Chichi, would he have hit them?

If Goku fought a man instead who had the same power level as Chichi, would he have hit them? I guess that goku at that time already knew how to distinguish between women and men ... but I don't think he has a problem with hitting women ... in GT and Super (anime) he did it, just chichi was very weak and was easy the win by ring out.

i just think he didn't see a reason to, considering how stronger he was, and the reason he didn't for most of the fight prior is probably because of the confusion he was in from chichi insisting he knew her.

As much as I really liked this small match in the series, it's clear that she was so much weaker than him that he didn't take it seriously. Most of his bafflement came from her not revealing her identity or the reason behind her anger towards him.

No. Yamcha was not able to even touch Jackie Chun despite his best efforts while Goku had to expand at least some effort dealing with Chi-Chi and she more than likely wasn't trying that hard either as she was able to hold a conversation with him during the fight without so much as breaking a sweat. The technique Goku used on Chi-Chi was shown to be more visually impressive. Probably just had to do with confusion on his part as to why this unfamiliar girl seemed to harbour a grudge against him and was so fixated on him instead of the general event. Goku likely suspected that he was already more than powerful enough to dispatch her with ease. His focus in that fight was directed more towards trying to learn what he could about her and how they knew each other, I guess.
