Funny Thought About the Live-Action Movie!

Post by Steven Perry » Tue Apr 29, 2008 9:22 am

Okay, so this thread isn't much and won't last very long... but y'know how Stan Lee seems to always make cameos in the Marvel movies (like Spider-Man, where he repeatedly pulls innocent bystanders away from the debris and crap from Spidey's battles, and in Fantastic Four where he's the mail man)? Well, I was laughing my ass of today at the thought of Akira Toriyama making a cameo in the upcoming Live-Action movie... for example, two of the main characters are having a discussion in the High-School, and Akira Toriyama walks past as a janitor in the background, sweeping the floor as he goes along, and wearing his cap! Oh man, that cracks me up...

Or maybe he's a random pedestrian dude (amongst the massive crowd) running for his life in the battle against Goku and Piccolo. THAT would be awesome. :P I'd go and watch the movie just for that.

I don't know if this has been discussed before, or if it has been officially confirmed, but I just thought I'd get my ideas out there.

Well, Toriyama makes appearances in the manga all the time! So if the live-action movie follows the same logic and trend...

Tori-Robo will indeed be present.

That would be so awesome! :)

In the "What I'm Up to Nowadays" comic by Toriyama in Shenlong Times #2, he says that he dislikes being recognized in public and therefore doesn't like to have his picture printed in magazines. So I'm not sure he'd go for being in a movie, even as a cameo. Then again, that comic was drawn twelve years ago, so his views on things like that might have changed.

The thing that's always struck me about Toriyama, from the pictures and the little footage I've seen of him, is that he looks like the most ordinary guy in the world. So it wouldn't be very hard to hide him in a crowd. Although it'd be great if he had a gas-mask on; that way it'd be easy to pick him out, but since his face is hidden he wouldn't have to worry about being recognized in public anymore than he is now (actually, I wonder if that's why he drew himself with a gas-mask to begin with-to avoid drawing a caricature of his actual face).

That would be more amazing than even just a cameo. I'd love to see a cameo, but with the gas mask? Super classic, especially for longtime fans who would actually get the joke!

Well, we know this DragonBall world does have everyday robots, and apparently even Grandpa Gohan has one (At least I'm pretty sure that's him and Goku's house. The old-timey-ness of the place strongly suggests it). That one doesn't seem to resemble the Tori-Robo in particular, but it's always possible to see it elsewhere.

But a cameo from Toriyama himself? Nah, not likely.

Hate to rain on your parade but I am 99% sure that isn't Randall Duk Kim (the guy who plays Gohan)

But anyway, I think it would be more likely that Chris Sabat shows up in the movie than anyone else.

I didn't say that was Grandpa Gohan, I just said it was probably his house. :)

Actually there is a video somewhere on youtube where Sabat says he's not down with the movie and, apparently Sean Schemmel said the same thing to dragonballmovieblog.net.

Can't say I blame em there...

Anyways, Toriyama making a cameo would give me a second reason to watch the movie. (The first reason being my urge to "MST3K" the sucker.) I seriously doubt it'll happen, though. Along with his unwillingness to be recognized, Toriyama is a smart man. I'm quite sure he'd want to stay as far away from this thing as possible.

Well if he does not make a cameo, then I hope they do make a mention of him in the film somehow... maybe a photo on a wall in the background, or his name in a newspaper or something... :)

He deserves it!

I'm sure they'll atleast have him in the credits. "Adapted from the original story by Akira Toriyama". Something like that.

Interesting. I thought those two would be down for the film. It's not like it will do as much damage to the franchises reputation as their dub work did.

I would love to see Toriyama-sama in the movie, but I doubt he'll appear. It would be wise to say that he will be at the world premier, wherever that is.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Maybe they don't like it because they're not in it? :P

Wow, talk about crotch shots. Really, you're making Japanese version fans who accept the dub community and dub fans who accept the Japanese version's fans look bad.

As for the topic at hand, the gas mask is pretty much the only way to go. It'd be funny if Grandpa Gohan had been a bug exterminator so something and used one of those.

Those subtitles are really rad, they almost parrelel the Yugioh bootlegs I own which refer to Mokuba as "Wooden Horse".
