I have a soft spot for Movie 13, since it was the first fansub I bought.

Movie 13 -- because it's cool, but still a little bit weird.

We can see that Elder Kai's unlocked ability is a transformation and it's kinda funny that Goku, who was weaker than Gohan at that moment, won the battle; he should have killed Hirudegarn with Gohan with some kind of duo attack or something...
-"this is madness"
-"madness? no.. this..is.. dragonball!"

The best explanation for that is that Goku only won because of the Dragon Fist, and that it's a super-special attack that somehow is more powerful than Goku himself... Kinda the later-series replacement for the Spirit Bomb, I guess.

I hate movie 13.

The whole movie was named after Goku's move.

Tapion barely did any fighting...

Also they were holding back, I don't like where the characters have to hold back for no reason.

Goku could've just turned ssj 3 and use that move in the beginning.

The reason I disliked movie 13 was because it didn't feel like a dbz movie. Yes, Tapion is cool. Yes, that story was neat. But the dbz chars were kind of tucked in at the side. And again.... if Pic's not in it, a lot of my intrest drops out.

If you mean the music, then thats because its Menza's soundtrack.

Also, just on a general note, Movie 13 isn't really trying to explain the origin of Future Trunks' sword. No. Its just supposed to be like a cool little coincidence. Your just supposed to think "oh, its kinda like a telling of how Trunks gets his sword...but not really though".

I also felt that movie 13 was ruined by Menza's 'music'. Frickin' terrible is what it is.

Well, when Gohan fight's Hildegarn's legs, I think, he powers up and changes from looking normal to looking like his Ultimate Gohan self.

Of the three movies I've heard with Menza's 'music' (9, 12 and 13), I might say 13 was bastardized the least... but I've onlyseen the other two once a piece (and never even finished 9), so... meh. What really bugged me about the Menza score with 13 was the horrible balance and how every scene pretty much had the same three chords (the original soundtrack used Tapion's 'theme' out the wazoo, but it wasn't quite as saturated as Menza's favorite chords, and it atually had something resembling a melody).
Egh, maybe.

Hmm. Thinking about it, I think the movies that have the most characters and try to give something to everyone (3, 4, 6 and 9 come to mind) have sort of a "battle montage" feel... like, just replacing the audio with a song would qualify as an AMV... (somehow I didn't get that feeling from 8). I like giving something to the characters that normally get the shaft... but somhow it's pretty hit and miss in the movies, in m experience. :meh:

I like the 4th movie quite a bit more than others. Not sure why though :? .
I think it has something to do with the fact that I first seen the weird British dub (crystal balls, Big Green etc) and still managed to enjoy it.
The fight where Goku almost transformed into a "super warrior" (lol) was pretty awesome aswell.

I also like 13, but I've only seen a fansub a friend let me borrow. I haven't gotten round to watching the dubbed one in whole yet. I watched 5 mins and decided to turn off. I'll manage someday :)

Ah yes, I see. When he's not fighting, he looks like before the fight against Buu. I consider it is an inconsistency, since it's obvious in the end of the manga that it's not a transformation.

Meh, I still like this movie the most. I've been lucky enough to watch it in theaters in double feature with the 12th movie (which bored me to no end), and I really enjoyed it. And I loved the little interaction between Gohan and Videl.

I guess it'd be movie 12. It was the first one I saw in Japanese, so that might be why I like it so much. :D

I'm pretty sure it was movie 6 that was played as a double feature with 12.

DB Movie 2, DBZ Movie 1, 7, 9, and 12

DB Movie 2: Hilarious. Even if it was a partial remake, I still loved it.

DBZ Movie 1: First DBZ movie I saw before I even realized it was a movie. Looking at it now, the action/plot/and storytelling are amazing.

DBZ Movie 7
: A story that flows very well without any downtime, and everything you could possibly want from a Dragonball movie.

DBZ Movie 9: Starts off slow but from the moment Zangya beats up Kuririn to the end of the movie are amazing.

DBZ Movie 12: Uh... It's obvious.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Let's see...

Broly: Second Coming (Tons of Gohan and Videl.)
Fusion Reborn (Gohan killing Freeza; Videl being awesome; Accusations of out-making between Gohan and Videl. You get the picture, right?)
Wrath of the Dragon (Saiyateam!)

While I do agree that Menza's music sucks and that the man should never be allowed to score anything ever again, the poor guy still gets a whole bunch of undeserved bashing from the DragonBall fanbase. This is why: Mark Menza did not, I repeat, did not, score movies 12 or 13 like most fans believe. The only movies that Menza did the dub music for were movies 6, 7, 9, 11, and the movie 1 redub. That's all.

Movies 12, 13, and the redubs of films 2 & 3 were scored by a man named Nathan Johnson, a composer just as bad, if not worse, than Menza. The problem is that not many fans pay enough attention to the credits and Menza gets bashed for sucky music he didn't create, while Mr. Johnson gets off completely clean. Believe me, I absolutely hate the dub music that FUNi made for the movies as well, but when bashing it, be sure to blame the proper composers.

Anyway, my favorite movies... gee, that's hard. Actually, I'll just put it in list form.

DB Movie 3: This gets a mention for the Goku vs. Taopaipai fight alone. Great animation, Dr. Slump cameos, and a perfect blend of classic DragonBall comedy and action. Literally short and sweet, that fight is my favorite scene in all of Dragon Ball/Z/GT.

DBZ Movie 1: Fantastic animation. This was back when DragonBall focused on actual combat rather than energy blasts, and the choreography of the fight scenes is just beautiful. It's a little thin on plot, but a tad more story driven than a majority of the other movies. Plus, the music is just great. I saw the FUNi/Pioneer dub of this movie when I was a complete DBZ dubbie. To me, Faulconer's music "was" DragonBall; there was no one better to handle the series' music. Then, I saw movie 1 and was exposed to Shunsuke Kikuchi's fantastic musical score for the film. Even as a Faulconer fanboy, I was amazed by it. I even caught myself humming certain music pieces from time to time, somthing that I have never done with the dub music. I will always have movie 1 to thanks for showing me that there was more to DBZ than Faulconer's sub-par tracks. (It also helped that movie 1 has probably the best musical score of any DBZ film, so that was lucky for me.)

DBZ Movie 9: The Bojack movie will always be one of my favorites, since not only was it my first exposure to the original Japanese version, but it also resparked my interest in the series after I had "grown up" from cartoons. Plus, Gohan was my favorite character at the time, so that was just another cherry on the top of that long-awaited cake. It's a great little gem of a movie.

DBZ Movie 11: I'm not ashamed to admit it; Bio-Broli is one of my favorite DragonBall films. There's so many good things about it, and I could never figure out why the fanbase hated it so much.
- Kuririn and #18 get some much needed/deserved spotlight, even if the movie focuses on mostly Goten and Trunks.
- The original music is awesome, almost beating movie 1's score as my favorite.
- The air fight scenes are greatly choreographed, with great animation and on-model characters throughout.
- Goku, Gohan, Piccolo, and Vegeta thankfully stay out and give some of the minor characters time to shine.

DBZ Movie 12: I'm not even going to waste my time with this one. Y'all know why it's great.
