Dragonball Season sets

Post by Zuhalter2000 » Thu Apr 03, 2008 6:57 pm

I have been getting the new DBZ season sets ( i like em but i know that many of you don't) but I was wondering if they were planning on doing the same thing for DB? I pretty sure there are already season sets out of DB but I didnt know if they planned to "remaster" it.

It's semi-confirmed that there will be such sets for GT this summer (I'm looking forward to those myself), but there's been no word yet about DragonBall. DragonBall doesn't really need such a re-release, aside from the issues with the first couple episodes and first movie, it's gotten pretty good treatment, if I'm not mistaken.

But y'just know that they're gonna do it anyways, particularly with the series' first 13 episodes having not yet seen a stateside release. (Nevermind that those of us who really want them have already snagged them via Madman, naaa.)

GT comes first, like ya said, apparently in the middle of Z (which I was not expecting). We probably won't hear about DragonBall until after both its subsequent series have seen their complete releases, though that's just my guess.

Well GT won't take long at all. Providing they keep the same episode count as the Z ones, it'll only be two sets.

Who knows, if they jump right to DragonBall after that, it might finish up around the same time as the Z ones. Maybe a little after.

I'd like for it to happen your way, I really would. But somehow I'm seeing GT being dissected into three parts rather than two-- the first episode up through the fight with Rilld and Baby's introduction (20 episodes), the infection of Vegeta and its ensuing saga (20 episodes) and then the business with the corrupted Dragon Balls and the Shadow Dragons or whatever we call them (24 episodes).

I could be wrong, a'course. Just feels like FUNi would wanna do it that way, IMHO-- three boxed sets is a more "complete"-feeling number for a series than just two.

I have a feeling your right. They will get more $ out of it and thats all that really matters, right?

Eh . . . I simply see it as a little more "sensible" that way from their POV, is all. People are gonna buy the shit no matter what, I'm sure, but this way it ends up three "sagas" instead of two and makes the series look longer and more packed than it really is.

If it does indeed get broken up this way, I'm really hoping that the first 16 episodes are shown some love with an appropriate "adventure" cover, rather than having Baby on two of them.

Yeah. Three parts seem more likely to me too. 20 episodes per boxset would be enough to get away with. Especially since the series is so short, they're more likely to split it up into more parts. Four parts wouldn't even be suprising, especially if Funi want to stick with the "Lost Episodes" thing.

I don't know about Dragon Ball being released. Those first 13 episodes will be owned by Trimark for a looong time according to Kyle Herbert, who said those exact words just a few years ago.

Not an impossible notion, but I think this time they'll be smart and stay away from the whole "lost" thing in favor of actually calling it something, like Blackstar Dragonball saga or whatever.

Lemme tell ya: If I had my way with this shit, what I would do is simply shove the entire series into a single boxed set. I mean, c'mon; it's DragonBall GT-- you'd think that FUNi would wanna just get it over with on some level. And it's only 64 episodes, so it's not complicated like if they were to try to do the same thing with Z.

DragonBall GT: The Complete Series. Nowhere near as profitable as what they'll end up doing with the two or three sets, I know, but it would still be wicked awesome.

Bah. They're gonna friggin' do it and do it soon-- they may even be underway already, for all we know. Ya don't just stop printing the existing DragonBall DVDs for nothing, not if you're FUNi.

That's right. They are remastering them. I just don't know when it's coming out. I know they are currently "remastering" them. Back when Z Store was NORMAL and you could actually find things, I chatted with their live Customer Service rep, and she said it was currently getting the same treatment as DBZ (I asked her why they took off all their Dragon Ball stuff). The thing is, WHEN will it come out? Could be 3 years from now.

I have the whole series for $220, and I'm not sure if I'd really need the Season Sets. I can't find one thing about the Season Sets that the original sets don't have. Dub with Japanese music? Laughable. It's not a new feature :-p I guess for those who can't find it, or who don't want to spend like $250 (even with 2 box sets that they sell on the Madman website), I guess it would be good. I just hope that the color schematics and the booklet would be good. I rather enjoy the booklets on the Z Season Sets, even though they are...not good lol I'm happy with my Z Season sets. As I've been trying to make a point of, I feel that it's a different take on the show. So I have the 4:3, and the 16:9. It's nice to have. So I'd definitely get the GT and DB sets when they come out, even though I have the entire series (from DB, throughout DBZ, to DBGT). Still, the biggest factor will be when they come out. I mean I know that a lot of people wouldn't care, but I wouldn't want to be a 25 year old rushing to Best Buy to get the DB set.

They better do it, They finally start doing a good steady release, and it'd be a shame if they didn't include the original series.

It's actually poorly done too, the music sounds worse and some parts are either missing or just replaced, like the Fucking opening theme!

Season 1,2 and 3 really did have this thing going where the voices were about 10X louder then the music. However I think the two specials did fix that. I don't really care for the combo much anyway. It's like mixing Peanut butter and fish to me. We have WWF screaming with a faint whistle of orchestration music in the background. At least the dub music fit the dub voices. Not that I LIKED the dub music but it did fit with the acting of the dub cast.
Aro started to laugh. “Ha, ha, ha,” he chuckled.- Actual quote from Twilight

I never saw a problem with Dragon Ball. The music was nice actually. I think it was well done. Out of all three series, I think Dragon Ball was probably the best one done to capture the entire feel of the show.

We'll get DB season sets, eventually.

As for the DBGT season sets, I'm kind of banking on it. Since I just sold all of my GT singles in the hope that we'll be getting sets in English w/ the Japanese music. The Japanese music was my fav aspect of GT, and I owuld really enjoy it in the dubbed version.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Same here. There's stuff I wanna do video-wise with GT (an AMV or two and another project), but I'm holding out for a version with a Dub w/ Japanese music option. Because unless I'm severely mistaken, GT's dub wasn't bad in terms of script and acting, but the horrid music is what made it unwatchable.
