These questions have been inside of me since ever.
hey guys ,
I had a couple of questions a long time, everytime they pop up. So now I'm making my on thread.
1. Who made the anime? Was it Akira Toriyama or did he only gave permission to special drawing teams?
2. How is DragonBall colored? Was it with pencel, with paint?
3.Are Cells pieces from the original film? How come some cells are weird colored?
4.How many copies of the original film are made and how much are they worth.
5. Is there any other ' Must-have-Item' in the Dragonball World I don't know about. I know you can have all : DVD's, Manga's and Daizenshuu's. These are THE REAL info/enterraining stuff. Is there anything else in the DB-world.
Well this is it for now, more will DEF come:P
Really happy this is out and looking forward to see the reply's.
Zank-u!!!!

TOEI animation studios created the anime. Toriyama helped with some designs and gave some input for filler material.shotkeeper wrote:1. Who made the anime? Was it Akira Toriyama or did he only gave permission to special drawing teams?
Manga: Toriyama mostly used watercolors and markers for colored portions, I think. The anime was painted; t'was before the era of digital animation, for the most part.2. How is DragonBall colored? Was it with pencil, with paint?
- Yes.3.Are Cels pieces from the original film? How come some cells are weird colored?
- Some of them are only partially colored, and most if not all of them are without the backgrounds. Sometimes the cel is for a zoomed-in shot, so it's not colored completely past a certain point.
Don't really know. Someone else'll have to chime in on this.4.How many copies of the original film are made and how much are they worth.
I, personally, would value owning the entire manga in some format or another, whichever version you find most readable or of the best quality. Aside from that, there's animation cels and junk, I guess.5. Is there any other ' Must-have-Item' in the Dragonball World I don't know about. Re: These questions have been inside of me since ever.
The anime was produced by Toei Animation. They've produced a lot of anime adaptations of Shonen Jump manga, and are the ones who make One Piece now. I don't quite know how the system for picking which animation studios animate which Shonen Jump manga is conducted, but I don't think Toriyama personally picked Toei to do the anime.shotkeeper wrote: 1. This is from the Toriyama interview in Daizenshuu 1, which I translated for Kanzentai:2. How is DragonBall colored? Was it with pencel, with paint?
For questions 3 and 4, this threadgoes into some discussion about cells, how their backgrounds are often changed when they're sold, and how much they cost.Q: Next I'd like to ask you about color manuscripts: what do you use for coloring?
A: A color ink called "Ruma". A shoujo manga artist from a long time ago told me about it. Until then I had been using a water based color pen that came out squeakily and dissolved in water. This made covering a large area very tough. So when I used this color ink, it made me go "Ah, there's something this useful? Now I can get it wet and not squeak." (laughs)

How Animation Studios used to Work:
A bunch of under paid talented Asian men, sit in a horrible room with no ventilation smoking cigarettes and drinking heavily while drawing the same thing over and over again, frame by frame, hundreds of pictures to create just seconds of footage. Then after working there fingers to bone and attaining lung cancer and liver damage, the men move the pictures under a camera and take photos of each picture or "cell" placed over a backdrop. This is done over, and over. Then it is pieced together and put on film.
Tada, the animation is complete.
All these men are either now blind, or dead.
Alright, that was BS. But it is kinda true, and funny.

Hahah , TBH I thought this is how it really went. Don't know about the room and smoking, but Omg how many images/cells they needed to create. Damn I'm starting to like them instead of the mastermind. Wonder who they are, where they are. How they got used to each other. I really wonder why know one ever talks about this.

Now I have a question about the animation: The reason the filler exist is so the the anime never catches up with the manga, or something to that effect, right? Now I heard that it sometimes takes six months to complete a 23 minute animated program. How long does it take for the typical manga and anime to be producers? Cuz it seems that a manga should be quicker to be make than a an anime.

Ah, the days before digitala nimation - in a time when flash wasn't considered high-quality *cough*LazloMuchaLucahandallotherpopularshowstoday*cough*
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I spend a lot of time with other animation students, and we spend a lot of time living in dark holes with just our lightboxes to see, doing horrible caricature doodles to save our sanity between endlessly drawing flour sacks doing things like walk or look for their parents, and occasionally rise from what we've affectionately termed "the pit" to brave the human world for food.omegacwa wrote:How Animation Studios used to Work:

If smoking and drinking were allowed in the building, I can see that happening too. So you're really not that far off.
Thanks for making me laugh. That was fantastic ^^

In Viz's Shonen Jump line, the Dragonball Manga is right to left.shotkeeper wrote:I have another questions guys. The Manga is ment to be read from left to right , right? Then in the English version. Is it still from left to right or did they do the mirror effect thing. So that it would be read from left ro right.
THanks
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Maybe in the monthly comic book format, but I don't believe that any edition of Viz's Dragon Ball graphic novels have been flipped. I own all of the old big editions, and none of those were flipped.Raki wrote:The Pre-Shonen Jump releases from Viz were flipped from what I understand.shotkeeper wrote:Is only the Jump line not flipped or are all versions not flipped. In what alternate universe is Mucha Lucha popular? O_o
Flash isn't that bad for a cheap cartoon. I know for a fact that a show like Kappa Mikey wouldn't have ever been made without flash animation.
Oh, and Avatar is still traditionally animated, and I think other popular shows like Spongebob are too. Not sure about Fairly Oddparents. What else is popular nowadays?

Al right, so I get it. Only a few were flipped. That's good to hear. Now I'm waiting for the VIZBIG. I have great expectations. I hope they get as good as the Kanzenban. Welll one is sure they can't compete the Kanzenban cover haha.Herms wrote:Maybe in the monthly comic book format, but I don't believe that any edition of Viz's Dragon Ball graphic novels have been flipped. Here we go again, This popped up in my head: So I understand Ocean dub group was hired by Funimation but it was only till a certain point. After that Funimation went Solo. Then I want to ask: How come I can still see video's of Ocean at the Cell Saga and even GT. What's up with that.
Thanks again,
