Wow, that's real objective right there. To put it bluntly, you sound like the same jackass your friend is - so utterly convinced of your own superiority in choosing what shitty cartoons to watch you feel you must blast anything else.Kunzait_83 wrote:He still thinks its modern art, as he does any number of wretchedly abysmal cartoons from that era that I likewise watched happily until I discovered anime and came to my senses.
Nonetheless though… there are a few scraps of U.S. animation from my childhood that still holds up magnificently under an objective lens…
Strangely enough, I think that's the same sound JPN Goku made when he went Super Saiyan for the first time.about as pleasing to my ears as the shriek of a 4 year old boy getting his testicles blasted off with a shotgun.

I grew up watching the dubs in the late 90's like many of us did. Good ol' Toonami and Saturday morning cartoons. Anyways, I of course got hooked on them and didn't care about the censorship and such at the time. I loved it and didn't even mind the voice changes when Ocean left.
I'm actually a fan of Chris Sabat's work now. He's come into his own and from interviews I've seen with him and fan interactions, he seems like a great person. Sean Schemmel, too.
I like the dub's voice acting a lot, but I love the Japanese VA's too. During the Android/Cell Saga, I prefer the Japanese ones, mostly, because thats what I saw them in first (good ol Anime Labs).

Kunzait, I think I love you
I feel a lot of that. So much of that stuff was terrible in reality but we loved it to death because it makes our childhoods. I grew up watching the Ocean dub (the first bit of sub I ever saw was right around when Trunks showed up), and while I love some of the VAs dearly I know so much of it was just terrible. I still went back and bought it (got the first 42 eps for less than 30 bucks, go ebay), but I know it's terrible. The same way I bought the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, though that analogy doesn't quite work it kinda gets at the point.
As for back to the DB sets, I've got one of the 22nd budokai ones and Daimaou through the end. The rest.. I really need to get my hands on because it really was the most appealing release they've ever done. looked good, good price, ect/stuff already mentioned. I should get on that soon if they were discontinued > >

Assumption that you were calling him a jackass through your condemnation of his behavior. And a bit of terminology disconnect, as I don't find "jackass" to be a particularly venomous or hateful term.Kunzait_83 wrote:Fair enough… but now that I think about it… where do you get off calling my friend a jackass?
Now who's not reading all of it?would find this particular statement especially laughable;
If there’s anyone in my life who DOESN’T remotely feel themselves to be “superior” regarding anything in life, never mind something as innocuous as shitty cartoons… that would indeed be me (and perhaps one other guy I know, but that's another story).Rocketman wrote:so utterly convinced of your own superiority

Well, Lars doesn't really count now does it?, and Farnsworth is Fry's nephew (but the Fry quality in his voice pretty much dissappears by the third season)jjgp1112 wrote: I think it's pretty easy to tell that Fry, Lars, Stimpy, Doug, and Professor Farnsworth are voiced by the same person.
Anyway,I drop all these names because as a huge fan of all things animation, it annoys me to no end that instead of hiring the geniuses of the industry, anime is stuck with people that have trouble acting in their default voice, nevermind acting in a character voice.
A good example is Vegeta's death in the re-dub, throughout the performance, Sabat's default voice keeps creeping in and out, which sort of proves my point, that these people are putting on voices, they aren't acting.
And just so people know, I don't have anything against Mr. Sabat personally, from all accounts during interviews, he seems like a nice guy, I just don't think being a nice guy makes you a good VA.

At the risk of not being able to think of anything constructive to say by the end of this post... I wandered out to get something to eat the other night, and walked in on a karyoke dance concert pagent... thing involving Jewel and Britany Spears immitations. The horror...Velasa wrote:Do you remember pop radio in the late 90's? I do. It still makes me wake up screaming some nights.
(... I think TMNT season2 might still stand up as not-crap compared to the rest of post season1.
The talk of voices Vs acting made me think of how people comment when I do crappy voices... ... I don't understand humanity.
Threads like these (though... usually more focused on DB... ^^) leave me wanting to talk about what I want to see... but it winds up as the sort of thing that isn't worth writing out, let alone posting. Sigh. (Though it's usually something generic like, "I'd like to see what DB would have been like if ... <something involving correction of FUNi "WTF?" decisions>").

Ya but Britney was barely around in the nineties....Victator Supreme wrote:Yes I do and nobody was calling Britney a musical genius.Velasa wrote:Do you remember pop radio in the late 90's? I do. It still makes me wake up screaming some nights.
I totally agree with the part about how horrible pop music was in the nineties, but the early was way worse! I still shudder at the mention of Milli Vanilla and New Kids on the Block.....eeewww..... >> At least the later nineties had the Spice Girls. Mindless bubblegum pop they may have been, but at least they were fun. ^^
Kunzait: You were a kid in the nineties? Pah! Yer' still a youngin' here compared to a few of us.
Jerseymilk: "Can I tell you something?"
B-kun: "What?"

I make it out as an equivalent of the Big Green dub, but only because the music is so horrible. The acting wasn't too horrible, but I haven't watched the whole thing, and only own two DVDs, so I probably don't know the worst parts.desirecampbell wrote:You are mistaken.SSj Kaboom wrote:Because unless I'm severely mistaken, GT's dub wasn't bad in terms of script and acting

I never had a problem with that stuff, because I was thoroughly sheltered in the glory of early 90's alternative rock ^_~ Never heard any of that stuff because radio at my house never left the good stuff. But at the later point the crap seemed into my rock radio by way or 'rap rock', and the less said about that the better.Jerseymilk wrote:I totally agree with the part about how horrible pop music was in the nineties, but the early was way worse!
But back to the topic at hand, I just picked up three more of the original DB sets. About 16 bucks each, shipping include, sounds good to me. Just two more to get now (unfortunately one of those is the Red Ribbon, ack), and then I'll have all the ones you can get in this country in the original language. Goooooo DB.
