Did Goku and Krillin ever learn that Jackie Chun was Master Roshi?

Discussion, generally of an in-universe nature, regarding any aspect of the franchise (including movies, spin-offs, etc.) such as: techniques, character relationships, internal back-history, its universe, and more.

Did Goku and Krillin ever learn that Jackie Chun was Master Roshi?

I don’t think this has ever been addressed in the series, but what are your theories? Would Roshi have told them the truth one day probably after they were grown, or would he want them to remember the mysterious Jackie Chun as a motivator for the rest of their lives?

Heh, the "Atsumare Goku World" special had him talk about that. So in Z Anime universe it seems like he learned some day.

I always like the idea that nobody ever found out (except the ones that did like Nam). Vegeta hears that Goku never defeated this Jackie Chun fellow and vows to hunt him down for a worthy challenge.

It of course doesn't matter too much, the key lesson of Jackie Chun having been learnt by both students, and Roshi realising that Goku and Krillin would never end up being too full of themselves. But it is fun to think about...

I don't think either Krillin or Goku do actually spar with Roshi on any occasion, so they wouldn't be able to compare the moves of the two, I think. Although JC's bulk up for max power Kamehameha is so similar to Roshi's that it could be a clue... Any way, if either Goku or Krillin do realize it later in their lives, I guess both of them would at least chuckle a bit. I imagine Roshi was chuckling by himself a bit too, as he was quite proud of his trick, although he was more proud of his students.

Then Roshi dresses up as Jackie Chun again and beats Vegeta with the Mafuba

I always wish Roshi would teach his techniques to Krillin. The Lightning attack he uses is absolutely amazing and could work well against stronger opponents along with the mafuba. It would add variety to Krillin's skill set and foreshadow him becoming the Turtle Master at some point in the future.

Krillin's lived with him forever so I assume at some point he found out, but Goku spent very little time with him following the 22nd Tenkaichi, so chances are he never thought about it due to him finding far strong opponents.

I mean Oozaru goku broke out of the electic attack so it's probably like Chaozu's TK where it doesn't work on stronger opponents.
I think it was only ever used again in the Preecho anime filler and even then he said it couldn't defeat them only hold them, making him vulnerable to attack. It'd be useless against 2 opponents.

But yeah Kuririn learning everything just to be the new turtle master would be cool.

Yeah the main thing is that Krillin's story has always been as an earthling and also his journey as a martial artist. It would be the perfect tonal send off to his character if he was the Turtle Master.

It's not like Master Roshi did a good job concealing it. It works on kids, but he had to pull a favor with Nam to throw Yamcha off the scent. Plus Tenshinhan knew around the time they fought. If the Dragon Team ever start talking about the "good old days" at one point, which they most likely did in the little downtime they got together between sagas and movies, it would have come out.
